Thank you for your clear presentation and depth of your knowledge, please include more of Iran map, considering that you are talking about the different cities that the Persian rugs originate from
Your presentations are always perfect! I enjoy them so much, they are informative and clear and professional. Great job and thank you for teaching us about the beauty of handmade rugs.
Thank you Mike . Your Persian rugs overwhelm me , and make me feel humble at such artistry and beauty . Is it practical for westerners to travel safely to see these carpets in Iran now ? Possibly in early 2023 ?
What would be the designs that they use the most in Qom rugs and where they were inspired? Also, what would be the oldest qom carpet and why did its manufacture begin?
Well, I can do better....I think... Here is the link to the Qum rug in my site... www.mprugs.com/persian-rugs-carpets/59787-3x2m-qum-persian-rug-silk-900kpsi.php
I was given a 3.5 x5 meter Persian rug that the dealers say is very old and its very warn but no idea what type and from which region, only that its about 200 years old or more. Can I send ohoto of carpet and to which address?
Hi John, Compared to the 80's, we estimate based on our personal experiences that 90% of large or well known workshops are closed for good and that the vast majority of handmade Qum rugs are now being made by individual weavers who are contracted by the previous workshops... Examples would be the Mohammadi and Jamshidi workshops that used to employ dozens of highly skilled weavers and produced hundreds of rugs a year. Now they contract with individual weavers who make the rugs for them in much smaller quantities... This is similar to what we saw happen with the Turkish Hereke carpet weaving culture and while there will always be individual weavers, the concept of walking into a bazaar and seeing thousands of newly handmade pure silk Qum rugs will be a thing of the past once the existing inventories are sold...
Silk is durable, but also very difficult to clean. While I have had clients who place the silk Qum rugs in traffic areas, they are in my opinion better suited for formal rooms or places where there is little traffic with shoes as they often bring outside dirt into homes.
