Speedy recovery to Asal. A pity they couldn't play more. I'm not sure why one would want to abbreviate the suspense of a regular tiebreak, where the one then the other gets a game/ matchpoint; drama to be found there: why cut it short with a sudden death?

What a shitty tournament. Not best of five sets ...... short matches.... not difference of two point in game....... Faraq is super boring to watch (Ramy Ashour would dismantle him) ...... this tournament was not fun at all..... rules... everything.

The tournament structure is different from all others indeed. In my mind a welcome variation i.o. a repetition of the platinum events. I hope you can find to appreciate Farag's ability to retrieve ungettable balls and to return balls under pressure with accurate replies. It's not only slamming into the nick that's called for. If Farag will need to, he'll start to. He just doesn't. Ramy was magic but not (always) flawless. No use comparing them now.

Why even bother bringing in Ramy? He's long retired. And interesting perspective: Best of 3, sudden death format, yet so many players ended up injured. I think a best of 5 we wouldn't even see a SF in this end of season tourney.

When I watch Farag I think of his comment elsewhere: "“You want to watch an athletic sport, it’s on legs. You want to watch something that requires a very high IQ, you watch chess. We combine both, and in my opinion, bring the most beautiful sport in the world.” He moves really well on the court, hits very tight shots, and is very smart.

The PSA has been trying to implement a best of 1, game to 3, at 2-2 they flip a coin.
