So interesting how all homeschool companies are behind on orders this year! It makes sense, I guess! The Wonderful Houses Around the World" is a new addition to the set since we bought it, that one looks good!
I love the books you shared in this video. I can truly see that Sonlight fits your homeschool very well! Looking forward to see how you all will progress throughout the year.
Homer Price was one of our favorite books. We took a field trip to a donut store when we came to the part where the donuts were coming off the machine, way too many. All my kids loved the book.
These look like some great books! I love a literature based curriculum (we use Torchlight) and since I am addicted to books, I am still always looking for more to get!
Do you think this level would be too easy/uninteresting for an upcoming fifth grader if I did it along with our third grader? Never used Sonlight but looking for a good literature based curriculum! We currently use beautiful feet.
I got HBL B to use this last year 2020-21, but it overwhelmed me a bit. When I found they re-did the levels right after I purchased early in February 2020, I tried it for a handful of weeks and then I decided to hold off until this next year 2021-22. I think it’s going to be great. I’ve been pregnant all school year so sitting around reading and getting out of breath was not super enjoyable. I’m due next Friday, so I’m sure when we pick it up in the Fall we’ll do better. 🥰👍🏻
I went with MFW this year (since i thought it would be cheaper) but after buying Book Basket books they recommend to complete the course, I ended up spending around $300 more....Sonlight will be our choice for next year! (Plus, it'll save me time since I won't need to find and buy/locate books to use for our required reading for the topics.) :)
Thank you for the review! What level of readers would you recommend if your child is in 2nd grade, but they are reading at a 4th/5th grade level? And do you read some of the books with your children and discuss or do they read some books independently and answer questions on their own?
They read the readers alone and then I ask the questions from the readers guide and start the discussion. The readers k-5 don’t necessarily correlate to the HBL core so you could just put your kiddos on whatever level he’s comfortable reading.
Well, I would always look to find it used first. But if you want to buy the guide used then find the books elsewhere: find the core you want on the website, click "what's included," go down to the instructor's guide, click on it, and you can add it to your cart separately!
Yes, I think if you didn't want to do A with them, or maybe you already have, B would be fine. A couple of the read alouds may be a little boring for your 6 year old but that just depends on their maturity I think!
I am seriously considering Sonlight HBL for next year. Are you still loving and using their curriculum? We did a textbook history this year and was so dry and boring. Prior to this year we had used Beautiful Feet which is literature based.
@@MommaonMission is it cheaper to do that? I haven’t purchased anything from sonlight yet, we have just been getting read alouds from the library. I would love to purchase their history hands on stuff and the ig but that alone is 150 👀
@@michelleagyemang868 which hands on stuff? Yes, the IG is $90 new. I got it used for $35. And most of the books I find on sites like ThriftBooks/Secondsale/AbeBooks/BookOutlet. If not, I will either buy new or borrow them. Last year I spent less than $200 on level B, which is normally over $400
