Yep, the Wii had games! More than people know even! With that I mean the Wii series of games though, not all of them... That's still a lot of games. I love games... We, or should I say wii(?) (Please laugh), all have great memories with these games, even if sometimes they could not really be called great games. But Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit and all those others still have that special place in our hearts, even if you have a mechanical heart!

Jeez. No comments? Really? (also, this comment was supposed to show up YESTERDAY, but after writing 90% of it I acidentally REFRESHED the page AGAIN. pain) Wii was... interesting. It was, basically, a better marketed, stronger GameCube (I like GameCube, but more as a curio than the console itself) with motion controls... and its success was well earned (and we lucked out with it, because I'm PRETTY sure that it could be quite dire for Nintendo if they've failed TWO times in a row). I really liked the comparison to PS2 - both consoles were really influential, popular, had AMAZING libraries featuring both original games AND great remakes and had copious amounts of shovelware. ...I still believe that the original PlayStation was the most important MODERN console (as in 1990+). I liked Wii (my family got it for Christmas 2010 from my aunt). I PROBABLY spent a lot less time with it than I should (mostly playing Wii Sports, Sports Resorts, NMH1+2 and Xenoblade), but I liked it and had a lot of fun. The ability to just show a game to somebody and them instantly being able to play the game was pretty cool. I still remember when we took the console to a family gathering and we did a large Wii Sports Archery competition. Nintendo did something really powerful, they also repeated it with Switch: they've made a "side console" that wasn't supposed to DIRECTLY rival with Playstation, Xbox or PC... it offered a different, more casual experience that the "main platforms" lacked. They created their own... niche (even if its not really a NICHE seing how many people have bought a Switch). Now! To the video and what's it about! First thing: I love the format. One theme - multiple games bound by it. And Wii games it's quite an interesting one. They were videos like this, but I think I enjoyed this one the most. It's simple, to the point, with enough personal flavor. Wii Sports was and is amazing. A perfect tech showcase for the motion controls. I was quite surprised when you've said that Japanese Wiis weren't packed with them. Then again... Japanese were really weird about packed-in games (probably because they didn't need an incentive to buy a console). To be honest... every sport in Wii Sports is solid and fun. Sure, there are clear winners (Boxing) and losers (Golf), but... hear me out. Baseball in this game is actually really fun (if REALLY simplified and quite RNG). Though, I might be biased as after spending so much time devouring both western and japanese media I actually got interested in the game itself. ...and in Poland we have a bootleg version of Baseball called "palant" which every kid was forced to play in elementary school, so it was a bit easier to "get it". And hey! It was fun to see different Miis in both teams and made "stories" inside your head about the games. Golf... mmm... golf is golf. Wii version is really solid though! I think that if you would spend some more time playing golf games you would change your mind a bit. It's just about "getting" the mechanics and then abusing them to do awesome shots. If I can suggest a GREAT golf series - Everybody's Golf. Especially the PS4 version (once you finally get PS4 or 5). The special VR version even features Kat from Gravity Rush (...which TOTALLY wasn't the reason WHY I bought that darned peripheral)! Wii Sports Resort is perhaps my second favorite Wii game (the first place is obvious). EVERY game is great if gimmicky (and bowling is even better than in the original Wii). Table Tennis, Archery and Sword Fighting (especially sword fighting) are obvious standouts, but others were still really enjoyable - yes, even Frisbee (also, "disc golf" irl is really relaxing and fun! I really suggest you to try it!) and golf (though tbh I prefer the original "simpler" version). And it's perhaps the only game (ok, not counting Soul Calibur where we create weird-ass characters and fight against each other) that is played during "nerd parties" I attend - let me tell you, there's nothing better than watching (or playing yourself) two really drunk people playing swordfighting. I've managed to get every possible stamp in resorts and it's something that I'm really proud of (...yeah, probably played the game a lot more than XC). Wii Play and Wii Play plus were... just okay minigame compilations. As a bonus to the Wiimote they worked well, I suppose? WiiParty IS THE party game. I don't think there's better console board game than it. ...well, okay, maybe Fortune Street. Still, I'm really surprised how GOOD it was. I like WiiChess for how bizarre and out of place it is. Like... Chessmaster (3000 is my prefered version of playing chess) had a lot more personality! ...still... it's a really interesting piece of Ninendo's history and a nice addition to every collection (and it was PAL exclusive if I'm remember correctly?). WiiMusic is the meme. I just... pity everyone who got it. And also to a lesser degree I pity its developers. WiiFit was meh... upgraded balance board was interesting, but the whole "game" felt... undercooked. And if you want to hear this in real life then ok: "Good job"

Someone has to take the refresh button away from you so it won't happen again! What I also liked about the Wii was that the fact it was really weak meant other companies had to create unique games, instead of trying to port their PS3/360 games. Sure, some did like Rockstar with their Table Tennis game (It just makes too much sense to put that onto the Wii, even if they somehow made it way inferior to the actual good 360 game) but it also gave us things like Soulcalibur Legends... which isn't really that much of a great game but better than some down-watered port of SC5. And it also allowed games to be made still for cheap while the costs just got higher and higher on the HD consoles. Xenoblade Chronicles was able to be so massive because it was still running on weaker hardware and didn't had to create so many unique HD assets, something many other JRPG devs had to struggle with during those times. Monolith Soft are also just amazing in general so maybe it was also because of that, XS3 looks like an early PS3 game basically. I do agree that the PS1 was so important, mostly so someone could kick Nintendo's ass. People always go on about the whole "Nintendo was DUMB for not making that deal happen with Sony and creating their own big competitor!" and yeah, maybe it was dumb for Nintendo but for us customers it was the best thing to happen. I don't wanna disrespect Sega but... Nintendo needed someone like Sony to mop the floor with them during those days and learn. Which they did... and also not. But that's a way too lengthy topic! I got my Wii also at Christmas! In 2006 though and to this day I still have my mom telling me getting a Wii was one of the hardest things she ever had to do during those days because it was just the most sought out thing at that time. It was my first console I ever had so close to release and that also made it pretty special for me. I looked the situation with the packed-in Wii Sports up again before making the video to really make sure I didn't said anything wrong and it was actually Reggie who told Nintendo to make Wii Sports a packed-in game and that's one of those rare Reggie moments where he actually did something good, but I guess Nintendo of Japan was still, nah, we over here don't need it and get some few extra bucks from it. Trust me, I did try a whole bunch of Golf games in my life but I just don't really get into it. Same with like... American Football I guess. Some things just don't work for me! With sports games I kinda have to get really invested into the sport and have it be interactive. If that makes sense! I wanted to play the PS3 Everybody's Golf once for getting trophies but then I saw... yep... online trophies... that can't be gotten anymore... I have to kneel, I don't think I would have it in me to get every stamp (I stupidly called them still medals in Resort and the video and only noticed when it was too late)... nowadays at least! Back in the day I maybe would have been willing to grind it more, even for sports I'm not too fond of. And yeah, these type of games really mostly shine when you play them with others, even if playing them alone is also pretty fun! I still gotta try out Fortune Street one day... And I do think that the older Mario Parties are better, obviously with a bit of nostalgia bias but Wii Party is a worthy competitor and I'm happy Mario Party recently got back into the groove and the new one looks to be the best to date (hopefully). Wii Chess was PAL only but eventually got a Wiiware only version in Japan only, kinda weird how they just ignored America. And yeah, there's way more they could have done with Wii Fit, but especially with the balance board itself too. Always felt a bit weird to me how Nintendo just dropped it completely instead of trying to use it for something else. Yay, thank you! I will keep doing a good job... maybe!
