Respectfully it is. And it's crazy since there's multiple of other things that have diversity in remakes like Hamilton. Also not everything needs to have a supermodel in it to be a great film
@@Mimi7_heartWhy the heck are we paying if we get to see a ugly black girl playing Juliet? There are many beautiful black girls too, but blonde fits well in movies like this."
@@suadzakaria926 like I said other things with diversity do the same thing. And the director said the film wasn't fully accurate to the actual Romeo and Juliet and in the play if you look at the cast most are of colour, it's 2024 things are going to change when it comes to remakes.
@@Ironhart they did that on purpose. To stir up a controversy. They used that poor girl as a scapegoat. Even the ugliest person can be made to look good with makeup and camera tricks. In her case it looked like they made her look worse than she really is.
Juliet was an Italian girl (born in Verona, Italy). Her house is a tourist attraction even now. She was never black and she was touted to be a very beautiful girl. If a black person is to be casted as Juliet she should be at least beautiful in the standard of beauty in that era even if her skin is black
Yall need to grow up fr it’s a play in ENGLAND you probably will never see the play in the first place soo why’re you mad. You clearly know nothing about theatre cause if you did you would know that it doesn’t see colour or gender for that matter it’s all about the directors creativity and the actors talent not who looks the best or is the whitest. thats what Shakespeare wrote his plays for. Juliet wasn’t even played by a woman make it make sense. Yall care too much about looks let people do their jobs omds if you don’t like it don’t go and watch it.
No...this is not because she is black...is because is not accurate...at least the production could have get a more beautiful one. This was done on purpose to drive publicity.
@@George-jc3mtbeing a good actress does not mean she's automatically the right person for the role, Hollywood with never make an originally black character white EVER. The real story was in Italy so juliet would not be black and I highly doubt that she was the only option. If they wanted diversity then they should make more black characters, not purge the classics.
Juliet was a white woman, imagine black panther was played by a white man, imagine the Nelson Mandela movie is played by a white man. Juliet was from Verona Italy god damn it. Its not racist to point facts.
@@blobbytheblobfish9341 No she is a real person who lived in Italy. You can find Juliet’s balcony in Verona, Italy. And you can find their real houses too.
@@sassyhassy missy, you being everywhere wouldn't change the fact that she was picked due to DEI. And before you even say we just don't like it cause she's black, b*tch, I watched all versions of SIX and Hamilton and I loved it.
@@spike2227 Well... I don't want to pretend that it's not a big possibility that she is a diversity hire. We live in a shit society where people of colour almost aren't hired for how talented they are anyway. Sorry this might take long. Have you ever thought of the old days? Like the 1900s all the way down to 1980-ish? Coloured people were popular because of their talent, almost all the time, at least more than now. Not because of their skin. She might have been hired for diversity, but I'll wait till I see a clip on RU-vid to judge, if people are indeed allowed to film a bit in the theatre. I hate society. Especially as a black woman who is pushing through school to be the best. Everybody will see me as a diversity hire. I think my goal is to prove I'm not. Diversity hiring is racist against white people who may have more qualifications imo.
The problem is not that she is black. There are beautiful black people. They just had to pick an actress that looks like my maid to create drama and racism among people. It’s not fair that some people are very good looking and some aren’t. We have to face reality and the cast for Juliet is horrible! This is just being plain honest and I’m sure I speak for almost everyone. The minor group that wants to be goody two shoes. That’s very nice of you but deep down you are not being honest 😅
I dont think people hate her because shes black. They hate her because Juliet is supposed to be attractive and dreamy. Like you remember when you were young and you first saw romeo and juliet? How you imagine being romeo for juliet. Now the woke people cast her as Juliet and deprive the new generation of those feeling.
@asa-qz9zl isn't romeo supposed to be attractive too Tom Holland is below average but you are not complaining. No woman is saying tom Holland is not the dreamy romantic interest they imagined. You'll be fine
@@somtoobiorah206 It's not about skin color. It's about her face which looks manly and unhygienic and it's about her hair who looks like a movie character Predator. So don't play "race card", asshole.
What makes people pissed off is that Romeo and Juliet were originally white, why did they have to swap Race? The problem is not black/white but it just doesn't match the original story🤦. No way I remember that one person on Instagram really said "romeo and ksi" 😂
Be honest, its isn't about being black, well a little but the're forgetting the damn story, juliet is supposed to be so pretty that romeo couldn't bear to live a life without her, she didn't look like fkn mark henry
It’s a Shakespeare play. William Shakespeare was a white English man. I doubt he that he thought of Juliette as black as he created the character. Oh well, let’s see how it goes. 😊
@@F-HB-uj6wt nope unfortunately he didnt and at the time there were black people living in italy like he litterally wrote othello at the end of the day julliet should be played by a teenage boy since this was how shakespear casted them
Why does every new movie these day have to have a black. I am not trying to offend anyone but like the new mermaid movie, SNOW WHITE movie??!?!? And now Romeo and Juliet. Is this a political thing or something? But anyway i am hyped for the play 😊
This casting of Romeo & Juliet is a beautiful symbolic way to address this whole argument on a metaphorical level. Might actually be intentional and thus making this ‘controversy’ spotlighted even more. I think it’s actually GENIUS
I just find it weird how everyone says “Shakespeare is relevant across history and across cultures” until it comes to casting poc and then it’s “no but it’s not accurate to the original play”. If it were accurate to the original play Juliet wouldn’t be played by an Italian woman, she’d be played by an English man, because women couldn’t be actors in Shakespeare’s time. Romeo and Juliet have been modern day teenagers and Manhattan gang members and garden gnomes, having a black Juliet is the least significant of changes.
In the Romeo and Juliet story, Juliet is ALWAYS a white girl. people get mad and the people who get mad are accused of being racist. At least find an attractive African-American actress for Juliet.
As someone who was born and raised in Verona, in the same city where the story of Romeo and Juliet was set, I find it strange to see Juliet played by a black girl. No offense, but imagine a white British man playing Martin Luther King or an Arab woman playing Queen Elizabeth. A good portrayal of a story in film format requires actors who can portray the characters accurately.
Then also why not make a Black character white ??? It'll be offensive again am i right. It's so unfair it's not like i haye black people they are funny af and i love them but not when people start using them to replace a white character and it feels like they're like "let's make them black and if someone complain they'll be called racist that's good"
I dont think race matters for plays because its truly just who can do the lines better and project their voice. In all of my school plays they dont pick for race either and also for large productions (Hamilton wasnt race accurate). I also think people are being more critical because Tom Holland is in it, so its getting more attention.
Shakespeare's Juliette was Italian from the Renaissance 16th-century when there were no Africans in his works, and therefore, the new production is not authentic.
if people are this divisive about a black juliet then they got the casting right because this what the play is about; two families who cant put their prejudices aside because their kids are in love
You know what? You’re right! Clearly she did better in her audition than the other actresses! I saw they make a Latina Princess and the Frog! And make Black Panther a white guy too! 🤗
"Its 2024, we gotta grow up" Thats doesnt mean you change the fucking story which is clearly set in 1500s europe. Now dont tell me that there were black nobles in 1500s europe
