As a Black Catholic and a gay man I am so glad that I am a Catholic, God's Universal Church. Even with the racism so deep in the fabric of the American Catholic church I have always felt at home and in awe of the the one people of God that includes all cultures. I recall once at a Mass of ordination when I was young that the cathedral was full of people of many different nationalities all come to celebrate and witness their sons being ordained and though most folks could not understand each other's languages when the our father was sung in Latin all the people-especially the elders-joined in prayer and I was praying hands raised with vietnamese and Indian and Mexican and Africans of many nations in the one prayer Yeshua left us. The power of that moment reverberates to this day. God bless our church and strengthen and grow us for the days ahead.
@@Cadolotsyes because we all have roles. Men are leaders and supposed to run the church, women are the nurtures and care for the church and it's people. God gave us these roles. Stopping blaming the catholic faith for the role God gave you to play in this world. It's not about what you want. Its what god wants from you.
I see more Mexican and Hispanic priest’s. Unlike regular pastors, Catholic priest’s go through tough discernment and years upon years of schooling. Not only that, but once a priest Days off are not really a thing. You work all day everyday and must travel to different places all the time. They really do sacrifice so much. It’s the most selfless job out there.
you cant really compare catholic priest to pastors . One is a direct succesor of the apostles and takes vows of celebacy obiedinece and poverty. The other has no required eduation or training other than filling the right tax forms.
@@cortezoanot all priests take vows of poverty and obedience. Your thinking of religious, such as friars and monks. Many of them are priests but many are not, and most priests are not part of religious orders. They do take vows of celibacy.

In regards to the sex abuse scandal, what nobody seems to understand is that evil is everywhere. 😢 Other denominations have about 10% of pastors involved in the same evil. It's not a Catholic Church problem as much as its an evil world problem. We only had 2%--which is horrific, and lower.
With the religious it is worse as they are betraying a trust in God, the church should be a sanctuary not a breeding ground , the filth mccarrick and the current filth rupnick show that this evil continues that we the laity are still paying for . For some real evil google weakland, squealing , the hierarchy has failed us in too many ways.
On top of that the USA public school system has higher rate of sex abuse by teachers than churches. But we still send the kids off there because it’s illegal not to.
Main stream always refers the Catholic Church when talking about sex scandal when the Catholic Church is at the lower bottom when comparing to other Christian denominations. Non if it is right just saying they focus on discreting the Catholic Church.
Polish-American Catholic here, I appreciate the kind words. Hope that one day the Great Schism ends and we can come into communion with one another again.
We have an Indian associate pastor. He explained that the salary of 1 Indian or African priest can pay for seminary of 5-6 priests back home. It's understandable why it's done.
most of the indian priests come from the syro malabar church which uses the east syriac rite and some of them had to go back for being too conservative.
Yes. Priest often come her from African countries or from Vietnam (to minister to Vietnamese American Catholics), the way long ago priests came to the US from Ireland.
What a beautiful church! At my local catholic church, they installed two new younger priests, and the sermons have been so much more relatable as a gen z. They're awesome!
“Installed” is the Church’ technical term for “assigned” ❗️Whatever though, new and young deacons and priests are what matter to ITS SURVIVAL❗️GOD BLESS US ALL🙏‼️
I need to remind myself to pray for more vocations. It's a beautiful thing that our church is growing, but with that , you definitely see the need for more priests. Thank you so so much to all of our clergy for all that they do for us!
The average size of a parish increased by 60% in this report yet in our city the 3 Catholic churches merged into one parish and the weekend masses dwindled from at least 10 down to 5. This trend is across the Midwest.
I think most of the increase comes from hispanic immigrants. In my church in Idaho, if you go to the English Mass there are few children and many elderly, go to the Spanish Mass and it's packed and full of children.
@RickW-HGWT they have very strong cultural ties. Some parents drop off kids to Mass and first Communion classes without entering the Church themselves. And they'll throw a first Communion party and invite all their family and friends. It's not perfect, since the culture pulls more than the belief sometimes, but it keeps them coming.
