He singlehandedly brought Vanguard back from the brink of cancellation, but because ensuring the long-term viability of Vanguard as a product means fundamentally changing the way they run the game they fired him and immediately went back to doing all of the bullshit that lead to them requiring his services in the first place.
Sucks indeed... what makes me disappointed by Bushi's practices as well is that the NA banlist is a joke because Chronojet and Eva has somewhat fallen out of favor for Willista and Gandeeva instead and those 2 cause a ruckus or always guaranteed to them top. Originally I thought for promos I'll drive to my locals (40 min to 1 hr drive) but reality hits... hard. A bloody plant token is all I got. Then life gets busy and I can't afford a trip for a 2 hour roundtrip. What sucks to be honest is festival collection with Yuika as well as a whole playset of that card can make me not 1 not 2 but almost 3 Pokemon decks that are base rarity while maybe if I get lucky that can get me idk a somewhat relevant deck. Hard to stay in a game where it's just dominated by the same 2 deck versus Pokemon where it's any top 8s or even a rouge deck can top. Really sucks tbh

I love this game and been playing since Break-ride era. And I wanna keep supporting it. But sweet mother of Christ is this getting out of hand. Last time we had this bad of a pull rate issue I recall was the Zeroth Dragons, and before that was the GRs since Amnesty was a required deck for Messiah and yet it was a $50 card, as well as the Excelics bullshit that followed. Sometimes I feel like Bushi’s biggest mistake was making generic cards that multiple decks need, cause they’re apparently really bad at knowing how to distribute them. Cause the issue is they’re printing them the same way, but there’s a SIGNIFICANTLY higher demand for the individual cards now. I hope JP is having similar issues so they can actually encourage some change, cause it’s another issue of a JP company only paying attention to the JP side, which is ironic if what I hear is true that the majority of their Vanguard sales come from the west
You could look at this a couple of different ways, 1. They are trying to kill the game. 2. They are out of touch with the fanbase/players. 3. Bad sets happen and maybe the next one will be better. 4. Its all about the $$$
We will never be able to relive the fun that was Break Ride era or G Era (Girs Crisis- G Next) Ppl can hate G era all they want but its true it brought a lot of new players into the game, heck even the voice actors were playing around that time.
The game is giving me mad Buddyfight vibes at this point. While I loved playing Buddyfight, not only did they back it into a powercrept corner, but the secondary market for cards was abysmal, and instead of balancing it out, they decided to just drop it. I played the original Vanguard up til they released V, then that was my main game (since our locals were just going to be supporting V-Series). I got into D when it was released, but so far D is proving to be somewhat spendy to get into as well. Contrary to what happens in most card games, they can reprint the Effect Triggers in D until they're blue in the face, but they might only drop value for a few weeks, only to go back up again to prices that make even the most casual decks for certain nations cost around $100 or more. When I looked back into Premium cuz my brother was playing, he dropped the $70 on Messiah, and I am totally not willing to do that, so Premium isn't the game for me, lol.
And this is why I find Dear days controversies funny. Yeah, the DLC price is way to much for a video game. But then you see people shilling out so much money for a deck and you go “better than doing that.” Meanwhile, my main game is Digimon and prices there are honestly fine.there’s a few cards which are high priced but they’re roughly 1-2 in a deck or the rest of the deck is pennies.
I'll also admit I'm not really a fan of the Harmonics stride. Most premium games end on the 2nd stride or after. Crit pressure or multiple attacks win the day.
Stuff like this has started to get on my nerves.*no one can just say "go farm locals" when stuff like broken toys is no longer offered and thats IF your LGS got them. I personally think promos should be printed in the following set. Im sure people will go to locals to get cards early or boarderless/foil versions. There is no reason for deck defining cards to be as unobtainable as they are now.
