Watch some locomotive movements as trains are prepared at Grosmont on the NYMR.
Early Access: ru-vid.com...

If you've ever visited the North Yorkshire Moors Railways you'll know that Grosmont is often a hive of activity with trains frequently arriving and departing. The preparation of each train and making sure each loco is where it needs to be is almost an art in itself and is what this video focuses on today.
We follow a busy period of action at Grosmont station that features the arrival of a train, a loco swap, coaling in the MPD and the departure of a special dining train, all in just over 10 minutes.
Thanks for watching 😃

You've advanced from models to the real thing! Great video mate.

If anything I've been involved with real railways longer than model railways, I just don't post videos of them as often 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

I was at the NYMR last week, and got the chance to ride behind the J27. I really enjoyed it since I’d seen the J27 in the sheds as a reserve engine many times but it hadn’t pulled any trains until last week.

It might be my favourite loco currently at the NYMR! Luckily it was out on duty every single day I was there so I got plenty of footage of it in action. Thanks for watching 😃

Nice work on the video!! Now, what all coaches make up a dining train? It’d be cool to run one on a layout, but it seems wrong to assume it’s just dining cars and not much else…

I think it's an Observation car on the front then a mix of Pullman coaches and Mk1s. I would imagine the Pullman's are first class and possibly one of the Mk1s is used as a Kitchen car too - hence why there's a need for the Generator car on the rear of the train. Thanks for watching 👍

I've never done the dining experience myself (they don't let people like me sit in the fancy seats 😅) but the NYMR is certainly a fantastic railway to visit regardless! Thanks for watching 👍

No worries, this is actually one of my favourite videos I've ever made just because the sequence does feel so complete. It won't be as popular as my other videos since people prefer to see layout updates but I enjoyed making it and that's what matters 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

A very enjoyable video, with some excellent scenes. My favourite was of the two locos entering the tunnel together.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Месяц назад
Yes that was my favourite moment too! For any other railway you'd probably only see that at a steam gala... for the NYMR it was a Tuesday 😅 Thanks for watching 👍

@@ThatModelRailwayGuy The only place I've seen it regularly is on the GCR's double track mainline, especially when trains run simultaneously through Mountsorrel sidings.

I’m so confused how you got all these camera angles? Must be a whole camera team! 😄 brilliant video though!!
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Месяц назад
No more than two cameras at a time. The sequence was filmed over a few days from different positions as the same locos were rostered. If you look closely you can see some of the continuity changes between shots though 😉 Thanks for watching 👍

You must have done a lot of scurrying around to get all those different camera locations.

A fair bit! We had two cameras to capture things from multiple angles and filmed the sequence over a few different days too as they were running the same timetable. Was good fun piecing all the footage together in the edit! Thanks for watching 🤩

Excellent, That Model Railway Guy. Seems like quite a bit of complicated choreography to make it happen. Is the diesel actually banking the train there? Notice the rails all but buried near the platforms and shed in dirt, loose ballast, soot, ash and coal dust. Great job on this!
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Месяц назад
I don't think the diesel is doing any work as the J27 was easily capable of pulling similar length passenger trains on it's own earlier in the day. The Class 31 might be taking it's weight but generally I think it was there for the return journey to allow a speedy departure from Pickering which allows the Dining Train to fit in around the rest of the timetable. Thanks for watching 😃

A distinct lack of Hi-vis trackside 🤔
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Месяц назад
At most of the heritage railways I've visited the loco crews don't wear hi-vis, usually because if they're down on the track for some reason the other crew members would be aware of where they are. Certainly for coupling/uncoupling you need the Driver's permission before going in-between. Thanks for watching 😃

Is the cole that wet ?
@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Месяц назад
Yes they spray the coal with water to dampen down all the dust. Most railways don't have a coal tower like the NYMR do at Grosmont but many locos have the ability to wet the coal from a hose or even a built in system. Thanks for watching 🤩

@ThatModelRailwayGuy
@ThatModelRailwayGuy Месяц назад
@@pim1234 I can’t speak for all heritage railway but at the one where I volunteer we usually fill the tender/bunker with coal using a telehandler. The one time it was done by hand was for an Barclay which is such a small loco it has its bunker inside the cab 😅
