Stalin ruled from 1923 to 1953. He never lost a war and won WW II against Nazi-Germany, whom he had helped from August 1939 to 16th of June 1941 to start WW II against Poland, France, etc. The stupid criminal Hitler could only rule from 31th January 1933 to 30zh April 1945. As a photographer, I had to know the history of film. During many wars, the cost of film and cameras was enormous, but it was also known that history would be preserved better than recording history on a rock or cave wall. In today's digital era, photos cost nothing, but the eye is the advantage. I just wanted to let you know there's no need for a professional photographer.

Watching this and other documentaries makes me worry about the health of the world's democracies. Democracy is our best defense against such homicidal geniuses as Hitler, and we have seen a strong tendency for those in democracies to be influenced by would be authoritarians. Even a country as progressive and democratic as 1920s Germany can wake up in a dictatorship.
Democracies also kill civilians. US and UK bomber killed 800k civilians in german cities. USA murdered 200k japanese with the 2 nuclear bombs. Even in 2003 USA caused 1 million cilvil deaths the iraq war. And so on...

Our every desire, thought and action operates according to the calculation, “How can we receive what is most beneficial to us and reject what is harmful?”

Lo que me queda luego de ver este documental es una especie de silencio pesado en el estómago. Escuché testimonios en carne viva; y esas imágenes... Lo que espanta es el preciso y cuidado mecanismo que empleó un ejército disciplinado para el exterminio de judíos, rusos, disidentes, homosexuales, gitanos..., y su propia gente muy vieja o con discapacidad.