I agree, there needs to be a main set reprint of promos after a reasonable amount of time at the very least. Just to be clear, I no longer am of the mindset of “go farm locals” as I stated in the video 🤙🏻

Imagine if Bushiroad was a not for profit, then we wouldn't see this ugly anti consumer crap. Same for Konami and Wizards. Pokemon and Bandai at least are trying to protect their reputation as non gougers. Thank you for speaking up on this, as those who aren't cosy with Bushiroad and getting freebies from them or aspiring to, we aren't influenced into staying silent and putting ourselves above the game we love. Really like your video, you covered some bits I didn't cover which adds to why as many people need to speak up as possible and shame this practice. The fact you also showed sympathy for rarity collectors is great too, i was turned against when I spoke out as a victim of the Minerva SNR predatory practice (as someone who is a known Genesis collector among other clans), all of these are predatory tactics designed to make people want to keep a deck or collection complete and spend more irrationally to protect the sunk value of their purchase, something a lot of people complain about over cheaper decks but don't know how bad it feels for us. Collecting was never this bad but the window keeps shifting on what is acceptable. They deserve a lot of the crap for the promos considering we are still here when there should have been opportunities to fix it more by now, and i have been more lenient than most on the promo issue because i wanted players going to locals too, but fed up of the predatory opportunities that are born from it and the anxieties players have to face for no reason, show some care for player wellbeing holy shit instead of treating them like sheep to shepherd and piggy banks. I think the Minerva promo is also harder to get ratio wise than older promos due to number of cards in the set. Idk what happened to buying packs to still get promos either.

I will look into it maybe next year. bcs I would love to but we can't quality for worlds :( I have a Visa now though after the stress over worlds where I couldn't get the simpler one because I went to Libya in 2013 lol I have a playset, I almost went for 1-4, 2 I got refunded for because of getting it over and other things I would rather mention on a pm than public, 4 I spoke to them but I lost morale ever since 2 slipped. I have 3. The person with 1 told me he may be willing to part to just me but wanted me to get 2-4, however no promises and no price negotiated and given the damage 2 was doing. I gave up at the time. Lost the window of opportunity because 2 went since to the void. Those numbers ruined the perfect collection I had. Got the bcs and bsf promos too. Valkyrion might be a pain though if people keep prizes as mementos. Have 3, 6, 16 and 45, I pulled 45.

I play the game since BT01 and I agree, the paywall is getting bigger and bigger.... I keep my eye towards Lorcana at the moment. I keep atm just 1 Deck and that's it, it is getting harder to keep updating decks with promos.
I just want to know who at Bushi loves the pull rates of ghost rares so much so keep making much needed reprints/ format staples to have the same amount per case. I love vanguard and it'll probably always be my fav card game unless the bakugan reboot somehow plays like the original anime, but it's getting harder and harder to justify downsizing my vanguard stuff and get into one piece with the yamato starter.
Its honestly gross, 🤮🤮 and the sad part is that i called it a while ago back when the set was first announced. I said, harmonics needed to be a box topper. I'm usually very negative as it is but i really want better for VG. It deserves better and i pray that DF makes a video so it gets out there. And ill definitely will be making a follow up video just to spread the word and sound the alarm to hopefully get things to change.
with bushiroad keeps printing ridelines after ridelines, they should've printed out more reprints for staples and short prints the rideline instead. One of the struggles for new players for getting into Vanguard is the fact that you're struggling to build a new deck because of how hard it is to get the staples. Yea cool new ridelines but dang trying to get 1 deck is hard enough let alone another nation. I mean what's the point of alt rares like sp or ffr if even the regular rrr is hard to get.
Ive had OTT and every staple in Ott for years now, the deck has carried me through several formats and tops and now if i wanna play my favorite clan, it is a minimum 100+ dollar investment. I was already pretty burnt out with the crummy lists and promo fiascos, but history collection might be the biggest fumble bushi has made in a long time
I mean. Can we also blame the secondary market for the the expensive promo problem? People can be sharks and will gouge you out for all your money. Without consideration for the player base. Also my "locals" also haven't gotten the July promos either. Also, i can see locals dying in more remote areas while the more metropolitan cities with locals, like NYC, will do better. But i have no evidence to back this other than those are like the only places that actually have active locals from what i've seen.
