There is always this one shot, with the Trad vanes, that deviates! Atleast for me! Let me know your experience, below😊

I'm trying to get my hunting setup put together. So far a little trial and error. If you don't have complete confidence in your setup don't use it to hunt. Great advice Peter.

I really enjoy all your videos, I shoot mostly shtraight off the shelf and have found vanes to always have a slight kick. I have used the bump just to try it out, but like just smooth shelf and solid fletchings. Thank you for the comment about not hunting with a set-up you are not confident in. Hope more people take that advice.

Agree completely Pete. I have tuned with vanes extensively & get close to perfect flight. However when the broadhead practice starts I’ll get one shot that’s just off a bit. That little bit is a wounded animal & I won’t take that chance. IMO like you show the vanes are great for practice but the feathers are more forgiving of a mistake.

I tried the trad vanes and I noticed they shot slightly high compared to my feather fletched arrows so I raised the nocking point to try and get more clearance. My worry was the stiffness of the trad vanes would change in different temperatures and weather. I took both hunting in France but didn't have the confidence in them to use them even in the wet. Great video as always.👍
@peterjuulsgaard

We are in the same boat! And They shoots higher, because of the lack in parachute effect!👍

Your hand was pulled through the shot perfect. Blocked flight of the arrow from me. You have to break those vanes in they will soften especially when it warm out.
@peterjuulsgaard

Yeah but most the time it aint warm here. I can make it work though

It is possible that the initial and exit deviation of the arrow from the bow, which is produced by having the plastic feather hit in the bow window, but that the arrow finds rapid stabilization due to the high fel FOC effect.

Great video Peter!!! I shoot trade vaneson my Bob Lee Hardcore and they fly great even off the shelf. It can be critical at times with the release maybe a little tuning slight adjustment to the bow could help. Thanks for sharing!!!!!
@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 4 года назад
You say it your self! Critical with the release. Bareshaft is flying straight, broadheads too. So adjustments is out of the question. But if these vanes are sensitive to human errors, I’ll not use them hunting, because I know, that I’ll make errors under pressure. That’s why I chose as I do. Thanks for watching my friend🏹👍

Absolutely right on all points. According to what I've read. It's not the length of the fletching it's the height that stabilizes the arrow. I think this is so. I've also developed a preference for the rounded type fletching over the traditional shield shaped fletching. They stabilize the arrow just as well and tend to fly quieter. I still shoot wood with a heavy broad head. You still cant beat a shield fletching in barred turkey feathers for pretty though.

I only use feathers...rain or shine...if you setup is well tuned a wet fletch will have little effect. If an archer is worried about wet fletchings then they can apply a water-proofing like camp-dry or even hair spray.
@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 4 года назад
Exactly! The parachute effect is still there, even if They are a little wet

Self-confidence is the key, I think💪if you would trust in your setup with vanes, like some hunters in the states I read about in the Tradbow-Magazin, maybe... But your right, in the name of a clean, fast killing take whatever YOU are confident with Take care and stay well🙏
@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 4 года назад
Thanks! You too. The thing is: Even though I can group them easily with the others again and again, I still have this one shot with them once in a while, which are flying a little funny, ore sounding funny when leaving the bow, or even making a little mark on the riser. Since I’m no machine, its probably human errors! But that doesent help me much, cause I know I’m gonna make them.

I just heard about these and I was thinking....I would try them because I have been caught in the rain Elk hunting and if these work having one in the quiver might be a good idea. Sounds like they do not have them perfected. Maybe I will try goose feathers. I have always heard they are good in the rain.
@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 3 года назад
They work best if they are shot on an elevated rest, or a build up bump in the riser. Atleast in my experience.

1 minute ago Can you cut slits with scissors on the plastic vanes so they can compress better
@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 2 месяца назад
I dont know if that will help. These are Trad vanes, which are softer than original ones. If you slice them, maybe they’ll be more noisy. IDK

I haven’t tried the Trad Vanes, I don’t hunt either. I do love to watch my feather fletched arrows fly to the target, when my set up is well tuned. I don’t think vanes would give me the same satisfaction.

Hej Peter! I have an other problem. I put on my light training bow two homemade cat whiskers made from synthetic wool. Suddenly my arrows (bare shaft) started to fly nock right as a sign of a too stiff spine. Thay didn't do it before. Does the cat whiskers slow the bow string so much that it has impact on the arrow flight? Is it different to tune your arrows before or after putting your silencers on the string? I don't have a chronogtaf to measure speed of the arrow before and after silencers. Any idea? Thanks for the great videos, Hälsningar Filip from Sweden
@peterjuulsgaard
@peterjuulsgaard 4 года назад
There is no doubt that the string silencers will slow your string down. You could experiment with the placement of the silencers. The closer They are to the tips/ends of the bow, the faster the string is. A good advice will always be to tune with all the gadgets on the bow. Even the quiver with the arrows in it, if you are using that. You can add 25-50 grain extra to the tip weight also, and you’ll probably be good. Thanks for watching

I also prefer a long bow, Peter. It might just be my imagination, but there is all the difference between a long bow and a short bow as there is between a pistol and a rifle. I will always prefer the rifle and the long bow for accuracy.
