Hey JP! Just watched this and it was like listening to my uncle Gates tell the tale... He spent countless nights with Tom at the Maple Leaf in Timmins and at Tom's property on the pond near Georgetown. Drinking, talking, crying, writing songs. He calls those "the good old days". Tom did burn through a lot of cigarettes, and a lot of people, over the course of his career. His inner demons probably kept him up at night and the booze numbed his pain. I thank you for telling this heartfelt story, which validates a lot of what my uncle has told us over the years. The stuff of legends! They had a falling out, which happened, ironically, during one of those many multi-night drinking binges, that was meant to be devoted to songwriting, where Tom refused to go to bed, even when everyone else was exhausted. Then came the namecalling, the accusations, the blaming, the shaming... In the end, it was all too much. But not my story to tell. Thanks for telling yours! Marc

Listening to melody in the ending song I immediately was reminded of another song. Then it came to me. I think its called "all hell for a basement " by big sugar. Somebody copy someone here.

Good morning, I just watched your complete Episode 28 and was very touched by your courage to tell this story. I am the nephew of Gates. You helped me understand so much about my uncle and the friend he was to Tom! Thank you for having the courage to describe with emotion , respect and honesty. This will help countless people with their personal healing process! Daniel

I'd read both of S-Tom's autobiographies several years ago. Now it is so interesting to see your knowledge of him which compliments that, and more.

What a fun time it is listening to the stories from behind the scenes, I've had my 15 minutes of fame in a local bar band for a couple of years, and so much of what musician's go through the audience never knows, these stories are like gold to us musician's, because they jog our own memories, thanks a bunch JP.😊👍

Btw, in the photo of Tom that's with his Wikipedia article, you can see JP in the background, on guitar - in 2002, apparently.

JP you should definitely consider putting Life in Music into a book 📖. Like a popular song that everyday people can relate to Life in Music touches on so much on the human experience of so many people’s lives. I know you have really touched my soul...

After I lost my Rt. Leg in 2014 I went to N.S.REHAB in Halifax @ 2015 to get a Prosthetic Leg. While there I met another patient who was in a mobile { Electric } wheelchair. Large man, wore a Big Leather Cowboy Hat all the time. Told me HE had been T.Connors Road Manager , at one time. Tom was in the middle of a TOUR and had to let the Manager go so He phoned this Chap up and offered Him the JOB. He told me He lived down around Lunenburg & at one time played the smaller clubs @ Toronto. Cannot remember His name. Wondering if you knew Him J.P.? Cheers Brother.

@Jack Raymond - hi Jack, what I meant was what was your experience with JP's learning series? Are you a beginner, intermediate or more advanced player? Did you find the series a good match for your skill level? (I'd say I am above a beginner to maybe a lower level intermediate player). Thanks so much for your input - cheers

I wouldnt want to be hounded like Tom ,couldnt imagine never being ever to go anywhere without being recognised ,just not worth it to me ,you I think would be more respected and could sit down at a resturant without being hounded man it would drive me nuts ofcourse I would respect that person may say hi but that would be it,I have met many celebrties never ask for a autograph always respect thier privacy because they are just like you and me they just have a major talent ,but I did party with a metal band in Germany it was fun but because I treated them with respect
