At the age of five, Saroo Brierley became separated from his family in India. He was eventually adopted but always wondered about his birth family. Twenty five years later, he used Google Earth to bring his childhood memories to life and found the coordinates to his past.

what happened to his brother breaks my heart. The guilt and die trying to find his younger brother is more amazing then this entire story. Indian brotherhood is amazing.

i am the same age as saroo, and i cant begin to imagine what he went thru at age 5 being lost....knowing that, alone, makes me cry. i feel so heavy in my chest thinking about it. thank God little Saroo survived that horrific ordeal....and his lovely australian parents who gave him love, education and safety. this story is one of the most wonderful, sad stories....

Sheru, “Lion,” that is where the name “Saroo,” comes from. He was only 5 years old and may have only been able to mispronounce his name Sheru as Saroo.

Wow that's crazy. He remembers the place vividly but can't understand a word from his real mother.

He was barely five years old, and it is very likely that he forgot the language of a child he learned from his mother. Also in India, it is more than certain that there must be hundreds of dialects and terrible variations. Open the mind to understand people!

Probably from the fear and shock that he remembers his surroundings so well. Franticlly searching for his family at that age would be traumatic. Fear wakes you up but it can shock your mind to forget some things too especially at 5 yrs old.
