A narrated cab ride on the WWLR

Join me with a relaxing view from the cab of a journey from Walsingham to Wells one sunny evening in the lock down. Although this journey was shot from Weasel (a diesel) I'll take you through some of the goings on when driving one of the line's garratt locomotives on a heavy passenger train, explain some of the sights from the train and relate a few stories along the way.

Very enjoyable ride along the narration was great with almost a feel of a story about it. I guess the trails and tribulations of steam crews is tale worthy. I do enjoy a visit to wells when I'm in the area but every time the trains have been not running due to poor weather.

Hullo - thanks, there are many more tales to tell! The problem is the wind, a few years ago we introduced a wind speed threshold, this year we found we could ease it slightly so there have been fewer trains winded off. Hopefully they'll be running when you next visit!

Another thing off my bucket list...travelled along the line today from Wells, unfortunately only as far as Wighton Halt due to the CV19 restrictions, but the fare was only £5,00 instead of £9.50 for the full journey. Well done to all involved. Wighton village was used as the location shooting for "Little Bazeley by the Sea" in the 1965 "The Avengers" episode entitled The Town of No Return with intrepid agents Patrick Macnee (John Steed) and Diana Rigg (Emma Peel.)

Hullo, good to hear you made it to the railway, was this on Sunday? If so I was driving! I didn't know Wighton featured in the 1965 avengers! Thanks for the info!

Nice to see the route again, did a stint of guarding I think it was Summer 2000. Weasel was called upon one morning to haul the first (fully loaded) train, and the initial climb out of Wells through the damp cutting was interesting to say the least! Hopefully it has sanders fitted nowadays

Thanks for the comment. The diesels are still less capable than the garratts and there is no functioning sanding gear for fears of wearing out the motion rapidly. Have you thought about guarding again - the railway is in need of more volunteers!

I seem to recall that damp dewy morning was one of the few times we had a pick up at the campsite as well! Am afraid I live a long way away from Wells these days, so it'd be unlikely I'd be available for the foreseeable. I would like to revisit though and bring my little lad for a ride. I know Roy passed some time ago, is Steve with the long hair still part of the Railway?

@@avocet89 Starting away from the Midden Campsite is still a challenge though mercifully rare. Steve moved on from the railway a few years ago now.

Nice idea, but shame the camera wasn't secured so it didn't vibrate. Never mind as I'm sure the video has drawn interest to this lovely line whilst we're in lockdown.