That is what I noticed here in USA Catholics. Some priests don’t even believe on science like what happened during covid. Some priest pretty vocal on vaccine that parishioners especially men walked out during the young priest homily. Good I was born and raised Catholic in my beloved country and found comfort on RU-vid where I attend my country daily Catholic mass. I still go to mass here but most often on RU-vid. 🙏❤️❤️❤️🙏
The reasons cited for the decline are WRONG. It's not complicated as His Excellency stated (i.e. decline in the priesthood). The faith was watered down, reverence was thrown out, and a firm and clear understanding of venial and mortal (and their repercussions) were thrown out the window. Hence, you have a priest shortage because you have a shortage of deep love for Jesus.
I feel like it's also society too that creates the lack of love in Jesus. Like if you even talk about church you're afraid to get ridiculed or made fun of. I am the music director at my church and in some cases I am afraid to tell people what my job is because I don't want people to judge me or think little of me.
Exactly. Traditional parishes are growing because people are drawn to the true Faith. This mega church exists because Novus Ordo parishes have shut down. My traditional parish has five full masses every Sunday.
I prefer my Traditional Latin Mass parish which only has about a thousand parishioners. We hold 24 masses per week and 6 masses on Sunday. Are we smaller than the megachurches? Yes, but we take the Christian faith seriously and reverently.
So many masses, and yet no cycle of services. What about Laudes or Nocturns or the hours? What about one Eucharist per alter per day and only receiving the Eucharist once per day which was the norm? This is one major reason I, as an Orthodox Christian, could never be Catholic. You churn out masses and lose the cycle of services/hours given to us by the pre-schism church.
@@JohnMaximovich-r8xA Catholic parish is not a monastery where you have the full cycle of liturgical hours. Many parishes, however, do pray Lauds and Vespers before Mass. Unlike orthodox churches, we offer Mass each day. One Mass a day on one altar is an orthodox liturgical discipline and not one of the 10 commandments. Due to the large numbers of Catholics who attend Sunday Mass, this would not work in a Latin Rite parish. Lastly, the orthodox parishes I know do not have the full monastic hours celebrated every day during the week. In fact, most of the churches are closed during the week, and only seem to be operational on Sunday morning.

I live in CT and my parish has had two priests assigned to it for weekend Masses for at least the last ten years. Even with our latest transfers, two priests left (both were transferred to the same church) and two new ones came in from separate parishes. We're lucky that we have the need, as in addition to "regular" parish activities, we also have a K-8 private school. This church celebrates Mass in the Novus Ordo tradition.
The answer is simple: traditional parishes = good seminaries = abundance of priests; modernist parishes = bad seminaries = few or no priests. Bishops have been lying to themselves, ramming the rotten fruits of Vatican II on the faithful for sixty years now. Very proud to be a traditional Catholic.
1 Corinthians 1: 10-17 Do not delineate nor divide the church. If there are differences present, acknowledge them and correct them if they are inaccurate or harmful when you see them. Do not boast about your holiness in a public forum. If there is a dispute, solve it internally.
Interesting and well done video! However, the priest shortage has been around for a looooong time, so this part of the story is not really anything new. Also, it would have been more interesting IMO if more talking with the priests had been included.

