Hey everyone. This is our very first gear review video. We were really excited to test out the brand new TRU-FIRE ThruFire. After waiting for a month to get one in hand, we spent a couple of days messing around with it. Enjoy the video and it we hope it helps you make a decision in the future.

Concur with your assessment of the thrufire release. Took me several sessions shooting it and adjusting it to get comfortable with it. One thing on safety if you have to let down it's a must you need to remove your finger from any chance of contact with the trigger.

Glad I found you as I was looking for what people thought of this release since I have been interested in possibly buying one. I usually wait for enough time to see what are the pros and cons are on most every new produce. As usual, I'm glad I have waited. I will continue to watch to see what (if any) improvements have been made. The real deal breaker with me is that the setting for trigger exposure do not remain constant. I suspect this flaw alone will result in many not making the purchase of an otherwise great idea. Thanks for a excellent review.

Robert, we are glad we can help you make an informed decision. I was a little disappointed about that issue. I did tightened it up a little bit, or increased the poundage, and it appears to hold. Another viewer commented that a set screw would be beneficial. I tend to agree.

@@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions Are you still using this release or have you gone to a different one? I'm really interested in the thrufire but I'm hesitant after hearing the issue you're having. Was the trigger issue fixed completely by upping the poundage? Or do you still have to adjust after a certain number of arrows? Thanks for the video by the way.

@Pierce Miller I shot the Thrufire for several 3D shoots during the summer, but by time fall started approaching I switched back to my Tru-Fire Hardcore release. More due to my personal preference for a command style release for hunting. After tightening the poundage I did not experience the slippage. Another viewer said he had luck with Blue Loctite on the screw. While this will likely work, do so at your own risk, as it could void any warranties. I still have the release and may bring it back out during the off season.

A very good review of this release I to found that the screw for the spring tension would back out the more I shot this release my fix was to use med lock tight or replace with a longer screw(at the end of thread when at it lighter setting) or lighter spring as you wouldn't have to back the screw out as far. It greatly helped me get rid target anticipation

Just acquired one, no problem locating the d-loop. Locking was difficult so I reversed the opening so it’s facing out. I’m using the lightest settings with the trigger exposed. Haven’t used a wrist release for years getting use to the concept again. Having a leather strap to pull to full draw felt uncomfortable but secure. The release has a novelty factor, unfortunately with novelties it doesn’t last.The finger area is to small for me if I use the back of my finger. If you don’t use the right part of your finger, you will struggle to release. As I said a novelty but not a good design. After two day shooting and one incident hitting my face I’ve sent it back. Of course is only my experience.

Yes, from some of the comments I’ve seen some other people have been having an issue with a premature release. My experience with it I did not, except for when I didn’t lock it correctly. The concept is interesting, and while I did have a positive experience with the release, I still use my index style release for hunting. Some habits are hard to break. I could see having larger fingers being an issue with the release giving the Shepard’s hook in the trigger mechanism. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Hope it helps other people in their decisions.

I shot in the early 3- D era. Back tension was the craze for tournaments. A few premature releases that hit my face hike and uppercut from Mike Tyson .learn me to do some practice with handle and string release. Is this a better release. Yes and no. There is one that I have designed that is better, can improve your arrow groups tremendously. Any archery Shoup interested in using my Idea. Let me know. It stops feared target panic. It gives the same effect as back tension,but only better. You are totally in control of the back tension. I killed my first Pope and Young buck using this designed .

Luckily for us in Ohio we can hunt up until the first week of February. We are out in the late season, just not as frequent as we are waiting on the right weather patterns. We do have a couple hunts in this time frame on our channel from last year and this year, and have a few more hunts planned for January into February.

@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions 2 года назад
Yes it’s a different style of release. You may need to shorten your draw length just a little maybe a 1/2 inch. Since you are pulling through the shot, if left at your “normal” draw length you may feel too outstretched through the shot sequence. Some recommend cable stops over limb stops with a tension release, but I think that really is up to preference. Try Blind bale shooting to help with target panic as well. You’ll want to be close to your target with a more than adequate backstop. Come to full draw with an arrow of course, and aim at the target. It’s not necessary to aim at a specific point just the target in general. Once you’re confident the arrow will hit the target, close your eyes and slow and deliberately work through your shot sequence until release. This allows you to not hyper focus on your pin and the target. Which is where a lot of target panic comes from. Additionally it allows you to focus on the feel of the release, the mechanics, and nuances. Once again I stress make sure you are close to the target 4-6 feet and you have a sufficient backstop in the event you miss. Once you have mastered or reset your release start working on sighted shooting from close range. Then start working yourself back until you get back to your effective range and maybe even beyond for target shooting.

Good review I too purchased this release. I have a couple times where the lock mechanism not closed all the way and popped me right in the nose. It’s going to take a little to get use to, hopefully with time and practice I will get it down.