I 100% agree, players themselves should never price gouge each other. I’ve seen a lot of good will transactions, but when you put this opportunity in front of people/ sellers, the market is simply going to run wild. We’ve seen it time and time again, so it’s a multi faceted problem sadly
@AlexCFV yeah like I've just given away cards which would normally be expensive just because the guy wanted to play the deck those cards were in, just because I had extras. And like for the promos let's look at Empousa. Drajeweled is not a top tier deck. If you look seriously at tiers. I bought my 4 copies for $23 a piece when she first was released and like a week later she doubled in price. What the hell.
Anyone else find it funny that everyone gets a Guardian Shield ticket but the card you need to use it is expensive af? I'm praying I did not lose my Harmonics promo that I got YEARS ago...as that is the only other release for the card.
History collection is just bad. A billion cards and just 3 cards per pack and, of course, the bad ratios. And what makes it worse is that vanguard only gets one premium set per year.
i saw this and it broke my heart cause i just came from tcg website looking into what my ideal build would cost to make, and 338 USD for the lowest cost cards just to have a tourney ready deck... background i saw the anime about a week ago got excited for this game and wanted to play and collect so i liked the cute girls and started with a lyrical booster box it was 20 bucks and the starter deck that ran me 15 bucks come to find out i did not pull anything that would make a worth wile deck i was honestly disheartened and now i have a pile of cards i hope i can one day build the decks i see on YT
If you have the TD already, I made a deck list that uses G3 Kairi and is pretty budget. The deck is definitely playable, and should run less than $50. It’s a good deck to learn on, as it has a few lines of play at various stages of the game which helps teach solid fundamentals. Unfortunately, the game can be rather expensive at the moment for fully optimized decks, but this isn’t always the case! Bushiroad really suck as a company, bad decisions after bad decisions, especially seen after G era, rebooting the game TWICE (AND FAILING TO POWERCREEP YET AGAIN), Vanguard is inaccessible in the western world, bushiroad only cares about Vanguard in Japan, new players completely priced out, power creep insane, new set released each month, Vanguard Dear Days $60 Cash Grab, Cardfight online cancelled because Bushiroad didn't want to pay Devs money, those same devs made fate grand order, no card shop will stock bushiroad products because they keep discontinuing card games ie Buddyfight, Luck and Logic etc etc, card values for older collected completely tanked as no one needs pre G era cards especially with the game Rebooted TWICE, too many formats for bushiroad to support, player base ruined as people don't want to spend hundreds of bucks each month, no returning players to sustain the business etc etc.
Bushi are trying to kill the game. They want just 1 format, Standard. They killed off V, they're aiming to axe Premium. If we don't let it die they'll just axe it like Buddyfight Edit: Forgot the expensive promos. Yeah fuck. Forgot they existed because we never get them. Personally I blame the shift of manufacturers from Singapore to Malaysia.
I completely forgot the manufacturing location changed. While I don't think they're trying to necessarily kill it, they've made very questionable decisions over the past year. Hopefully better times ahead
I've been more Interested in Weiss Schwarz and Shadowverse way more than Vanguard, and for so many reasons. The Tamayura Broken Toys and the way I had to get them and so on was a very huge reason to many more. Vanguard imo, is not the same anymore...