Which means, because your behavior during your service has been too low, because you have overestimated yourself, when God sees that your service will not completely remove your right to serve, you will no longer He will letserve, He will remove you from His sight, and from the house of God. 😪 ISN'T IT BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO SERVE? Don't you like to do bad things? Aren't you ALWAYS UNFAITHFUL? If so, there is an easy solution: You will be disqualified from serving. And God will have no personal interest in their punishment, because they have no value whatsoever in God's work. It is not only the end of their life of trust in God, but also the end of their own destiny, the revelation of their destiny, and when the servants serve insufficiently, they have to bear the consequences alone. If a servant is not able to serve until the end, or is deprived of their right to serve in the middle then they will be thrown among the unbelievers---and when they are thrown among the unbelievers they willto be treated like pets, like people without intelligence or reason. When I say it this way, you understand, yes? 🛑 That's how God takes care of the life and death of His chosen people and servants. Where are these servants going? Among people who do not believe, live and die with domestic animals. What great graces they enjoy this day, being permitted to come before God, and to come to God's house! This is amazing grace! 🙏 If God gives you an opportunity to serve, you will never have a hope of coming before God. In any case, even if you are a person who is a Buddhist and has attained fulfillment, you are usually a messenger in the spiritual world; you will never see God, or hear His voice, or hear His words, feel His love andblessing for you, and you will never be able to come face to face with Him. The only things before the Buddhists were simple tasks. They cannot know God, and simply follow and obey, while the servants gain so much in this phase of the work! First, they are able to come face to face with God, hear His voice, hear His words, and experience the graces and blessings He gives to people. Of course, they are able to enjoy the words and truths that God gives. They really gained a lot! So many! ☀️ So if, as a servant, you can't even make the right effort, will God keep you? He doesn't even ask too much of you! God cannot keep you; you are not doing what He rightly requires, you are not obeying your duty--and therefore, without a doubt, God will not keep you. Such is God's righteous disposition. God doesn't spoil you, but He doesn't discriminate against you either. Such are the PRINCIPLES of HOW GOD WORKS. GOD MOVES like this TOWARDS ALL PEOPLE and CREATIONS. When it comes to the spiritual world, if the various beings here have done something wrong, if they are not doing their job correctly, God also has corresponding heavenly laws and laws to deal with. them---this is certain. So in several thousand years of God's work of governance, some rulers who do evil were destroyed, some, today, are still imprisoned and punished. 😪 This is what every being in the spiritual world must face. When they do wrong or commit evil, they are punished--which is the same as God's approach to His chosen people and servants. And so, whether it is in the spiritual world or the material world, the principles of how God operates do not change. 🙏 Whether you see God's actions or not, their principles will not change. In sum, God has the same principles in His approach to all things and in His handling of all things. It is not changed. God will be kind to the unbelievers who live for them in every religion who do good and do not do evil, let them fulfill the duty in all things governed by God, and do what they should do . In the same way, among those who follow God, the people He has chosen, God does not discriminate against any person according to His principles. The vocation crisis within the Roman Catholic Church in the West is true because of so many factors. It is true that the pedophelia scandal has affected the rate of turn-ins among aspirants for being possibly labeled as one. (The hierarchy must cleanse its ranks of the few homosexuals preying on seminarians). Hedonism is another factor in today's materialistic world. Lastly, a strong Catholic background is important especially in a strong knowledge of the Faith from the Apostles. This video is not about any mega Church but about the Universal or Catholic Church, specific only to the Church of Rome.
This is what Jesus had in mind from all eternity. The Church is entering a new season of life and God’s will shall be done. We should be receptive to it
Catholic Church asks a lot of these men. They can easily go to a different denomination and live a much more normal life. God bless the hearts of these men
It’s how Christ lived as well as his disciples. He also asks a lot from married people if they are to follow him properly. Christ is a good parent so he has high standards for his children while helping them
John the Baptist said of Jesus "I must decrease, he must increase." This church seems similar to how the number of priests decreasing led to an increase in the size of this one Catholic church.
It’s great to see so many Catholics gathered together. However, coming from the Byzantine Rite where parishes tend to be smaller & a greater emphasis on community: when you have multiple Mass times on a Sunday you greatly harm the ability for a parish to cohere. A lot of our parishoners came from a more mega-church style Catholic Parish because after going for nearly a decade, not a single person said hi to not even once in that whole time frame. There is a risk in making parishes a sacramental pez machine when they get too big. Great to have a lot of people to have more Mass times, but it’s better to have many more smaller parishes with one Mass time where everyone knows & is accountable to eachother.
Yes! I just started attending a Byzantine Divine Liturgy and I love how small it is. I’m more focused because of the singing and the way it flows. And I love the iconostasis and the priest facing ad orientam! And Communion on the tongue!
Priesthood has always been attractive to Gays. My Grandmother told me once that when she was young in the 40s and 50s becoming a priest or monk was basically the only good option for a young gay man at that time. It isn’t something new from the last decades. Probably a lot of canonised men were gay themselves.
