A (kinda) Serious Talk about Grandfest. 

This is one of those splatfests where i'm ABSOLUTELY TORN on which side to choose!! i don't care as much that my team will lose, more so that whatever team wins, will be the most ideal outcome for the series. i want to see Splatoon evolve!! As long as there will be brushes for me to slap other cephalopods with, i'll always continue to play :P (P.S. Can't wait to see that slide show bro :P) (P.P.S. Tricolor Hagglefish sure waaass a stage... i guess xD )

This could affect Splatoon four it’s not in the devs hands it’s in the players we all must choose wisely

Overall, I think the objectively best team IS future because it is such a great and more straight forward direction for the game. Going back to the past in some way would be difficult for a more modern aesthetic and the implications of new stuff they added overtime. Present, as you said, Nintendo probably don't have a vison for, and is honestly such a lame outcome if it wins 😭 As a team order stan, we WILL take it back the 2nd time with future!

I may choose present, but I really don't care who wins, any outcome has potential! Idk this franchise is awesome sauce, I cant wait to see what Splatoon's future will hold!

If I remember well, they stated that the primary story of Splatoon ended with Splatoon 3, so probably, whoever wins will be a complete change in the story, maybe a new story line depending on who wins is in a point in a timeline, idk. Also most probably it just influence the aesthetic and moral conflict, not a complete change on the experience

I personally am going team present but not cuz is what i wanna see in the next game but due to well the question for the splatfest. The past has hurt me way to much and the future scares me I do wish you the best of luck on team future

Hey yall! Hope everyone's having a great day! Are you guys excited for Grand Festival?? Also I've been messing with my microphone to make it sound clearer in my videos, it might sound bad or good in some videos, so just bear with me while I work on it!

If we get a game during the great turf war I could see two story modes for each inklings and octolings like the pvz games, I could also see the online matches having inklings fight octolings in the war with each side having different specials which counter the other side, you would obviously be able to switch sides in the lobby

For the Grand Run, I'm predicting Splatsville being the final Big Run stage. Each Big Run got the salmonids closer the Splatsville and the Grand Festival doesn't take place in Splatsville.

I think the devs will do Splatoon 4 justice (lore wise) regardless of the outcome of this Grandfest. I also don't think they have a bias for a specific team either. I'm sure they have some very neat ideas and concepts for the Past, Present and Future. In terms of the question, the present is what's most important to me while the future is a close second. You can't change the past but you can learn from it, and while looking forward to the future is important, the choices you make during the present is what mostly shape it. With that being said, I'm leaning Team Present but still haven't ruled out going Team Future since the hypothetical lore and overall setting of the latter is admittedly harder to predict which does intrigue me.

Splatoon 3 is the last game with the squidbeak splatoon so I think that present would be in the current era but a new story, cast and whatnot

I think it would be sick if we got a Tri-color big run, where each wave is one of the bosses in a different plaza, with the fourth king salmonid making its debut as the Grandfest Plaza, making the towers their hideouts. I mean, we already have some ideas of how this could work. -Splatsville: Horrorboros - There's already pathing for it thanks to the Floats ; ) - Inkoplous Plaza: Cohozuna - High ground available, most suitable plaza for the boss. - Inkopolus Square: Megalodontia- It's big enough for Megalodontia, but wouldnt really work for the other two bosses.

It’s hard to say exactly how the Final Fest winner might affect Splatoon 4 because there’s only 2 examples to go off of. The first Final Fest technically influenced the story of the next game, but only in the most minimal way. They could have just swapped Callie and Marie and it wouldn’t actually affect the plot, it was basically just a cosmetic difference. On the other hand, I don’t feel like the second Final Fest influenced the story of Splatoon 3 very much; Return of the Mammalians doesn’t particularly embody Chaos. I think the way Chaos influenced Splatoon 3 the most was just in the general aesthetic of the new area, with The Splatlands being in the unsettled, apocalyptic desert and Splatsville being this garish, downtown melting pot. I feel like this third Final Fest is more similar to the second Final Fest, since Past, Present and Future are broad concepts like Chaos and Order rather than specific characters like Callie and Marie, so the winner of this Final Fest will probably have a more broad and vague influence on the direction of Splatoon 4. But 2 datapoints isn’t really enough to establish a pattern, so the winner could really affect anything from story to setting or even gameplay. Personally, I think I’m going to pick Team Present because I like how Splatoon is right now. With Team Past, I don’t really want a story focused on the past like the Great Turf War or even the humans, because I prefer those things as the ancient history of the world of Splatoon, rather than something we experience ourselves and spoiling the mystique. I also don’t think it would make for a very fun game. I definitely don’t want the devs to return to past Splatoon game design, because I think the design of Splatoon has only gotten better over time. I would kind of like to return to past areas like Inkopolis Square and Plaza, but we already got that from the Splatoon 3 DLC, and I doubt the devs want to retread old ground. With Team Future, I don’t really want the devs to introduce a new area already because I feel like there’s still plenty to explore with existing areas like the Splatlands or Inkopolis or even the Deepsea Metro. I also don’t want them to go in a whole new direction with Splatoon’s game design because I feel like Splatoon is already a very unique and innovative game, and I would prefer for them to expand upon and rework what we already have. But in terms of the story, we’ve had 3 campaigns now in the traditional Splatoon style, so I would definitely like them to go in a new direction with that. So all in all, Team Past and Team Future both have something good to offer, but my general feeling is that Splatoon is already in a really good spot, and I just want them to keep refining it to make it the best it can be. My ideal Splatoon 4 is basically just Splatoon 3 with certain specials and weapons and mechanics removed or replaced, and I think Team Present gives the best shot at that. And finally, my genuine answer to the question is also Team Present. The Past and The Future don’t matter as much to me because they can never actually be experienced. Once you reach the future, it becomes the present, and the past is merely what used to be the present. Even if you learn from the past, it doesn’t matter unless you put what you learned into action in the present, and likewise, you’ll never reach the future you want unless you work towards it in the present.

As Mr. Grizz said after he lost against Neo Agent 3 : "The times have changed. The world can never be as it was. Moving forward... is the future." I'm team Future too ! I think it'd be the best choice thematically after the story of the first 3 games (besides, we already got plenty of lore for what happened in the past and Inklings and Octolings living together in peace again is the best thing that could have happened in the present, it'd be hard to top that). And the 2nd place team will probably still be made into a DLC just like team Order with Side Order (maybe the 3rd place team as well, why not ?).

All 3 options are seriously amazing picks, and probably for me that makes it the best splatfest theme to date. The past is something to look towards when learning as it's best to learn from someone elses mistake so you don't make it yourself, like eating a wrong mushroom and dying, but they could also take the theme of "Past" and twist it to mean "Retro" as well which could get a retrowave or vaporwave aesthetic, perhaps the story mode can be going over the great turf war and could take place by reading a book instead of falling down a squidhole. The present is where we all live, the easiest place to get inspiration from with new maps, and it could further be a commentary on the state of the world, like how splatoon 3 had a big focus on hope especially after the pandemic, could further the splatlands as well since it's not as big as inkopolis, maybe even take us to a new area in inkadia too. The future both hopeful and bleak, but it's entirely unwritten. Perhaps the aesthetic could be of a futuristic utopia built upon the peaceful coexistance of all races on the surface, with no octarians living underground and perhaps the story mode could be a pseudo city builder mixed with an exploration game where it expands overtime, especially given splatoons great exploration tools, or it could be a dystopia like you suggested with a cyberpunk aesthetic, the world's in chaos as the megacorporations rule over