I quit standard/overdress at set 6 and im happy i did that then went to premium because you get more bang for you buck in the long run imo but now we get this happening where cards that are near required for competitive are through the roof might consider quitting entirely and just going to battle spirits
As someone who has only got in the game when Overdress came out, and is now writing deck tech articles for BCW where I have to actually build the decks to take pictures for, I feel like most the stuff I have to write about, I can't even afford to build the decks 90% of the things with what they pay me with these promo prices, and with Harmonics I feel like I can't even touch premium, and V is in this weird holding pattern. It's making me have to plan these articles out AGES in advance and I'd been planning Minerva for a while, but with Thesus at like 60$ a pop, idk if it's even worth it, even after I picked up a core

@@AlexCFV Being that I'm specifically writing these for a company that makes sleeves and deck boxes, that's why I need the phyiscal cards. My locals is dying off too, otherwise I'd just talk to them about pooling these promos together just for some pics. I did just get the green light to write one about my favorite Magic the Gathering commander deck, though since that deck is getting support in the next set

My locals just has the person going 2nd get the 20k shield and GB1 is active, and ignore the rest. I refuse to spend even half that on a Harmonics Messiah.
tbf right now im slowly quittin vanguard for this reason and more... and now switching to pokemon tcg yeah the entry tbh is good very good better than vg not gonna lie...yet still enjoy watching people playing vanguard and hoping there is a way they fix this some problem..
I have more or less given up on playing physically, I still collect singles every now and then for display so that I still show some support, but ultimately, I only play on simulators nowadays
Making staple promos is a bad idea in my opinion. And one Bushiroad seem content to not care to change. It helps drive engagement and participation in Japan and from what I understand, while some cards can be expensive and hard to find, the situation is manageable and cards can be attainable within Japan. So while it look somewhat rosy in Japan, the rest of the world just can't keep up. I don't want to lump all the problems onto Bushiroad Global even though it is their fault but it is not an easy task having these many promos and having to find out how to distribute them across the entire global market when it is just a small subsidiary of the big Bushiroad. I have no idea how big the funding is but there is a reason why Bushiroad hasn't gone big outside of Japan. Even within Southeast Asia, people rather play the japanese format just because it is better managed and better supoorted even if the promo situation is terrible, at least it will be better than global.
I feel the art quality had dropped, like look at Spiral Cutie Angel, I've never seen anybody talking about how the art looks, it looked DULL as if it was enhanced by AI or smt, I've went past card illustrations he had made, it was fine, standard, quite okay but comparing to Spiral Cutie Angel, she looks lifeless; the same can be said for Rezael for Divinez, his right wing is upside down and the background is just oh so plain, it doesn't have the 'WOW' factor. Furthermore, in Divinez era, the LM nation's starter deck's grade 3, Marlean, she looks so basic, so dull, unlike its far predecessors (Bermuda Triangle) like most of the cards from BT were so full of life, colorful, gorgeous and unique, you can also compare the first ever LM starter deck, Kairi, she looks so good in the uniform, it has the shading, the details, it's eye-catching. Now though, new players(If there are even any) decides to try Vanguard after watching Divinez(which is a dumpster fire), they would feel underwhelmed or not if they're interested in the mechanics only. All in all, I think after the overdress era, aesthetic wise, it had fallen off quite drastically. I feel like dropping this tcg, as it feels like hell to see my locals reduced to measly 5 people per tournament held, another factor is as said, price, self-explanatory.
1- Messiah re-issue was a mistake. It should be together with the guardian shield. It is a generic card that every deck needs. It should at least give a reason to buy the box. 2 - The On-hit strides re-issue was a double mistake: A - You took old cards without a real demmand and power crept them to oblivion; B- Persona Flip is the worst mechanic the game has to offer. You pay double for the card or else it is just a fancy Balduvian Bear. And even if you had in your collection, you need just 2. But who'll be willing to pay up to 14 bucks for 2 OG rare cards that you need a "translation"? It is beyond the point of ridiculous. 3- Bushiroad is a company known for its' policies of breaking promises. That promo promise comes from way before, during de LB era, when they make awesome promos for japan and nothing for EN format. 4- Bushiroad is indeed trying to get rid of Vanguard. There is no CEO that would not want to expand their markets to a global scale. Aside of... Of course, Kidani. To me, vanguard is just a dying game that is constantly living by medical devices. Sooner or later they'll pull the plug.