This really isn’t all that new or abnormal but maybe because I attend a Catholic mega church in Virginia. No matter how big or small the church is, we Catholics need to work on being super friendly to newcomers. I feel like I’m invisible whenever I go to church, whether it’s my own or another parish. When I step inside a nondenominational church, I get scooped up in the first five minutes: “Welcome! What’s your name? Let me buy you breakfast, join our Bible study.” Until they find out I’m Catholic and NOT converting,
@@janedoe41276 For social purposes, really. Occasionally I’ll be invited by people or they have different events like conferences. As a single woman who has aged out of Catholic young adult groups, it’s also hard for me to meet members of the opposite sex so sometimes I need to branch out.
CBS, I suggest you visit traditional Catholic parishes served by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) or the Institute of Christ the King (ICK). There you will see a different picture of the Cargolic church!
We have Priests from Vietnam, Africa and Mexico. The Church could allow Priests to marry like the Eastern Rite; celibacy is a discipline not a Dogma. I see many young Catholic families with 6 plus kids and also an increase in young people embracing the traditional Catholic values, it’s almost becoming counter culture to practice religion.
Would love to see that but , it would take a while and the life of the couple and family is not always easy , the parish family has to step up and support these families and must be told why this extra support is needed .
With priests now being assigned more than one parish and the demands even in the evening hours, either the family will suffer or the church will suffer.
Not automatic. Bring back catechesis and good families and the increase will be more profound. The Latin Mass can help these factors but it’s not the only helping element
The reason that parish numbers are "increasing" is actually because the number of Catholics are decreasing and people are leaving the Church. They're closing churches and merging parishes so people have no choice but to go to a different church if their parish closes. 🤷🏻♀
Exactly. We are seeing the same thing happen on the east coast. Many people in my home parish are elated that the attendance has increased over the past few years. At the same time 5 other local parishes have closed there doors. The archdiocese of Philadelphia closed 47 parishes in one 2 year period alone back around 2006.
It depends on the area of the country. In the Northeast and Midwest, much of it is due to parish mergers. But in the south and west, it’s due to population increase, especially driven by Hispanic immigrants.
I dislike the term "megachurch", which the MSM often uses pejoratively. The piece is ok, but it almost seems to suggest a Catholic "megachurch" is dangerous. That would not be surprising in this cultural climate; almost 330 Catholic churches have been vandalized or desecrated in the past three years and the MSM is silent. At any rate, the union of several parishes is a serious matter requiring much discernment. It takes a number of years and is oriented toward serving Our Lord, the Church, clergy, and fellow parishioners as well the community. It reflects the growth of the Church in positive directions.
I was born and raised Catholic since I was born in 1945. I attended Catholic school in Northern California. The grand old cathedral style church is what I'm used to. At one point in my life, I thought of becoming a priest, but realized that wasn't my calling. I've known many Christian ministers in my lifetime and found so many to be HIPPOCRATES when it came to "real life". One priest I had known since I was in the second grade, eventually left the church in the early 70s and wanted to marry. Immediately, he was excommunicated . He lived to be in his 80s with his wife and daughter. I love my faith and I love it's heritage. Now, at 79, I have nothing but the fondest memories of my childhood as a young Catholic boy.
I sadly left the faith due to lack of social support from my peers, but I still have a lot of respect for the Mass. I even found myself doing the sign of the cross recently without realizing it.
@@RickW-HGWT I had a hard time making new friends in the faith, even as an adult convert. I get that the Church isn’t a social group, but a relationship with God, however giving people support when they need it and showing they care is also important.
@bokkebokke7 I don't disagree, in my traditional parish we have mens and women's groups , not all churches have them . Ask your priest if he has any recommendations, God bless, I will keep you in my prayers.
@@bokkebokke7 My church has lots of social groups that get together regularly for service to the community or to explore our faith more, but they’re great opportunities to meet and get to know others in the community in closer and smaller setting. Anyone can start up a group, then just tell the priest about it and ask for your meetings to be announced in the bulletin. Even if not a lot of people show up the first couple of meetings, just keep at it and more will come. Here are some of the groups we have at my parish: men’s, women’s, Bible study groups, climate change action group, pantry collection for the nearby shelter, sandwich-making for the homeless (weekly), faith formation, etc.

