These may be lower end as far as business laptops go, but are pretty bulletproof as a general purpose workhorse machine. Used one for over 6 years which included frequent travel and it still works without an issue with the exception of the battery no longer holding charge. Using it now as a secondary/backup machine.
I know this video is three years old, but I was just given two of these and some other Dell laptops because I rehab and donate them. Came across this video researching the model. The two I have, have i5 processors, Samsung ssd’s, 8GB Ram and fresh installs of Win 10 Pro. The CMOS batteries are shot but the rechargeable batteries still work. I’m surprised how speedy they are. Thick and heavy by standards of today but they will get people on the internet who don’t otherwise have computers. Cheers!
I have both an e6430 and e6530 and upgraded my mom to an e5430. I use the dock with both laptops. They sure beat the hell out of most consumer laptops for sure. Especially the models with ULV cpus and only 2gb of ram. Ouch! If I was in the market for a laptop and had less then $200 bucks to spend I would personally aim at one of these. That i3 might seem low end next to my i7 quad but that i3 is miles faster then any cheap netbook.
For what this series is, it's still one nice step up from the Vostro and Inspiron lines. I still have a Latitude e6430, I stuffed a quad core in that puppy. I miss the build quality. My 5491 is one sharp looking, and very fast mobile workstation, but there's little metal involved. It's a hybrid carbon polymer. Granted it still feels great in the hand. It's just not that tri metal goodness. But the 5420 and 5430 offered at least a really decent blend of that world verses the nearly all plastic construction.
Oh wow! I actually just got this laptop a few days ago. i5 3340M model. Upped to 12GB of RAM and it plays GTA V on normal settings without lagging or stuttering. My version came with an extended battery. Edit: I dont like how the wifi switch is tbh. It just slides and works. Kinda a red flag for mistakes
Hey man thanks for the video. i´m looking for a laptop to use for school/work/light gaming (2006-2010 era games) i found these two options: 1) Thinkpad X220 core i7 2620M 8Gb Ram ddr3 500 gb HDD. 2) same as the video (Dell Latitude E5430) Core i5 3340M 6gb ddr3 ram 320 gb HDD. which one should i go for ?
It's so late, yet no one answered you. So I will give you opinion even if you didn't ask. I would say, to go for the 2nd option solely because I saw the review of people stating that the i5-3340m is better than the 1st option.
I’m getting this as my first laptop. Is there anything you recommend I upgrade? Ram or something (idk anything about computers) Anything software I should download. Is virus protection still a thing ?
16GB RAM + an SSD would really make it feel speedy. Honestly I stopped using antivirus software many years ago, Windows does a decent enough job by itself, provided you aren't visiting sketchy websites lol
@@accordinglyryan thanks. I can find those on Amazon or is it better to go to Best Buy or something of the sort? Also how much will these additions cost 💲
i got that pc for like 3 years and i got windows 10 and it work but its not gaming pc but you still can play like project zomboid on it or some older gamess
@@accordinglyryan, thanks bro! But I wanna know if I can use an external camera though. (You know what I mean) like a web camera or something like that.
Any chance anybody knows how to factory reset the laptop. I lost mine from years ago and found it. I forgot my password and I don't have the stuff to change the password.
i have i5 version, 8gb of ram and backlit keyboard, upgraded to 2x ssd and it is very nice and fast laptop, I've connected to docking station and i have sweet silence. It is not for games ofc, for games I have console.
I have i5-2520m version of the Latitude e5420 (the Sandy Bridge equivalent of e5430) with 8gb RAM (soon upgrading to 16gb RAM and i7-2640m) and 480gb SSD and backlit keyboard. It has served me very very well for the 3 months that I have used it since I got it in October last year!!
