Hello from the eastern border of your eastern neighbour. Just found your channel, by making a search in RU-vid. Have been using the OM-D EM-10 for 10 years. Now a month ago I gave that as a gift to my youngest son - camera still in excellent condition. Because the size and looks of these models are so superb, I didn't want anything bulkier, such as OM-1 or another brand. So, despite all the negative reviews (being a lousy update to EM-5 mk 3, USB etc), I knew that the OM-5 is just what I want and need. The Live ND and High res shot modes are nice. Skies are slowly getting darker, so the Starry AF is going to be tested soon. This camera is so much fun, especially with my new Epson Ecotank ET-8550 printer. Printing your photos is really something that I've been missing so long. Keep quality videos coming...

Hello!! 👋 I hope you and your son will get some wonderful times together with the cameras 😊 I mean, pretty much the only negative ANYONE has said or written about the OM-5 is that the menu is horrible and the lack of USB-c, so if that’s the only bad things, it must be a pretty darn good camera 😄 I’m looking forward to trying out Starry AF as well, havent got around to it yet. I thought about buying a printer- a beginner one… any suggestions?? A2-A4 maybe? Thanks for the feedback also 🙏

Hi Jimmy! Just found your channel , will look at your videos. I will soon buy the OM5 since i hav watched alot of videos about it. I am also from Sweden (Skåne).Started with photography about 2 years ago so i have much to learn.Have a Nikon D7500 now.

Tjenare!

Hi, I'm happy YT recommended this video to me. I like the vibe of your video and your vibe as well. By the way, you take fantastic photos. I'm new to photography, I used to hate photos before because all I thought was that photos were meant to have people as subjects, and I hated my own pictures. I didn't like it when somebody took photos of me. Then one day I started to play around with my phone's camera, taking pictures of literally anything I saw. Then I realized photography is actually fun, and it doesn't always need people as subjects. It can be anything. I just subscribed to your channel, and I hope it grows more and more. Keep making content of this quality. Also, I'm hoping you'll do mobile photography soon to cater to amateurs like us who don't have or cannot afford a camera. ❤‍🔥📸🔥

Hi ☺ Thank you for the compliment, I appreciate it a lot! I actually love that kind of photography, more of a snapshot-style. You just find something right in this moment that you find amazing. As you say, you can take photos of anything really. I think the biggest difference between a beginner and an intermediate is that the beginner shoots anything meanwhile the intermediate try to find a composition. So I guess you can say that you could follow pretty much any guide of photographing and still apply it to your phone. Most phones has some kind of pro-mode where you can change exposure, aspect ratio etc. You can still apply the rule of thirds, leading lines and such as well. I really like the idea of just photoing with the phone, thanks for the idea! 😄

Nice video Jimmy, some lovely photos and I’m jealous you have the Live ND mode.

@jimmywestphoto Месяц назад
Hey, Chris! Yeah LiveND is pretty great tbh but I find it limiting on the OM-5 as it only goes to 4 or 5 stops, so really early mornings and really late evenings works great when there's a lot of light. Overcast and/or woodland works much better though Cheers, Jimmy

Without a doubt, the OM5 is the most fun camera that will make you smile in the face of any challenge. It is also an ideal companion for every day and everywhere. I love it. To which we add its excellent image quality, achieving exceptional results in combination with its Live ND and handheld HR shooting. I can't live without her...😅

Great video, I am enjoying my OM5, lot of camera for the money. I still have my Nikon FF, but for fun I always grab this one. Would also love to hear what lenses you are using.
@jimmywestphoto
@jimmywestphoto Месяц назад
Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm glad you're enjoying the OM-5-definitely a lot of camera for the price, and it's so fun to use! As for lenses, my go-to is the 12-45mm f/4 PRO, which is on my camera 98% of the time. It’s super sharp, compact, and versatile for pretty much any situation. I also picked up the 40-150mm f/4-5.6 (affectionately known as the 'plastic fantastic'), which is great when I need that extra reach. And I got the 45mm f/1.8 as part of a bundle when I bought the OM-5-tried it out a bit, but haven't found It's use just yet. 45mm is equivalent to 90 in FF so I guess it'd work good as a portrait or maybe even street. But yeah, my 12-45 sits on the camera most of the times.

