I had an idea to reboot Speed Racer as an modern styled anime, but make it loosely based off of the 2008 movie. That means keep the fast paced action, keep the vibrant color palette, keep the car and track design, keep the themes, but give it a more serious tone (with a little bit of humor), and focus more on the characters and how they develop. Also, a *Eurobeat soundtrack* which takes a bit of inspiration from the original themes. (Maybe some J-rock too for good measure). I’d love for Studio Trigger to get a hold of the idea because they could definitely make this into a great show. I’d love to see this in the same style they used in SSSS Gridman, with the CG animation for the cars, and normal hand-drawn for the characters. It would make it easier to animate the cars and would honestly look better. I think it’d be fitting because Speed Racer was originally an anime. And let’s face it, this franchise *needs* something good to make it relevant again. Oh and have OxT remake the main theme. That would be lit
I wouldn't consider "M-Thunder" a reboot. More like a follow-up series. This happens all the time in Japan with series like Gundam, Kamen Rider, Super Sentai and Ultraman.
The movie is my all time favorite film. I can't wait to check all of these out once I finish the original series. I only ever knew of Next Generation when I was growing up.
Same, the 2008 movie is my all time favorite movie, and you will never see another movie like Speed Racer, which is one of the reasons I like it so much
Restart (subbed version) I would definitely agree is a fantastic Speed Racer reboot! I actually paid the Amazon price for Funimation's collector's edition; which is around $100, just to get Restart. Heck, prior to collecting the Blu-Ray/DVD set, I actually collected the Tomy toy of the 1997 Mach 5 and fixed the paint chips including adding the 5 since the seller probably lost the stickers. Fun Fact: I actually commented on Land of Obscusion's re-edit on the Y2K dub of Restart on how I wanted to redub all 34 episodes of Restart, including restoring the original Japanese background music unlike Dic's "X" dub. Hopefully Restart will get the faithful redub it deserves. To end my comment, I hope you'll survive the terror that is: Race to the Future. Take care.
I did the same not to long ago.I bought the speed racer collectors edition from amazon for $100.00.Sure it's overkill for doubles on japanese and u.s version of the original show but it was worth it to me.Plus i all ways wanted to watch mach,go,go,go restart so that was a nice added bonus.Still i think it was shady on funimation part, since it's the all only way you can buy a copy of the reboot.
I love the fact that Zile is Captain Terror, former leader of the Car Acrobatics team. It's so damn out of left field when you piece it together, but the fact the creators found a way to not only bring back the Melange X3 and the Mammoth Car for two episodes BUT also used the original sound effects, Next Gen imo was a love letter to the fans.
Nice channel dude. So basically there's an american company that has been doing poor reboots and sequels and people lost interest in the series, at least in the west. A shame.
Great video Mach 5 Museum. The classic original proper Speed Racer from 1967 is by far the best and definitely my favourite. Speed Racer is one of my favourite cartoons of all time apart from many others including of course Albert The 5th Musketeer. Speed Racer is also one of the greatest cartoons ever made along with Albert and many other ones.
That 1993 series Brings back so many memories. It’s funny you reference the Dodge Viper influence because that use to be my favorite car as a child. Still loved that design of the 1993 Mach 5 although I still wonder how the front tires turn.
I would like to see a Mach Go Go Go reboot done by Michiharu Kusunoki where he takes it in a similar direction that he took Wangan MIdnight by giving it more realism and keeping the spirit of the original show by having it being set in the racing culture of the late 60s or early 70s but having it more fleshed out by having it focus more on racing and actual car specs, along with having more real life cars like Ferraris, 280Zs, Corvettes, GT40s, Mustangs, and so on. By the same token, have it focus more on how racing affects people and relationships as a homage to the original's 1950/early 60s values where it talks about Go's estranged older brother who turns out to be Kamen Racer, how Pops and Go build race cars together as father and son, as well as Michi and Sabu being loyal and helpful friends.
