A memorial service for former Penn State's head football coach Joe Paterno marked the end of a week of remembrances on January 26, 2012. Thousands gathered to pay tribute to the coach many said built more than a football team.

Watching this a year later, itstill makes me cry. One year ago today Penn Staters across the nation lost the greatest man. It was and still is a tough loss.We remember Joe Paterno for the man that he was and forever shall be, 409 wins who made Penn State a better place to be, not all of the crap that you hear on the news. I lost a dear friend of mine on this date last year. R.I.P Coach Joe Paterno. You will never be forgotten! We love and miss you!

This is my first time watching this video after all these years. Joe Paterno is and was an amazing and extra special man, coach and mentor to millions. His influence was far reaching. He will never be forgotten. He left a mega huge legacy. To those of you who hated him didn't know him. Those of you who hated him could only wish you were one-onethousandth of a man he was and leave a mega far reaching legacy he left. I and countless others love and miss Joe Pa + thank you Mrs Paterno. Thank you to whomever posted this video, very informative.

Joe died of a broken heart, not because he was guilty of a coverup, but because he dedicated his life to his team, his university, and his community, and he had it all wrenched out of his hands without any say whatsoever

@@andrewcrane9925 except he wasn't, they did a second investigation that proved he took the necessary steps (which at the time was to report the incident to campus police and the athletic department) to remove himself from any implication in a coverup

Since apparently some dumb Alabama fan deleted their comment it's worth pointing out that Louis Freeh interviewed exactly zero key witnesses for the Freeh Report and he was fired as director of the FBI for similar incompetence

@@kingofrunescapepking Legally you are correct. But morally, when Sandusky wasn't jailed, he should've seen to it that the people above him actually did their due diligence. Or frankly, he should have called the police himself.

Actually he died of cancer. He was guilty of not acting to stop the child molesting, however anyone pretends otherwise.

***** oh really? there is some evidence that he contacted someone on campus police (schultz) , but according to JP's testimony and depositions submitted into evidence for the trial, he delayed contacting them so not to "interfere with their weekend" Neither Curley nor Schultz reported it so it went nowhere. and it wasn't for almost 10 years later that anything was done. You don't consider that looking the other way?
@clarencebirdseye8339

b There was nothing to report. McQueary said he saw nothing. Sandusky said nothing happened. Allen Myers said nothing happened. Sandusky was found not guilty on that charge. NOTHING HAPPENED. McQueary only started cooperating with the prosecutors 10 years later because they convinced him that another boy was abused by Sandusky and that changed McQueary's view of what happened 10 years earlier. And McQueary was vulnerable at that point, he thought the police were questioning him about sending a picture of his penis to a Penn State coed. He was more than willing to help the investigation to shift the focus away from what he did.

Rocket - I'm just curious what you find so offensive in the comments in general. You give praise to a man based on his coaching, and others find him offensive because he put the silly game of football ahead of what he KNEW was happening to younger students, a total absence of ethics on his part. So . . . what, exactly, are you going to report?? You, "pal," are not the only one who can report an account, you, "clown," are out of line. So chill.

In November 2011 when the sandusky story broke, I turned to my wife and said, “joe will be dead in a year, he knew everything!” Surprise, surprise that devil only lasted two months. May he rot in hell with all who have hurt children.

Joe paterno was a great coach and a good man, unfortunately he was an old school guy and a person he considered a friend took advantage of his friendship. It easy to understand some of the awful comments from quite frankly miserable people they never had a real friend. I mean the world is going to end I need help kind friend that's the kind of friend Joe paterno was. He simply could not believe a friend of his could do that and sadly we know Sandusky did and when confronted with very credible evidence he reported to the university president or athletic director and police I believe? Joe paterno found out who his "friends" were and iam very sad he did, he died and the world is a little worse off because he is gone.

I agree that he was a false idol but he did NOT get off too easy. He was made into a scapegoat for the entire conspiracy and then died of a broken heart a month later and that took the stink off the real authorities that covered up this conspiracy. Joe was not perfect and he damn sure is not the "beacon of integrity" like some people say but he was not an evil man.