I've just stumbled upon your video. I like you tips. BBF I've used before, but I never got really used to it. I am going to try it again. One thing I saw someone else suggest, is to always shoot in RAW, but to set the viewfinder to show Black & White to help train your eye to see contrast better by setting picture mode to Monochrome. I also turn off Live Boost so that the viewfinder/LCD screen show what the sensor will see rather than boosting them and not getting a good gauge on what the image will look like.

Ah, that's interesting actually. Will give it a go next time I'm out! Thanks for the tip 🙏

Hi Jimmy I have the EM5 mkiii which is the same body as the OM5. I recently bought the Olympus hand grip from MPB at a very reasonable price and it certainly improves the handling when using the longer lenses. Not as good a grip as that built into the EM1 mkii. I don’t keep it on the camera permanently as it defeats the point of having a ‘small’ body camera.
@jimmywestphoto
@jimmywestphoto Месяц назад
Oh nice! Is it the ECG-5 grip? I actually got one of those when I bought the camera but ended up selling it actually. I just love the small size of the ”og” body 😄
@alangamble3236
@alangamble3236 Месяц назад
@@jimmywestphoto yes it’s the ECG-5……. I initially had a third part grip that included the arca base but I just did noti like it in the hand. The Oly Grip is tailor made. But it is annoying in that it has to be removed to change the battery…….a minor issue for me personally. Incidentally the Oly grip for the EM10 mkii was a much better design as it can clip on and off the body for battery access.

Nice video have you had any issues with the flaps covering the usb, weather sealing etc , mine won’t stay in place 😊
@jimmywestphoto
@jimmywestphoto 2 месяца назад
Hi! No, not really I haven't experienced anything like that this far. Is there any dirt in the "fitment" or anything like that? Otherwise I'd contact OM System and see what they say, maybe they can send out new ones or something 🙂
@alangamble3236
@alangamble3236 Месяц назад
@ willgreig. I have the EM5 mkiii and the flaps are no where near as secure as those on the EM5 mkii or the EM1 mkii. I have taped mine closed as I reared use them. I also added support to the thumb rest which I understand to be prone to peeling off.

hi jimmy beautiful photos. Have you edited the photos? If so, what did you do to them and with what?
@jimmywestphoto
@jimmywestphoto Месяц назад
Hey there! Yes, I have edited the photos. I'm shooting RAW 99% of the time, but it happens I shoot pure JPEG as well and those times I only use the In-camera settings to get the JPEGs as I want them to. I've been using Lightroom Classic mostly but I'm slowly going over to Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) because I think it works faster and better. Mostly what I do to my photos, even though I change my style here and there, is making them warmer most of all, but I mainly try to enhance what's already there. I rarely add anything, like brightness. Let's say I photograph a stone and there's shadow on one side and sun on the other, I'd probably use a brush or radial filter on the sunny part of the stone, increase the brightness(exposure) a tad bit, increase the warmth(white balance) and then use a brush on the shadow and make it a tad bit darker, to make a nice contrast. Hope this answer help☺ Jimmy

If only there was a small weather sealed pro prime to match OM-5. Now it is pointless - great camera, but in order to actually use it in hard environment, you need big and bulky lens. A missed opportunity.
@jimmywestphoto
@jimmywestphoto 11 дней назад
@@alexmaccape8411 very true! I know there is a 25(?) leica panny that’s weather sealed but I’m not sure how big it is 🤔
@alexmaccape8411
@alexmaccape8411 11 дней назад
@@jimmywestphoto yes, true. However, since we have strongly sealed - and actually IP-rated - OM-5 body, it’d need a matching lens with IP-rated sealing as well, and should also have same IQ as other pro lenses in Oly/OMS lineup. Also, some functions of the camera body are not working when used non-pro lens or Pansonic lenses, like focus stacking. If I buy a camera, I want it to work properly, which is not the case with Pana 25mm. Sure, we have 20mm f1.4 pro, which is awesome lens, but not a small one by any means. Look at Fuji XF 27mm pancake for example.
@jimmywestphoto
@jimmywestphoto 11 дней назад
@@alexmaccape8411 Yeah, you're right. It'd be awesome having a prime around 17-25mm in PRO (pancake), it'd be almost pocket size, so easy to carry around. Currently I'm looking at the panny 1.7 20mm (mark 2).