My favorite reboots are Restart ( or X ) and the second season of The Next Generation series. I also really appreciate the concept of Speed Racer Lives and I think that it could have really worked with better animation and more episodes. I really wish we had a new series... ( Also...Sorry for my bad english. English is not my first language...) PS: Can you please do a video talking about The Next Generation?
Im sad Speed was never put into Tatsunoko vs Capcom. If you can put Phoenix Wright, an anime attorney into Marvel vs Capcom 3 lol, then Speed can fight Ryu anytime.
10 months late, but PLEASE cover the Speed Racer Candy Tracks flash game crossover, from back when the movie first released back in '08 Playing as the Mach 6 in that game used to be my shit, and nowadays I rarely see it being talked about or attempted to be brought back in some way shape or form.
According to My Research, Mach Go Go Go Restart was somehow considred as Failed. This is why the episodes got Cancelled from 50 to only 30. and This Resulting to the Cancellation Of a Gatchaman Reboot called "Shin Gatchaman" due to Tatsunoko Unable to Gain Sponsor.
For me, I'd like a cross between the movie-verse and the Restart-verse A part of me would like the T180 bodies adapted to Battle Car style racing, and the power-ups they entail. Plus, they both present an amazing cast of characters. On the flipside, I can't be the only one who wants to see Michael's Cutthroat as the first 6WD T180.
I had an idea to reboot Speed Racer. As a modern-styled anime, but make it loosely based off the original, a little bit from the 1997 version, F-Zero, a forgotten anime called Future GPX Cyber Formula and Initial D. That means keeping the plot from being bland of having the episode so obvious and being hooked on to the story making it interesting for anyone who wants to watch the next episode. Making fast-paced action for racing and fighting, keep the vibrant color palette, improve the cars and track design, keep the themes a little simple, but give it a more serious tone (with a little bit of humor), and focus more on the characters and how they develop. Also, the soundtrack, I was thinking of several bands that would be perfect for the new reboot, such as Psychic Lover, FLOW, Kana Boon, Asian Kung Fu Generation, The Pillows, etc., and which takes a bit some of the inspiration from the original themes. I was thinking, if the Tatsunoko Production would team up with Studio Trigger. To improve the idea of the art style and the plot, because they could make this into a great show if you have the right people for the job. I’d love to see this in the same style they used in Promare or BNA, with normal hand-drawn, for the characters, and computer animation for the background and the cars, and it would honestly look better if you combined the two together. I think it’d be fitting because Speed Racer was the first racing anime and the most well-known anime in history. And let’s be honest, this franchise deserves a comeback, and it needs something good to make it relevant again.
Tatsunoko Original’s _Restart_ (1997) is a great reboot to watch. Initially I disliked it for its 2nd season storyline, but I grew into it after watching it myself. I really loved this reboot after watching 1967 Speed Racer. Y2K dub was alright, same, they didn’t meddle with the music and kept it original with the exception of the intro which was bad. SRX sucked, they removed a couple episodes in the beginning which had led to so many plotholes that English viewers would’ve had saw, but it was rated for kids so there was no walking away from it.
If they were ever to make a new Speed Racer/Mach GoGoGo series, I'd like it to have a contemporary setting, rather than a future setting. Just imagine the Mach 5 at Le Mans.
Yo used to follow you on twitter alot, nice to see you had a RU-vid channel. It be cool to maybe tackle the Speed Racer list of crossovers Tatsunoko used to do, like how he has constantly appeared in the Time Bokan series like Yatterman and Yatterman 2008 he has a sick fight scene in there
Idea for Rebooting Speed Racer: Fuse with the otherworldly concepts from Hot Wheels' Acceleracers that has been taken down from youtube and will likely never see the light of day again!
Good video! A bit of quick constructive criticism: I'd recommend a lot improving footage. especially considering most of the clips are short, low quality, and repetitive. Maybe throw a few pictures in too, when talking about stuff like toys merch etc. Also maybe going a bit more in depth, especially since you glossed over most of these reboots.
