I am gambling this is the final of 2018 but if Kempton is anything to go by, an Olympian ring at your door delivering the latest and may be greatest M4/3 offering yet for 2019 is with you. If not thank you for all your videos and long may they continue. Happy new year.
I just tested this lens, it's really odd. I came away with the feeling that Olympus or Panasonic would never release something like this because of all of it's quirks, yet I find I like it. The hood gets into the image for a third of it's zoom range, and the focus only says near-far because it changes drastically with focal length. That said, I found this lens has some wonderful abilities that others don't. Close focusing at 6mm is really, really close, as in less than 1cm from the subject. Add to that the depth of field at f8 and it becomes an almost macro lens with the flat field of a funhouse mirror. One of the things I love about your reviews is that they often come back to the size of the camera outfit, and the idea of the perfect kit. I often travel with the Meike 6.5mm circular fisheye and the Rokinon 7.5mm fisheye, and sometimes the Rokinon 8mm fisheye, which is massive. I was looking for one lens to replace all my other fisheye lenses, and after using it for two weeks, I'm still not sure if this does the job... My conclusion on this lens (along with the Meike 85mm macro) is that it doesn't fit with the Micro Four Thirds system because they're just too heavy compared to other lenses that do the same thing. I can't see riding my bike somewhere with that lens on my back, but I could see going to the botanical gardens with both of those lenses and a really sturdy (heavy) tripod. As always, thanks for the review. Your style is a welcome change in a world of in-your-face you RU-vidrs.
Thanks Ed ! Odd, absolutely but it will fill the bill for some. Your conclusions sum up the conundrum with lenses of this type. Overall, I like Meike because they give us more choices, as you say ones that Olympus and Panasonic would never do. And if anyone doesn't like them, they don't need to buy one.
Its size makes it unsuited for mft. Too bad, because the focal range is interesting. The meike 6mm for circular fisheye and the samyang 7,5mm for diagonal fisheye remain better choices.
@@DavidThorpeMFT Nevermind. I tested it and returned. It squeezes image on edges too much. I recently found out that the only fisheye lenses that are usable for me are Samyang's stereographic 2.8 fisheyes. I gave generic 7.5mm 2.8 APS-C model with MFT mount and it must be enough.
Perfectly understandable - but the Meike is still nice for those photographers who don't have or don't want to spend the money for an uncropped fisheye.
Your wonderfully laconic drift took me wandering, again...into The 360^ Mirror World of the Amazing Jan Van Eyck oil on Oak..picture of Giovanni Arnolfini & his Missus..c. 1434....And I thought would our Jean Van E..have done with a Fisheye lensed camera..? But goodness, just look what he did with his bare hands..Arnolfini picture is in our National Gallery..Free to view..worth the Trip ! As is Velasquez’ pix..he’s my real hero..Same gallery. Brilliant how your vids provoke. Thank you very much. I follow a Stanley Unwinesque boffin, an Engineering Genius here on RU-vid, called AvE..Who mesmerises, as you do..Just talking about simple but complex issues..Cheers !
