Well, all those components aren't "copied" from PCs, all those components exist in both PC's and Macs: nobody is copying anything. And secondly, a mac is a lot like a Porsche. Porches have motors and wheels, but they look better, use only the best quality parts, are more expensive, etc. Same with a mac. You pay more for better quality, for better software, for a better interface, for a better service, etc. I mean, not all people are willing to pay more for this, but for many it's well worth it
This is so timely and fantastic video shots. This certainly could change the real estate market tremendously and for the better. It has needed change for a long time. The NAR, like all things that get to big (banks included) they also get to bureaucratic and stuck in their on mesh!!
This is cool stuff, but rarely updated. Over 6 years with no updates in many places. Perhaps in the future many automated drones could cheaply and quickly collect new data to refresh 3D details in maps? If the drones were low enough with very high resolution 360 cameras, perhaps it could even replace Streetview.
Google wants to make our world a better place. Apple wants to fill their pockets. I pick Google. Secondly, Google mapped out pretty much the entire world, themselves. Apple used a pair of APIs (TomTom/OpenStreetMaps)
Man, who do yo think I am? I used custom built computers for years before switching to mac, and I can tell you, there IS a difference in quality. I own a 6 year old macbook still running like a champ, regardless of all the falls, hits and all it has gone trough. In three occasions friends and relatives of mine have seen their computer stop working a year after they bought it. It's the build and design. The materials. The specs might be the same, but there is a big difference in hardware.
Google voice had many of the features Siri does even after Apple's improvements. Google didnt buy that, they designed it from ground up yet again. And they knew people arent as jobless, nor as socially awkward as to talk to their phone (except for weirdos like you) so they didnt focus on it. Then came Apple bragging about Siri with iOS6 right after and how did Google respond? With a VR that completely kicks the hell out of Siri or any other: Google Now. As well as offline voice recognition.
i feel as though google is the crazy over the top inventor of our time, a lot of the things they invent are so extravagant and not all that necessary, fun, but not needed :P
I downloaded the desktop client in hopes of seeing the new 3D maps going too. I can only imagine that they've got different teams for each client... and i'm with you, it is really annoying that there isn't a total parallel between all versions.
Steven Paul Jobs said that he had no shame stealing ideas, as long as he made what he stole better. But Google, on the other hand, COMPLETELY steals ideas, and does not improve on them. Did I say Apple was the first company to create 3D Maps? No, but they were the first to REVOLUTIONIZE 3D Maps. Kinda like Siri. All you Nexus Cows say "Voice control existed far before Siri." True, but Apple was the first of the bunch to REVOLUTIONIZE voice control, with Siri.

- Ummm, Aluminum or Plastic? Titanium or Plastic? - Yes, but you can't build it in the same form factor. Again man, hardware is not just specs. Hardware is also the design and the materials. - I've seen HP's with holes drilled on the bottom so it won't heat. Macs have pretty amazing cooling systems, like iMacs that use convection to aid air flow. My iMac is dead silent. Macbook Airs run very cool - I was speaking laptop. Desktop-wise any computer can last 10 years if you upgrade around a bit.
I think both companies (Apple and Google) hopped on the 3D cities bandwagon at about the same time. I mean how else could they have been announced at the same time? The problem I have with this is the way that Google doesn't want to put it on desktop Google Maps, because they might want to sell more Android devices. I know Apple's doing the same, but I think Google should still cater for their PC users, rather than leaving their PC users in the dust in order to compete with Apple.
Instead of this and many new features I'd like to see a more updated and hi-res maps of the world. There are many many areas (especially in small countries/villages) where the image data is outdated and in most cases detailed zooming is not possible. I understand that some countries don't allow imaging of certain areas but most certainly this doesn't apply to all, right?
- Sorry, should have said laptop. You can't custom power supply a laptop. - Man! Again! I'm telling you. I can have all those parts lying in my desk and work with that. I can have all those parts in a plastic box, or I can have all those parts inside a nice aluminum slick laptop, with a battery that will last more cycles. Hardware is also design and quality. - No. I've opened macs: there's some pretty interesting stuff going in there. They're not that thin and quiet for no reason.