My idea for a Speed Racer reboot is that it would be a modern anime style using designs of their 2008 video game versions. Using material from the movie focusing more in-depth on the world of t180 racing having the tracks like in the movie as the tone would be serious but comedic. with a colorful color palette and new track designs and Giving characters from the 2008 movie exclusive characters more depth like Grey Ghost, Taejo Togo Khan, Kellie Gearbox, Cannonball Taylor, and Sonic Boom. the plot would be somewhat of the movie but would be more extended to build up more into the final race like mid-season the race of fuji helexicon happens and speed crashes in a similar fashion. the Casa Cristo race happens, and team Taejo same thing happens Taejo's sister gives speed an invite to the Grand Prix and they build the car record time to compete and race and expose Royalton industries. for season 1 of 1-hour episodes of 20-25 episodes exploring more T180 racing. Season 2 would be based on the video game plot unknown but maybe Cannonball Taylor comes back with Vengeance but is part of a group that Sabotages cars or something also this series would use the soundtrack from the game. but its up to you guys what would Season 2 be about. but tldr this reboot would be if hotwheels met beyblade
I caught the tail end of the original airing of 'The New Adventures of Speed Racer' back when it was on TV, and LOVED it as a kid. I kept trying to find it for years in TV listings, but every time the Preview Channel listed 'The New Adventures of..." it ended up being Winnie the Pooh. Years later when the internet was a thing, I couldn't find any episodes online, BUT there were Laserdiscs of most episodes on eBay.
What did they do to the characters for the final of Speed X?! Or at least the concept of it? Those concepts looked WAY more faithful to the original. 0:55, 0:59 Yeah, that’s why I never liked these reboots, they always redesign these characters where they don’t even look like themselves anymore, they change stuff here in the West ruining it and messing it all up, but also especially the voices, Peter Fernandez and Corinne Orr are the ONLY Speed and Trixie here in the west, and without them (or their original Japanese VA’s), voicing them, it’s just not Speed Racer. :/ They got older, I get that, but I wish they didn’t keep on replacing them, they should of voiced them again for those reboots back then. I’m glad though Peter got to voice Speed Sr. in Season 1 of “The Next Generation” before suddenly sadly passing away in 2010 while Season 2 was being made, that was awesome they invited him back to voice Speed again back then! ^^ (Unfortunately, for the last and final time in the Season 1 final, I bet Peter was looking forward to voicing Speed Sr. again in Season 2, but that all sadly went down the drain when he suddenly sadly passed away. :( ) They didn’t bother getting Corrine back for Trixie in Season 2 unfortunately whoever they got to replace her, her voice was AWFUL, and didn’t sound right for her, same with Speed Sr., his character just wasn’t himself and just wasn't the same anymore in Season 2 without Peter. :( (That's why I refuse to watch Season 2, they should of just written out Speed Sr.'s character after Peter's unfortunate passing or ended the show after, it would of made a sweet ending. ^^
I grew up watching the pilot movie of Next Gen on DvD non stop as far back as preschool. I remember also renting a DvD with that giant Connor episode and being put off completely, hah. Still, doubt I’d be as much of a car dork today without it.
Hmmm. I went to this video because I remembered a speed racer thing that I watched as a little kid and I’m trying to find it again. I don’t remember much about it at all but I do remember one episode where they’re doing a race or something in some virtual/digital world and the mammoth car and some other car try to get speed racer and stop from escaping this virtual race. I remember them saying something like ‘these guys were enemies of my dad’ so I might be thinking of next generations and I just don’t recognize it. I remember at the end of the episode the mammoth car and the other bad car were in the real world and were circling around something in the middle of a parking lot or track. I remember being really put off be these guys because there were no mention of people driving them, they were just big evil machines. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? What’s it from?
7:25 Srsly dude, I am trying to find that one show, and you cut all the info of it. I want to find it cuz I watched it growing up, why do so many ppl just SKIP it alltogether!
“Speed Racer X” was produced by DiC, not Speed Racer Enterprises. DiC had dubbed no more than thirteen episodes of “Mach GoGoGo: Restart” before they were sued by SRE for copyright infringement.
