A Modern Coat Rack

What a great design!

I don't know why but I really like this a lot, it is so simple but elegant. This proves the point "the simple ideas are the best" well done

At first, I thought "hey that looks easy" but you put a lot of time into making it nice, and with no exposed hardware. Great job and design!

I liked the design of this a lot, but then the sliding dovetail wall mount was a nice surprise... nicely done!

I love the coat rack! One thing I would change is that I would insert magnets in the back of each coat rack to make sure it stays up, especially when it gets a bit older.

I like the idea of the fold away hangers. Nice little idea.

Cool design Brian. Love the cherry and walnut together. And the dovetail slots for hanging it was pure genius. I want to be just like you when I grow up.....

You have solved the basic problem with the coat rack. They tend o be ugly. Yours is a piece of art!

Love the way you manage to do the sponsorship in a way that's memorable, without being intrusive... and show how versatile the Gripper really is in videos like this. That's the way for companies to go I think... get people to make interesting projects using their tools. :) And this one was really quite awesome, love the take on something that most people would not think of as 'novel' or exciting

I was thinking about making the one in Wood magazine's July issue, but like this a lot more. Contrasting wood and the sliding dovetail mount that can't be seen. Very nice.

Brian, I really enjoy your how to's. I am a new fan of G&G also. Your indent jig was a simple stroke of genius. I have built G&G table and chairs, I get caught with other chores, i am going to do buffet/hutch using as much G&G as I can do, including your indent jig, thanks a ton . Oh, I was hoping you were using some G&G plugs on that snazzy coat rack.

Beautiful choice of woods, finish, design and workmanship! But what keeps the coat pegs so upright and aligned instead of just falling forward with nothing on them?

As I understand it, Instead of putting the angle on your walnut, so when you pull it, it becomes flat to your backboard. You actually put the angle for the walnut on the backerboard like you did on your router table? I just want to be certain. cause if it would've been me. I would've put a flat backborad and put an angle on the bottom of the walnut so when you pull on it, it becomes flat to the backerboard giving that peg alot more strength. But you seem to know what you're doing on it. So is that right. Thats how You do it? And is it really sturdy for several winter coats vests etc? Please let me know. I might want to build one for my mother for Christmas. Thanks

I like the project a lot. There are many ways to do things (that's why woodworking can be fun), but for champfering the backboard, I would have done it with a handplane, or maybe the tablesaw followed by a touchup with the handplane. Alternatively, the jointer could do the job too. Finally, since it is a small 'one-off job, it could be done almost entirely with a handsaw, handplane, and eggbeater dril and a bit of sandpaper.l
