On Saturday 20 April 1912, a man by the name of C.A. Mathew came out of Liverpool Street Station carrying his camera.
There’s no telling why he decided to a stroll around the streets of Spitalfields on that day and take photographs. But in doing so, he captured the lost world of the then Jewish East End of London.
While in this video we’ll be walking from Liverpool Street to Aldgate, we’ll take a detour around the 1912 streets of Spitalfields, on the 110th anniversary of Mathew’s walk.
Number 3 of 408 in a series of walking between every London Underground station.
Filmed on 20 April 2022.
