I love the reactions to this song. Verse 1: "That's good advice! Listen to the pearls of wisdom!" Verse 2: "...okay, but there are exceptions." Verse 3: "Yep, that's the stuff right there."
Point: Never mess with a mans family and/or his woman or children, also never underestimate the wrath of a mother if her children are attacked or hurt. Watch your back!
His dad said, walk away IF you can. Tommy couldn't walk away this time. What those 3 guys done to his Becky was unforgivable. Tommy could no longer turn his away his cheek. The song gives very good advice. Don't get involved in fights, but Tommy reached his limit. Sometimes you have to fight. Good reaction Metal Heads. I got to tell you, I despise Metal and Rap. I'm strictly a country fan, but I do listen to some other music many times. Have a pleasant evening. BTW, you assumed right what those 3 guys done to Becky. I really liked your reaction. 👍❤. You deserve a 🌹.
Might not be worse if it were you, I have read that this is based on a true story. The first brother died from a crushed larynx when the first attack hit him in the throat, not a quick or pleasant (if disserved) way to die. The fellow Tommy was based on was found innocent.
Except it wasn't. _"Billy Edd Wheeler had success as a songwriter with The Kingston Trio's "Reverend Mr. Black" (#8, 1963) and the Johnny Cash song "Blistered" (#50, 1969). In 1979 he got a call from Roger Bowling, who co-wrote Kenny Rogers' hit "Lucile." They set out to write a story song, and Wheeler had an idea for an underdog tale. "For some strange reason, I was thinking of My Fair Lady, he said in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Country Music. They took this little cockney girl from the poor part of England and were going to make her over and teach her how to speak and be like a princess."_ _The plan shifted when Bowling came up with the title "Coward Of The County," which had great alliteration. They started thinking about why this guy would be labeled as such, and came up with the story of his dad dying in prison and telling him, "You don't have to fight to be a man."_ _"We were trying to figure out how Tommy, the son, would have a change of heart," said Wheeler. I had him in church praying to his father or getting a vision."_ _That got too complicated, so Bowling suggested that Tommy take down his father's picture from the mantle to communicate with him. They finished the song in a weekend and made a demo that they pitched to Rogers, who recorded the song._ _The evil brothers in this song are the "Gatlin Boys." In real life, Larry, Steve and Rudy Gatlin were a popular trio_ [which famously, Roger Bowling held a personal grudge against for unknown reasons.] _who performed as "Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers." Not only that, Larry Gatlin had dated a girl named Becky, which was the name of Tommy's girlfriend in the song._ _"After it came out, we started getting accused of being rapists," Larry Gatlin said. "I think they could have showed a little good taste and used somebody else's name."_ _The songwriters made the dubious claim that the name was chosen because they "liked the sound of it," and that it had nothing to do with the actual Gatlin brothers. "We tried some other names like the Barlow boys, but they just didn't have the grit of the Gatlin boys," Wheeler said._ TL;DR: completly made-up story whose villains are, in a dick move, named after a rival country trio.
That's what most country singer/story teller is all about. You are sent one direction, then abruptly, you do a sharp turn in the other direction. You agree with the father in most cases, but then, circumstances throw you in another direction.
I was raised on country music and Kenny has always been my favorite (along with Dolly). I cried when I found out he died. This song has always given me chills in the best way possible, and I always smile when he says Tommy turned and locked the door, because I know the Gatlin boys are about to get what's coming to them. Lol
Yes. It should be the video if he can post without copyright issues. Reba packs so much information in songs like “Fancy” and “The nights the lights went out in Georgia” that it’s best to have The music video to follow or have the lyrics available while listening to them.