Dude i kinda mistake in this video is the Speed Racer X was not have a good audiencie on japan and o north america etc..,wen he was run out so the studio cut the plan of 52 episode to 32 to just try ro se with the audiencie would start to see from the "Crazy" Time travel stuff the show haved on his end.
I didn't like the movie & the problem is stop trying to modernize Speed. The original show was about 3 things, Him The Mach 5 & his adversary or the villain. If They did a movie or tried to pick up where the old series left off, then it will catch on. The problem with Speed Racer is that we wanted more than one season of the original, we wanted more of that & nobody has even tried to act on that.
I kinda wish we got a toy if the mach 5 from mach go go go restart. Jade gave toys to the og mach 6, shooting star, grx, cabala's car, and snake oilers car. Maybe we could give em a hint?
We kinda got that with Legendary Defender and Amazon is apparently doing their own take as well. Both are more based off the Voltron version and in LD’s case it really should have ended at Season 6 but still. There were also 3rd Dimension and Force but those were more continuations. Dunno if we’ll ever get an anime reimagine of Golion though.
@@johnathonturner2279 you are talking about the pinapple race no? Speed yea isn't necessarily evil, but yea he does have this crazy obsession with winning over everything.
@@abcdfgsubscription4490 Speed considers "throwing" a race as cheating, and refuses to break the rules of a "Fair" race. This is explained by him in the pineapple race episode.
I just wanted to point out that the dub Speed Racer X is older than Sonic X, by a full year (2002 and 2003 respectively). If anything Sonic Team ripped the lame naming off of DIC. :D
The New Adventures of Speed Racer is kind of reminding me of Nelvana's Neverending Story cartoon in terms of looks, & how it's apparently this highly bland cartoon, but isn't outright bad(though RobTheWonderful absolutely teared the Neverending Story cartoon apart in his review of it, & he'd probably do the same on this as well).
Anyone else feel like Speed Racer is due for a win? If Tatsunoko won't do it, then maybe Toei could animate it and Funimation could dub it when the time comes. I'm just saying, the best modern adaptation of Speed Racer was the movie and that's in hindsight
The New Adventures was pretty boring but I unironically like the theme song and the first time travel episode because Jim Cummings played the villain which was similar to his other roll of Dr. Robotnik. As for Restart: The 1st half is quite good but the Handler arc was awful.
Call me nostalgia blind. But, I feel like the 1993 reboot has aged better than the original, even though it has shown its age also. I'm sorry. But I feel the original is too cheesy and campy for my taste. I can see the flaws. But, I don't understand it's failure.
Not to brag but the 2008 film is pretty bad. The acting is wooden, there’s way too much special effects, and the story isn’t really convincing to me. Maybe I’m not a fan of the series but the movie is bad and usually films based on cartoons are. Also the Wachowski Brothers directed this so you can see there’s too much Matrix in this.
I respect your opinion, but I feel that "way too much special effects" is kind of a moot point considering that it was quite literally a live action anime
The acting was far from wooden. The cast all did a great job, and Royalton was an amazing Speed Racer villain. Finally a corporate villain and not just another assassin.
I agree about the movie & the problem is stop trying to modernize Speed.
@@samiamcolesioe2469 it won't. The original anime is absolutely dated for today's standards. We have seen just about everything that they have done before. We have better written villans today. Also, the original anime was episodic which is a huge issue in itself. Speed and just about everyone remains the same. Everything for the most part doesn't change in terms of character development. Nothing really changes for the most part. You have to modernize it in a way. The 2008 film already did that to perfection. Rewritting all of the characters in a way that is overall better than the original anime. The family actually feels like a family. They were almost never present in the original anime with the exception of Trixie, Sprittle, and Speed. The 2008 film kept the look and feel of the original anime and modernized it perfectly for a modern audience. The anime of 1967 at one point in time was considered revolutionary and it was unlike anything seen before in america media at the time. That is what the 2008 film tried to recreate. The feel of watching it back in 1967 for the first time. It did succeed. Atleast some of the portion of the Speed Racer fanbase can agree that the movie did keep the spirit of the original anime.
