Livey Van Wyk, 31, has come a long way from being a left-to-die pregnant and HIV-positive teenager to becoming a fulfilled mother and an influential and inspiring young mayor who is the pride of her native Namibia. Her life tells a powerful story of courage and hope, in which UNICEF played a crucial role to help her not only survive, but also thrive.
Livey believes that, today, it is still critical to give young girls and boys the same support that she was able to benefit from as a teenager. “Definitely, my hope is for an HIV-free generation. Nothing is impossible. We can make it - especially when we have hope.”
UNICEF works to ensure that all babies, children, adolescents and their mothers are able to access life-saving HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. It engages with partners around the world, and promotes rapid integration and expansion of HIV education and care in maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health services.
Every time you help a child survive and thrive, THERE IS HOPE.
For every child, hope.
