Mark, in the middle 70’s. I was stationed with the Marines at Alpha Company, Marine Barracks, Subic Bay. Nobody loved the Marines at Subic Bay. We were too tough. My experience at Subic Bay was so rewarding for my military career.
I gotta agree with the guy that you need to personally see each place yourself before making any decisions on where you want to live or even if you want to stay.
Electronics are our best enemy. We functioned fine without them. Now we can’t live without them. Electronics babysit kids at 3 years old now. By elementary most kids have phones. Kids don’t play and explore outside anymore. By middle/high school kids aren’t engaged teachers aren’t teaching. These phones are grooming (programming) kids. It’s like a drug. Try taking away a 12-16 year olds phone. Electronic have made us lazy and do all our thinking for us. Next 10-50 years are going to be interesting. In a sense electronics probably play a big role in society failing. People love their phones more than they love one another.
Great interviewer. My advance to this man is brother please take care of your health. Try if possible to lose some excess weight. Kidney, liver, heart problems can just rapidly sneak up on you in retirement. Were all going to die but no use dying unnecessarily especially if your starting a cool retirement in asia. Put your health as your biggest priority brother.
Everything is going up here in the States, rent, grocery, gas and electricity and for homeowners like us, the county has raised our assessment on our property. We cannot afford to retire here and we are blessed to have a couple of houses and properties in the Philippines where we will retire where we are close to family and relatives and friends. Yes, if you are a foreigner wanting to spend your retired years in the Philippines, you need to visit and live for a short time to check out whether that's where you want to put your stakes down.
What is the story behind folks from the VA being around there? Who? Why? etc.....I think that you are correct about the military folks adapting; but only those that have been overseas in their careers.
