Mahmoud Movahedifar is the Imam of the Blue Mosque in Yerevan. He leads Friday prayers, where there are not only Iranians participating, but South Asians, Africans and Arabs. Mr. Movahedifar gives insight into this community in the Armenian capital and why the mosque is a symbol of friendship between Armenia and Iran.

Greetings from New Zealand. We visited this mosque in 2018 when we visited Yerevan, beautiful. Also visited Iran. Both countries have wonderful and friendly people, Muslim and Christians. Peace to all. Jim and Jenny.

Talking to donkey makes more sense than talking to a turkoazerb. Truth for Turkoaziks is what serves their interests. They claim Nezami, a great Persian poet, is azik although you can’t find even one Turkic verse or sentence in his work. Ironically, one of Nezami’s most prominent works is about an ancient Persian kings love to an Armenian princess! Makes you wonder why nobody in Azikstan asks their authorities why their great poet never wrote in their language and decided to write about Persian king and Armenian princess.

Have a drop of honesty and bravery at least once and say the truth which all these mosques were Azerbaijani mosques and all prayers were ethnic Azerbaijanis in those cities… Persians are on the other end of Iran, and they were not around these lands…

What is “Azerbaijani?” That word wasn’t even used in the 18th century to denote ethnicity. Plus the whole region was under Iranian control

Why do you keep saying persian when it was Iranian rule. Iranian because it was azerbayjani people running army and government while persian had part in beaurocracy. Persians are one ethnic groups

Because back then the country was called Persia and the mosque has tones of Persian inscriptions. The Byzantine empire had many Armenian emperors and Armenian generals. Armenians were an important part of the empires army considered to be some of the most courageous soldiers. Now, will it make sense for Armenians to claim that Byzantine cathedrals were Armenian?!! You don’t understand history. And who told you we don’t call it Iranian?! In Yerevan, it’s widely accepted as the Iranian mosque. You think Iran back then was Azerbaijani? Show me one Iranian decree. I repeat only one Iranian decree. Again, just one Iranian official decree from that time in Azerbaijani language. You cannot. You don’t even understand the basic historical facts.