Apple released their maps after Google released their 3d buildings in Google Maps. Apple maps is a blatent copy of Google Maps (It was released a week after and has all the same features). Google earth has always had 3d buildings and google is just bringing that to their apps on ios and android.
I respected the old Apple. Now that Steve Jobs is gone, I fear that Apple will plummet, maybe not in sales or market share, but in vision and legacy. Just like how it did the first time Jobs left Apple. This is a prime example. Instead of staying with Google, which would have provided just as good as a map than they would, they created their own map to compete with it. Two apps that do exactly the same thing; when it boils down to this, we lose sight of the true purpose of competition.
Naah. What we really want now is to travel through street view, like with a car in the same way as the built in Flight simulator in Google Earth. Not much new things that are exciting in Google Earth for a very long time now.
Why is this even a debate? You can see who owns the copyrights to what you're looking at in Google Earth on Desktop - right at the bottom of the screen it tells you when and who they got the images from. Very few images are owned by Google, but who cares?
i will like to have an app on my google earth that shows the story of Earth like glaciations, how Pangea comes to get in different continents and that.. the cretacic extintion.. that will be good stuff to see
and btw I do miss building my own computers (and my wallet does too). All you can really do to a mac is upgrade RAM. HDDs too for MacBooks. But the biggest advantage of Macs is software, which is, after all, what matters.
Nah that doesnt make sense. Google built maps from ground up while Apple just bought it then claimed they developed it giving the original devs no credit. Just like Siri. All Apple does is introduce outdated technology, then plaster "revolutionary" on it, overhype it then sell it for 10 times its cost. Google as you can see from the JB keynote actually did a hell of a lot of work with a simple version upgrade when Apple did basically nothing even though they jumped a generation (5 to 6). iDrones
Google 3d maps and offline maps has been available for a long time, but it was improved and shipped to mobile devices on June 7th. I hate apple fanboys...
Nah, I've got the desktop version, but I still have the old-style 3D models which are different to these ones and are much less detailed. And yes I have updated my Google Eearth :P
Let's put this bickering in to perspective 2005 - microsoft aerial photography launched years ahead of competition (bing maps wikipedia) 2006 - microsoft demo streetside maps (google search - "A Brief History of Bing Maps Streetside") 2007 - first google street view maps cars seen on streets, released later in year (street view wikipedia page) 2009 - yell 3d maps debuts in UK (google search "yell 3d maps") - uses same method google AND apple use 2012 - google and apple are years behind...
I saw a lady with her car door open in a parking lot with a map stretched out across her lap today. She was reading a paper map in order to find where she was headed. THAT IS AWESOME! I might try that again sometime. Oh, those were the days..a paper map.
i use google earth for my job in a real estate appraisal office downtown and was very stoked to see this was being released so fast. then i find out it's only for mobile. how backwards is that...the phone gets the 3d cities before the computer? seriously google come on lol. i need to be soaring over cities on the 26'' monitor at my job, surveying instead of "oh cool it looks crispy clean on my....4.3 smartphone screen..."
Is that the reason iOS 6 gave you the features that Android users had two years ago on Froyo?? Secondly if Android is a copy of iOS, how the heck is it 10 times more advanced than iOS?? Know the difference between Linux and Unix??
No...Apple also cares, world is a better place because of the iPhone, iTunes, iPad, Mac and other Apple stuff I agree that google have better maps but dont say that to apple
I can't believe these comments. I personally chose Apple over Google when I buy products but I do have Apple Fan boys, they don't have a clue what they're talking about and never look at what's on the other side of the fence.
After a little more investigating, I think it makes sense that Android has become the lead platform for Earth, and though Desktop Earth is currently behind (still v6.2.2xx) the new features will come when v7 for Desktop comes out. If anyone has an ETA for that, i'd love to hear it.
what does hating achieve? such over-passionate loyalty based on the company, not on the products or services they provide is one of the single most stupid things you can do as a human. It's irrelevant. pick products from different companies based not on the logo, but based on whether the product is good, and whether it works for you. and if you don't like any of them, make a better one yourself. help drive competition!