Yeah, nothing is more embarrassing when your trying to show off your new release to your buddies, and you can’t get it to lock into the loop. Not that I would know or anything. 😉 Who am I kidding, it happened to me several times until I worked with it a little more. Stay persistent and constantly tinker with it until it fits you. It really is fun to shoot with. I shot a couple of 3-D’s with it, and did fairly well.

Bob, thanks for the question. Yeah punching yourself in the face during a draw is no buéno. I had a Trufire Hardcore Revolution Four finger release that did that. Got it fixed, but still a little gun shy during the draw. 🤣 On my issue there was nothing mechanically wrong with the release, it solely was on me not closing it all the way. You will feel it lock when push the lock mechanism in place. I simply short stroked it. Mine did not release mid draw, mine released with slight pressure. I reattached the release to the string and made sure it fully locked and had no problem since.

Great review on the release! A friend taught me proper back tension a few years ago to cure target panic, and it was the best thing that ever happened for my shooting. I'm looking for a new release because I can really feel the travel in my current one and a couple others I was able to try recently, regardless of how much I'm able to adjust them down. I'm hoping this might be the answer to that?

Really like the concept a lot. One thing that bothers me is time it takes after your draw and set to get the finger into position. And why is the open not facing away from your face? It seems it would be easier access for the index finger ?
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions 3 года назад
Tim, That is a good question. My answer is the awkward string position when I anchor. That arch is a pretty significant size, had to be to accommodate gloved fingers. If I were to anchor with opening out, it really adds a significant amount of of pressure on the string and forces it away from my face and my anchor.

@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions 2 года назад
I hate to give this answer, but I think that really depends on the shooter. For me, they were barely noticeable since I was using the meatier part of my finger to contact the trigger. If someone is a little more sensitive to the sensation, they may take a little more “break-in” before it goes unnoticed.

I like the idea behind it, but I'm concerned it will change my anchor point due to the amount of distance created by the c shaped cut out for the index finger. Did you notice a change in you anchor point?
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions

Steven, thanks for the question. I did not notice a change in anchor. The distance from string hook to the trigger, is comparable to other Tru-Fire releases, such as the Hardcore.

@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions 3 года назад
@Sbuckle name. I would say as long as you can use an index wrist strap release you could use this release. You may need to lengthen the strap on the release to accommodate. This may, and I stress may, cause a need to shorten your draw length to keep a comfortable anchor. In my opinion the distance from the d-loop capture to the trigger is a little longer than a traditional index release like a Tru-Fire Hardcore.

I just ordered one and it seems to be built really well. I just have a question. When you are pushing the locking mechanism in place, does the spring inside get really loud? Like as your pushing it forward, does it make a "pinging" noise, or did I get a defective one?

Jonathan, thanks for the question. I must say that after tinkering with the release to get it perfect for me, I really like it. We are going to put out an update video on the release. I put up a sub 3” 3 arrow group at 100 yards using it. I did dial up the tension a bit more as I got used to it. If you are an index style release shooter, I wouldn’t buy one a week before a hunt or competition and expect perfection. There is a little bit of a learning curve to this style of shooting. It still gets a thumbs up from me.

@@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions I find on my xpedition with limb stops and 80% let off, that method works great. Not so much on my older hoyt vipertec with cable stops and 65% let off. I may pick up a second thru fire and set it up specifically for the hoyt.
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions 3 года назад
My understanding is at a minimum you will want to have it set slightly heavier than your holding weight at full draw. While I’ve shot it with both limb and cable stops I haven’t really developed a preference for one or the other. Listening to a few tournament archers, Paige Pearce specifically, she likes the cable stop for a tension style shot. In her opinion the cable stop allows her to hold on target easier during the shot execution. In contrast the limb stop tends to pull off target easier during the shot execution.

When I pull back to draw sometimes it just releases the arrow and my finger is no where near the trigger and it’s fully locked in so do you have any idea how to fix that and what the problem is?
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions
@KountryfriedOutdoorProductions 3 года назад
Nate, Try decreasing the sensitivity (make it less sensitive). Sometimes when either the trigger travel is to low or the sensitivity is too light, the trigger mechanism does not hold well under pressure. Then make a string trainer that you can use to test your work. I used a small piece of 3/4” pvc pipe, a little bit longer than my hand is wide, a length of paracord threaded through the pipe , and then tied into a loop. The pvc pipe acts like a bow grip and the paracord the bow string. The goal is to have the string trainer the same length as your draw length or a little shorter, you may need to adjust the paracord loop several times until you get it perfect. Once the trainer is good to go, practice with the release under pressure without activating the trigger, pull hard on it to ensure that it is staying latched. If you get consistent performance move onto your bow. I did the same for a TruFire hardcore revolution that was prematurely firing. I didn’t want to run the risk of launching another arrow into the unknown, or dry firing my bow, to test after I fixed it. I even got help from a friend of mine and he pulled on the pvc handle while I pulled on the release, without activating the trigger. It worked great.
