I got a subscriber request for how to tie off string after wrapping it around for storage. As a thank you, I made him a leather sheath for his draw knife. Check it out here.

Make a loop, three twists and throw it over the rope coil, pull tight to secure it. Been doing it that way for 40 years.

I like it. Especially the way you can use line still on a spool without cutting it.

👍🏻 Nice .. i have a roll of garden twine which is very uncooperative when it comes to knots, and likes to unwind itself out of spite - this may be just what I'm looking for!

That's actually a pretty good way to test something's durability; I'll have to keep the dryer in mind for that from now on

I love this knot! I've always had a problem how to finish a spool of rope so it doesn't untie itself after some time. Thank you kindly!

💡 So after a bit of experimentation, i discovered a method that is even better suited to my spool of garden twine: instead of doubling back over your thumb as you did .. i grabbed that bight and twisted it into a loop that catches the working end's next and final turn around the spool. So it's like half a sheep shank, where the twisted bight behaves like the half hitch on one end of a sheep shank. Works like charm - thanks for the inspiration!

That's genius. It's hard enough to teach someone a knot in person, but you were able to do it through only text. My hat off to you. I'll have to share that on and give you credit!

@@First_Class_Amateur Just to be clear .. the loop might need an extra twist depending on the nature of the cordage. Also, when you pass the working end through the loop, it should be as a bight (like a sheep shank) so as to provide for quick release.

Fantastic! I've always been bothered by the instability of "just tuck the loose end". This is a great solution, especially the Cow Hitch version. BTW -- I love my Piranhas 😁

Slingstone seems to be similar but opposite of the cat's paw. But only one turn is necessary. Cool!… after another look and some testing it’s the same as a cat paw with one full twist.

Great video and explanation! How did you wind the string around your tube/bottle like that? I've "figure 8'd" it around a stick or pipe, but your method looks way more pleasing, uniform and functional. Thank you!

I like that little bottle setup you have I've done a similar setup with the paracord down inside and a hole in the lid and you just pull the cord out the hole. What did the little bottle start it's life as, if you recall? It's the perfect size.

It looks like a 2L preform or "test tube" -- a 2L bottle before it is expanded to full size.

I do 3 or 4 half hitches. then tuck the tag end. If you do one half hitch you can untuck the end and take off as much ass you need without undoing the knot and just retuck the end. For long lengths I roll up my cord and tie off like you would a climbing rope.

Question for you Brent. What are the differences in the fishbone and the piranha? I really like your tube with fishbones and cords, but I already have a few piranha. Will the piranha fit into one of those tubes that you sell the fishbones in? Thank you for your time.

Could this also work as a way to connect a prusik attached to a Ridgeline to a tarp that is being set up?
