FYI - FiiO also sells their own linear power supply - the PL50 - that is compatible with the the R7 (and also the M17, K7, K5 Pro, and certainly many other branded devices that have the same power requirements). It’s in the US$150 ballpark, but can sometimes be found a bit cheaper.
Good luck finding the fl50. Any recommendations besides the one external supply linked? I really dont want to splic ends on it if I can just buy a good power supply in $150 or below range
Ok now I want to get this. I’ve been wanting a music server for my home system for the longest. Especially to use ROON with. If I could get this, hook up my external HD to it and control everything thru an app on my phone for under $1k I’m sold!!!
The best part is-i get my k9 ess and like after about 6 days fiio rolled out this boy, and i was like-alright. This thing is like k9, but better, in many instances. This DOES cannibalize on k9 alot. And it's cost less.
@@ZReviews Yep, and then it will become semi-important to distinguish “K9” vs “K9 Pro”, instead of just saying K9 all the time. Mind you, I’ve seen the new K9 (only) specs, and it is damn near identical to the K9 Pro ESS model. Slightly different DAC (ES9068AS x2 (same as R7, although the R7 only has 1 DAC chip, not 2) instead of ES9038PRO x2), no USB-C connector, a *smidge* less amp power. Really identical otherwise (OK, no gold/silver trim on the knob, if you want to be extra picky).
I understand that with any Android device no matter the original bit rate/depth a streaming service is playing music, that Android limits it to 48khz. So that's what the settings are for in the R7, to bypass the Android limited resolution, which then makes whatever is playing into the R7 bit perfect. The R7 setting regarding DSD, makes an incoming signal, like 16bit/44.1khz PCM, and upsamples it to DSD. If you don't change the stock Android audio setting then the max resolution will be 48khz.
Hej i have bought r7 as well as ifi midsd signature (long ago)after watching "z reviews" of them, and the products are awesome!! Now I tried co compare witch is best/better and obviously r7 is more all-in-one, and it is burrbrown vs Ess, but what smashed my brain was combining those two via USB(c->a ifi adapter)so fiio is donor to ifi(bass and 3D on) ->balanced to Audeze-LCD3. Zeos can U confirm that is perfect marriage? Or close to it, in budget range? many thanx Luk😉
@@ZReviews I agree, it probably will. I just thought you might like to know that FiiO makes one… but the argument could easily be made that the RM3 should have been included with the R7 in the first place.
@@anteekoUnfortunately nowadays I find people just aren’t creative especially growing up in a walled garden world and constantly ask dumb questions like “why would I need this?”. Using a stock Android it means I can download any music visualizer app and have a bomb little light show on my desk next to my amp. I could set it next to my computer and have a dedicated listening station I can control to the side while in the middle of a gaming session. It opens up so many possibilities that a dumb box streamer can’t.
fiio makes a power supply called the pl50 3a at 12v, 2a at 15v has all the needed connections for around 120 to 150 i purchased one for my magnious schitt triple stack, unfortunately it doesnt work guess i will have to get a r7 or maybe wait for the supposed r9
You said in the first two minutes that you can control the R7 with the app. My R7 and the Fiio app wont connect. Fioo said it might happen in a future update. How did you get yours to work?
Love your reviews! Value is stellar but sounds like there is some pretty big sacrifices: poor latency and noise floor seem common observations. Latency is what it is but your opinion on noise floor? Anyone?
Have you, or anybody currently owning and using this device, come across the problem of having a pretty decent delay in USB-dac mode? I got this device specifically because of the different modes and feel kind of let down with my experience of noticing quite a big delay in stuff happening in game or video's and only hearing it later. Thanks in advance for anybody commenting :).
Yes, I have been using it for about a week now. USB-DAC mode does add a bit of delay. The delay is at a point that I can notice it, but not a big deal. You may be more sensitive to delay than me. As a matter of fact, Fiio disabled the Bluetooth when using USB-DAC because they didn't want to add more delay than the Bluetooth might have. Hope this gets fix soon with updates.
@juanmillaruelo7647 Hey I'd love to be able to tell you, but I didn't know they were going to (take a chance to) resolve the issue and ended up returning it sadly. Hope you can find the answer you're looking for soon!
What amp should is use for sennheiser hd 560s if im going to use it for gaming looking for an amp thats not to expensive been looking at the fiioi e10k is it wort it?
I really want to get this mainly to use in my vehicle since it have to optical output which I need. Was looking for something with optical output but this is all I can think of.
Hello I am very close to buying the moondrop s8 off your review but noticed it's been a few years since the video came out is there any newer one you would recommend over the s8? Would really appreciate your feedback
I’m still wanting to get those S8 some day myself. But he just did this review and it may be easier to get for the moment ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Iz5kuNuc9_k.html
So sad you can't feed the optical in signal to the optical output signal. Can you feed the coax in to the optical out though? Otherwise the R7 would be perfect.
Any recommendations for Bluetooth headphones under 250$? Looking at ath 50xbt2, but no one talks about them and regular 50x seems to be the bad choice. Any alternatives? Maybe even IEMs if there is nothing good in on-ear category?
I have a set of meze elite but no amp. Can anyone tell me if something like this fiio r7 or fiio k9 pro would be good, or should i go with something more expensive lika naim uniti headphone edition?
Hmm, I think there is a smudge on you lens, lol hey great review, I saw this and was like this is cool little all in one thing, thanks for going through everything, it is really cool, not sure if I need it, but really cool!
I love everything about this....Except the DAC chip used. FiiO makes a power supply BTW. (FiiO PL50 High-Quality Low Noise Regulated Linear Power Supply (US VERSION) Apos has this available for pre order and I almost got it because of the feature set but the Gustard X26 pro is what I want most atm. Just waiting for a good deal. Great review.
@@ZReviews I've tried both, and I fully agree. Did touch all weird place on my ear, but it was still very soft, so was comfy. Don't fully know long term, as I only got to try them for a bit
There's that angled pad included that can be stuck to the bottom to point it up a little. Could always buy a Kanto angled desk stand too :D You can also re-program the three buttons on the bottom to anything, like play/pause, next track etc.
I can't be the only one who's annoyed at the fact that they decided to put TWO RCA outputs and NO RCA inputs, so this wonderful unit is left with no analog sources to draw from. Big missed opportunity
@@ZReviews The degradation part might be true but if anyone is looking to buy a unit like this, they're probably trying to make this into the main music hub in their house. And people who care so much about their music probably own a few vinyls... and record players only output analog signal A bit niche but vinyls Have been making a sort of comeback as of late. I suppose FiiO is not exactly catering to that market with this unit
HI mr Z reviews what is a good pairing for a Low impedance headphone 7hz timeless or Verum 1 some reviewers mentioned that the wrong pairing can result in Hissing Any thoughts Iam just a beginner I just might go with the Anissa Kate: Cum for me made by the maker of the verum 1 MK2 which was the SCHITT stack M something stack with the M something. I wanted to support Geshelli labs family owned usa company but have no idea if that is a safe pairing for Low Impedance headphones not really know what Iam talking about but Iam think Iam asking relevant questions LOL
Sometime later this year FiiO is supposed to be releasing matching powered speakers for the R7 called the SP3. Also, I’m gonna say the same thing I said to you at CanJam. You should’ve held on to the Q7!😉
They also have an accompanying full sized headphone with a 60mm beryllium driver that they just released called the FT3 ($299.99). I admit to having one on the way with great shame…..😳
