Randy Travis was in the movie Black Dog with Patrick Sawyze, Meatloaf , if you haven't seen its a great movie , its about an ex-con semi driver ( Sawyze ) driving an illegal guns and gets betrayed by his boss ( Meatloaf)
I have not heard this from the writers, but I have always thought the song has one more layer that was left unspoken- why would a hooker be going to Mexico? To me, the preacher that died saved one more soul when he gave her the Bible, because it stopped her from ending her pregnancy.

@@maggiec3339 A few. It appears that almost all of them have happened to be white. But you can't draw many conclusions. So few reax channels of this type are done by white people that there may be no difference in batting average. And, to be fair, the people on the "black channels" aren't really familiar with how a country song unfolds and have this knack for talking during every single part of a song that is important. I think everyone just shuts down that part of their brain that prevents them from assuming that the preacher is the son of another preacher. The most fun is when they realize something "isn't right" and they start counting on their fingers. Again, though, how many songs have a reveal?

Three Wooden Crosses is my favorite song, but even I can admit that it is a bit sad, so I thought I'd recommend a happier song next. Just subscribed to your channel. Love the in-depth commentary and open-minded approach to try to learn to enjoy a genre you previously were not interested in exploring. For some other deep country songs I would suggest "Me and Little Andy" by Dolly Parton, "Man in Black" by Johnny Cash, "Fancy" by Bobbie Gentry and "Coward of The County" by Kenny Rodgers. Country has many deep songs but I can't list them all. One thing to keep in mind is this: "Country music is three chords and the truth." It's an old quote but it still stands. At it's heart country is about good music, heartfelt emotions and blunt honesty. Can't wait to see you continue your country music journey.

Great review. As many others said I like and can appreciate how closely you listen and pay attention to what you're listening to. I listened to a lot of "Hair" bands and Metal when I was younger, maybe it was because my parents listened to so much country and top 20 type music that I felt I needed to go my own way. OK ... maybe it was more like follow my sister's lead, but as I've gotten older I've made my way back to Country as my "mainstay". Don't get me wrong, I still love what I refer to as "my old-school mix of music genres" too but at this point "my heart is in the country". There are some great stories & messages, and a lot of it comes straight from the heart. Check out Brad Paisley feat. Dolly Parton - "When I get Where I'm Goin'", maybe some Johnny Cash or for a good laugh "I'll never Smoke Weed with Willie Again" Toby Keith/Willie Nelson - My Dad cracked up the first time he heard that one.
Its Still Pretty Sad Randy Isn't Able To Sing Anymore. FYI,Randy Suffered A Terrible Stroke Which Resulted In Him Not Being Able To Sing Anymore & Limited His Ability To Talk. He Ended Up Retiring Because Of It
The whole deeper meaning here is that the preacher left the Bible to the hooker who read it to her son and because of that preacher doing that her son grew up to be a preacher and change other peoples lives as well.