Here's a couple of upbeat songs for you that no one has ever done. Ricky Van Shelton - CRIME OF PASSION and Barbara Mandrel - I WAS COUNTRY WHEN COUNTRY WASN'T COOL. Collin Raye - THAT'S MY STORY
If you wanna explore more country, try Marty Robbins-El Paso(or Big Iron), Steve Earle-Copperhead Road, Waylon Jennings-Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way, The Highwaymen-Highwayman, Johnny Cash-basically anything, Charlie Daniels Band-Devil Went Down to Georgia, Hank Williams Jr-I Got Rights, Chris Knight-Down the River
Whenever I hear the last bit of this song where he locks the door I always think about the scene from a Bronx tale where the mafia boss locks the door and says "Now yous can't leave"
My husband did Ruby! He did all of Kenny's songs! I love these reaction videos, seeing people SEEING what country music is about! There is a lot of country I don't like, the really old stuff! Too twangy for me! I grew up on that stuff! I like Lucille too!
Kenny Rogers is not around anymore. Have to watch him and Lionel Richie together. They were besties and Ritchie wrote Kenny's song, Lady. Their duet is great.
There are several great country songs having to do with the attack on 9/11: Toby Keith, "Courtesy of the Red White & Blue"; Alan Jackson, "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning". (There's another one I can't recall right now, sorry)
Love when you react to country! Kenny ,RIP, has a song called THE GREATEST (also known as the baseball song). Please check out the video. It's a great story!
If you haven't already heard it check out Kenny Rogers in old rock band before he became country star a song called checking in to see what condition my condition is in..
I’ve been watching a bunch of reactions to this, and it was fun seeing one from a reactor in a Maiden T-shirt. I’m a metal head and Maiden is my favourite band. I don’t like a lot of country, but there are a few songs and artists I enjoy. This one ranks high.
I would recommend some Miranda Lambert. Her song Vice is one of my favorites. Also if you enjoy the story telling Sammy Kershaw The Matches is a good one. Great reaction on this one.
Yes Tommy did it right - he didn't Turn the other Cheek - when it mattered the most not to. Tommy proved to everyone he wasn't the coward they thought he was.
Kenny Rogers was the spokesman for the hotel and casino on the reservation I’m from in Lakeside, California. Lucille, the Gambler, Ruby, What Condition My Condition is in, are all good songs of his. Yes the Gatlin boys raped Becky.
I always felt like if Tommy's dad had been alive, and maybe released from prison on parole or something....he would have helped Tommy nail those b*****ds.
❤ if you like that story telling like I do ❤ check out Red Sovine ❤ Red Sovine’s Teddy Bear, daddy’s girl, or Roses for Mama ❤etc. They’re all very good.
Great Reaction!! Enjoy these?, Brooks n Dunn “Hard Working Man” & “Play Me Some Country”; Alabama “40 Hour Week for a Living” & “Roll On 18 Wheeler”; Oak Ridge Boys “Elvira” & Bobbie Sue”; Brad Paisley “I’m Gonna Miss Her & “Little Moment’s “; Carrie Underwood “American Girl” & “Before He Cheats”; “The a house That Built Me” &
React to “remember” by nick nittoli it’s off his new country album : “Songs from out of your mothers country” and it’s on his youtube topic channel! Thanks
What I love about country songs is that they tell stories. If you can, please watch this video of reba .... The Night the lights went out in Georgia. Super Good Video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z4GMUlCBgd0.html
Eh, a chainsaw is an inefficient weapon. It’s heavy, cumbersome, hard to swing around, can be unreliable, and the chain would snag on clothes, skin, and flesh, eventually clogging the chainsaw or yanking it out of your hands. If you’re looking for close-up lethality, a blade of some kind is far more effective. The longer and wider the blade, the more cutting power it has, provided your edge alignment is good. Even a basic hammer is a much better weapon than a chainsaw. Of course, that’s how you end up in prison for murder, or at least assault with a deadly weapon. In this day and age, the best you can do to retaliate against those who have assaulted your loved ones, if you know who did it, is to report them to the authorities and get them sent to prison. You could try to track them down and beat them up, but you might not win that fight, and even if you do, you’re still likely to be arrested for it.