I think this is a step in the right direction, and makes sense just to build a bigger church. I'm not Catholic, and I don't automatically associate their priests with what that guy was accused of, but I do think they should start letting their clergy marry again. That would solve a lot of problems, and it might induce more people to enter the priesthood.
I have met His Eminence in person and he is a very good man to talk to and has the light of Christ within him. I liked this report, not shying away from the abuses and negatives but that there is a lot of growth.
Thank you for a respectful look inside the doors. But, you only showed priests. To minister among a megachurch congregation, it takes the spiritual gifts of many, mostly un-ordained. In the spirit of the historic Second Vatican Ecumenical Council (1960s CE) the leadership role of lay people was once again recognized in the Church. At that mass, you did not show all the lay people who were sharing the Sacrament of the Eucharist with those coming forward. And the Church is more than Sunday Mass alone: there are Bible Studies, Christian Education for children, youth, and adults, visitation to those confined to their homes, service to those in need, and so much more. In the past, the only way to serve the Church was as a priest or religious brother, sister, nun, or monk. Today, some married men choose to become ordained deacons, while most others who are married or married members choose to serve in their parishes. The Church is not "priests"--they are one part of it, with special gifts to serve as pastor to the baptized and inquirers who cross the Church's threshold of faith.
We're gnoring the reality that different religious vocations directors and bishops turn away some men who feel like they have a call. Sometimes over arbitrary things like being over 30s, coming from broken homes or alcoholic parents, having student loan debt, being a new convert or revert to the Church. They don't make it easy.
I don’t know what the specific circumstances of those individuals that were turned away, but I am glad that the Church is more conscientious looking into the backgrounds of seminarian applicants to prevent bringing in pedophiles and homosexuals that previously used the Church to find prey. I’m glad they’re stricter and looking more closely at these applicants rather than just blindly accepting anyone willing to join.
Megachurch is a Protestant church/organization. Mega church is a big building for worship, which is called church. There is no Catholic megachurch. They have big building but not a prosperity church. Indifferentism is a heresy. The definition of words is very important.
@@louieabramic4290 A megachurch is a Protestant Christian church that typically has a very large congregation, usually defined as drawing at least 2,000 attendees per week. These churches often offer a variety of educational and social activities, and many are known for their modern, stadium-like architecture. The concept of the megachurch began in the 19th century, with the first one being the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, founded by Charles Spurgeon in 1861. In the United States, the first megachurch was the Angelus Temple in Los Angeles, established by Aimee Semple McPherson in 1923. Today, megachurches are widespread, especially in the United States, where they are most commonly found in states like Florida, Texas, California, and Georgia. Some of the largest megachurches, known as “gigachurches,” can attract more than 10,000 attendees each week.
The shortage of priests in the country is their fault, I wanted to become one since I was young and many times I was turn away. “Too young”, “too early”, “wait longer to think about it,… and so on. If I was back in my country I would be a priest by now… sadly my country is going through terrible times and religious persecution is happening.
I love seeing so many white and hispanic people going to church together under one roof. With how divided identity politics has made us, the only thing that can unite us with love is our love of Christ and God.
I'm Catholic. Catholic grade school, high school, and college. The solution to attracting more men to the priesthood can be summed up in one word, marriage. Allow priests to marry. And, allow nuns to marry. One does not have to remain single and celibate to minister.
Glad someone said this. Agree 100%. God created Man and Woman in his image, why not honor what God has instilled in us? Instead require Priest and nuns to live unnatural lifestyles.
@@bobbyb9263 Unnatural? St. Paul praised marriage and celibacy, he himself was celibate. That man who baptized God was celibate. And no one is forcing anybody to be celibate, if you want to be married, go for it! If you want to be celibate, you do you. The nuns and priests freely chose this life.
This would have been better utilized by traditional catholics as they are attracting more priests and parishioners. The problem is, Pope Francis and most other bishops are against them hence doing everything in their power to suppress them. Australian newscast featured traditional Catholicism but not USA.
