More than six years after it was first announced, the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in State and Faith-Based Care has released its findings.
It estimates that of around 655,000 people in care from 1950 to 2019, 200,000 were abused
The inquiry, which heard from more than 2,300 survivors, found physical abuse was prevalent, sexual abuse was commonplace. And the abuse and neglect almost always started from the first day a person was placed in care.
