Yes! Although I started skating at 10, took a break at 12 and came back to it at 15, I didn't start competing until I was 20! While I wish I could have been doing it all along, I'm proud of how far I've come.
I'm really not qualified to answer this, but in this video I'm wearing Riedell 223 Stride, and soon after I replaced those with Risport RF3 Pro. Both are good for single jumps, including axel. The model of Risport is stiffer than the model of Riedell. I recommend talking to a coach or going to a skating specialist or dealer.
