It's really this simple in America: If you don't want to read a book from a library, don't check it out. If you don't want your child to read that book, communicate with the librarian and inform them you must aporove all material their child wishes to borrow. If you have an overall concern about the appropriateness of age-level of the book for the library, talk to the librarian and/or their supervisor. BUT you do NOT get to make a list of books that trigger you and then tell me and everyone else that we can't have access to them. I don't need illiterate, ignorant morons evaluating what materials I can or can't read.

Former Texas school teacher here: This sort of corruption by administrators, law enforcement, and elected officials is what drove me to quit a career I loved. A career at which I excelled. A career in which I was a third generation legacy. I care so much about public education, and I left a part of my soul there when I left. But I would have unalived if I had stayed (to be read literally).

I spent my formative years living in Granbury. The place is named after a Confederate general and the town still uses a cartoonish likeness in a Confederate uniform to tell tourists where parking, restrooms, etc are located. The United Daughters of the Confederacy and allied organizations are very powerful sociopolitical voting and advocacy blocs for the city and county. In 15 years of living there I very rarely saw anyone who wasn't white or white-passing. The vast majority of the county is poor whites living in unincorporated trailer park slums with almost no education, high crime and rampant drug abuse. The wealthy whites live in massive gated communities of several thousand homes with their own private police forces (De Cordova Bend and Pecan Plantation). Corruption and nepotism in city and county government feed into the 12-15 city cops hired for a population of less than 10k. Back in the 2000's there were unincorporated slum areas where 911 calls for fire or EMT would not respond unless there were police available for escort. I'm sure it's no better now. I'm horrified to see this but unfortunately not surprised. Also no surprises that one of the books is Toni Morrison.

I had a family member who used to work there and they got harassed and even ended up getting tires slashed and conflicts with locals over books. Some of the books have been there 30+year's. HOW ABOUT THEY CONTROL THE DRUG TRAFFICKING IN GRANBURY INSTEAD OF GOING AFTER BOOKS.

My husband is a retired school librarian and a current public librarian. When did he become the enemy? He serves his community and provides many services that many people would not have access to if it weren’t for the library. I am so grateful that my husband’s library is supportive of his efforts. I can’t imagine being prosecuted for simply doing your job!!

Being a teacher or a school librarian has to be one of the worst jobs today in modern times. They have deal deal with crappy kids who treat them like dirt and abuse them as well as their even crappier parents. All while making crappy wages. I have nothing but respect for them. You know, books are what taught me how the world works. It strikes me that if children don’t hear/read about child trafficking, then how would they recognize it? They would be vulnerable to being recruited. Better they read about it and gain knowledge than to innocently walk into it.

That constable needs to investigate actual crimes.

There needs to be an audit of how much time of LEAs, prosecutors, and administrative people were actually involved. How much did this witch hunt cost the taxpayers of that county? My 12-year-old son can read whatever he wants, and I invite him to. Anytime he has found a book distasteful or confusing we either talk about it, or he puts it back on the shelf and simply moves on. STUDENTS should be the judges of their own reading material, and librarians are equipped and educated to aid them in seeking out works they might find interesting/relevant. As a parent, I am far more disturbed by the overreach of law enforcement here than any literary content they “discovered” during this sham of an investigation. Also, I live in Texas, and had no idea this was going on until now.

I definitely would have to say that most parents failed to realize that 50 percent of the books or so, are fictional types. There is the reason why people who never read books, don’t know the difference any more of what’s fictional or non-fictional anymore.

As a retired teacher, this cop had absolutely no business doing this. And Texas wonders why close to 50,000 teacher have quit in the last 3 years
