These moves are actually insane in 600 ELO. At least 1% of the time.

As a washed 1900 (1500 now 💀) I felt the pain of every move in the first game. Even after you traded the rooks you could’ve blocked the king getting around your pawns and gain time or at least get a draw.

Ok, first game: 0:15 It's the King's Gambit. Very popular in the 19th century, nowadays more rarely played, but you see it from time to time. Taking the pawn is the main line, however black can find themselves at the receiving end of a vicious attack if their defense is lacking. So if you want to play it safe you can decline the gambit with d6 rather than f6. 1:51 Such a "pin with the pieces reversed" is called a skewer. It would be good if the piece behind your Queen was a rook or at least not protected. But in this situation white just gets to exchange a bishop for your undeveloped knight if he wants that. 2:39 I think I'd have taken the d-pawn. 2:56 There were no free checks or anything. So it lost time and aligned your King with their rook. 3:41 Nah, still winning and trading down into a winning pawn endgame is not stupid. You just unfortunately misplayed the pawn endgame. Rule of thumb: If you have a passed pawn (here your c-pawn) in a pawn endgame, use it. Either with the goal of promoting the passer or use it as a distraction and sacrifice it at an oppotune moment. So here c5 is what I would play. After c5, it could continue like this: a) *1.Kb5 Kd5 2. Kxa5 Kc6* Now the king is blocked in on the a-file. *3. Ka6 c4 4. Ka7 c3* If 4. Ka5 Kc5 to not let the white king get to your pawn. *5. Kb8 c2 6. a5 c1=Q 7. a6 Qa8* Now both 8.a7 and 8. Kc8 are answered with Qh8#. If 8. Ka7 Kc7 9. Ka8 Qxa6# and after 8. Ka8 Qxa6+ 9. Kb8 Qb7# or b) *1. Kc3 Kd5 2. Kd3 c4+ 3. Kc2 Kd4 4. Kd2 c3+ 5. Kc1 Kc4 6.Kc2 Kb4 7. Kd3 Kxa4* Sacrificing the pawn on c3. *8. Kxc3 Kb5* If the white king tries to stop the a-pawn now it gives you enough time to move your King over to the g-file and win with the g-pawn. If the white King moves away from the a-file you push your a-pawn. As I said, unfortunate. Second game: 5:32 I agree, undeveloping the bishop is not good. Maybe rather Nc3 developing the knight. 7:43 1.Bc5+ Ke6 2.Rd6+ Ke5 3.Rxh8 winning the rook instead of trading. Nice games. Play the endgame through to understand it. Pawn endgames are important, but deceiving. One wrong move or a wasted tempo can be fatal. So loss in game 1 might be tragic, but can be an important lesson.

Hi trews! It's time to take out a pen and a notebook 0:15 Ah, makes a lot of sense. Somehow I'm going with the f-pawn again. Against your previous tips... 😅 1:51 Skewer, noted. I've heard that before actually. Yeah, I think it was better for me if he went for the trade, in general if I see that the opponent can develop a piece that is undeveloped with a trade I try to avoid that myself. 2:39 Truue, with the knight I assume 3:41 My endgames are usually kinda weak and I lose focus sometimes and play careless. Also I'm still bad with time management and I'm usually very low on time so that doesn't help either. Thanks for the breakdown. 5:32 Yep, that knight move seems solid enough. 7:43 That's a nice tactic, maybe some day I'll start to spot them... 🙃 Thanks for the tips again! It's like having a coach because you are so passionate about the game and your tips are easy to understand 😄

Just watched the second game. 5:24 Best move is Nc3. Your bishop is the only piece defending the d4 square. Bc1 allows Qd4+ followed by a6 kicking out the bishop. You’re still winning in this position but you lose a bit of positional advantage.

2:08 Rge8 is just better than Rde8 because you get your rook out of the corner. 2:32 Qg5+ leads to mate in a few moves if I’m not mistaken

It makes me uncomfortable how pop culture equates being good at chess with being smart. I was at the bar the other day and this bloke was doing card tricks in front of me. Blew my mind he'd obviously been honing this for years. But nobody's going to be like 'wow this guy's really smart look at these card tricks.' 'I tried to do a top cut but i messed up i guess im too dumb.'
@rapidtechhelp4508
@rapidtechhelp4508 27 дней назад
Yes, doing card tricks (requires sleight of hand and experience) and playing a game that requires high intelligence and logical thinking are exactly the same thing. I hate pop culture also but i dont think you are right

Most big chess players think you’re right (Levy and Bobby Fischer have said chess is mainly pattern recognition, and that repeated memorization is important.) There’s also a really cool Veritasium video about memory that shows a study that most expert chess players didn’t have a better memory in general than average, but instead could memorize existing chess positions due to seeing them so often. It’s a lot like learning a language.
