There ought to be a law against amateurs touching XEs. You fart the wrong way and you can lift a trace on those boards. People need to learn to solder and desolder on unimportant PCBs before touching something like this. Jon, that was a stellar repair job fixing that mess.
Good timing, I have also a mangled XEGS board. I have at least a brown screen. All ICs are working ones now, but there must still tracing, I need to do.
you know you can take hiassoft's 512k sram mod, and replace the 22v10 with a ATF750C/CL and have a pin compatible chip, looking at his schematic it seems you can easily get a Meg of ram using another 512k and pin8 on the gal as a chip select and split the meg in two 512k pages, you can just replace the extra ram in the atari with parallel flash as that still has faster access time than the stock dram and no wait for refresh, only requires a program sequence, so may be faster than dram but a little slower than sram.... needs no battery to back it up you can just use a SST39LF040 instead of sram, or use ATF2500C and hook an SST39VF640xB, but have to kinda waste 8 bits since it uses a 16bit data bus, or you can use a ts3l501e to fix dat and use all 16bits and kinda pipeline dat memory into dat atari....use 128k-512k sram for base 64k + xe ram, and use flash for paged ram, cuz ya know if you use 512k or 8 meg flash for all ram, its gonna suck when you cant hard reset after you crash or hang your computer