I really hope v doesnt die. Its such a nice format to have the power level around D series level with the deck building choices closer to premium. And its the only format for those who want to play a game without the over trigger
the problem which is the secondary market only is the fault of the secondary market. i been playing this game for a long time bushiroad during the dress format made sure to reduce supply of the game intentionally so they dont have product dusting on the shelves when it comes to newer product. for older product which they see people are slowly supplying the secondary market. i get it to a point but we the base have do the one thing they need to do. SAY NO TO THE INFLATION ON SECONDARY. yes the pull rates are bad yes its problematic for a point. Vanguard is still a nitch game even if it had growth recently. push them to fix the ratio a bit is fine but they want you to buy new product overall. if you just have the old version say harmonic just have the errata with the card. saves you money and time.
The pull rates are entirely to blame for this issue. I’m sure the majority of people aren’t buying multiple copies of this, but in order to play any deck in an entire format, you need one copy. Therefore the player base is forced to somewhat give in to these insane prices. Old copies for sure save you a bit, but its still a bad situation overall
I used to love Vanguard so much I've moved on to Grand Archive nowadays. The devs actually listen to player feedback and the competitive support is just unreal. Gonna miss VG tho :(
i feel this issue could be solved by buying more product so more needed cards are in circulation its not really bushis fault fully they don't control the after market prices. if theres more suply then theres less of a reason to buy cards at the higher prices
They made a card necessary for every deck in the format at a 4x per case ratio. They printed the shield ticket as a box topper bc they knew everyone needed it. They made the chase card beyond unreasonable. They don’t directly set secondary prices, but when you print mcdonalds packs - you effectively know what the result is going to be.
Promo packs only have 1 card and are LIMITED to only shops that have vanguard and IS supported by bushiroad as well to get said packs which unfortunately a majority of shops don't have vanguard and if they do it's a hit or miss if they have promo packs to play as well.
Man, so many different people say that a card game is, “Dying” lol. That statement has honestly lost it’s credibility to me, you have to give me a REALLY good reason to convince me why a game is dying. If anything, I can make a very good argument why V is, “dying” just for the sole fact it hasn’t had a set in god knows how long now. We get a few instances where Bushi could’ve did a better job (ratios, promos, list was “eh” this go around) and people want to believe this game was dying. There’s not a lot of card games that make it past 10 years since release but Vanguard has, I’d say Bushi has, for the most part, done pretty good with the game. If the attendance for Standard doesn’t indicate that for anybody that believes that statement then idk what to tell y’all.
I don’t think I truly said that it’s dying. This is still my favorite TCG by far, and the one I enjoy most. That being said, the games trajectory has been bleak, BCS attendance or not. When games that are less than 2 years old triple our attendance, I don’t think you can really even compare. Bad case ratios, poor promo distribution and reliance, on top of the format warping short print we just got have all been adding to this. The game has been rebooted twice now… not so sure we can say they’ve done a good job with it.

It’s very easy to say what’s been going bad but I believe we should take some time to say what’s been going well. Everything that was just named was money related, what about the actual health of the game (we don’t talk about V lol). We criticize a game because we care, I get it. We want the game to be as best as it can be, I’m on that boat too. But if I look at it from a positive perspective, I can personally say, from my POV, more right has been done than wrong when it comes to this game (at least since I’ve been playing in Late 2020). It could just be the fact that I had to deal with Konami and how they handled their game so my standards could just be extremely low, lol. But if you’d like, go ahead and show me a game that is running their game very well so maybe I can get a different perspective on how it’s supposed to be. I’ll check it out and come back to this section.
I see what you’re saying, and I largely agree. Yes this video is focusing on the money aspect, which largely is a hot topic rn due to this set - but there are a lot of things going right for the game gameplay wise. While standard isn’t my favorite format, I like the general viability of various decks (even if one or two might be dominant). I think the gameplay is smooth and fairly balanced for the most part, and it’s getting to the point with the cardpool is expansive enough where we might actually see real variance in deck building choices. Premium is largely unsolved, and I expect it will be that way for a while which I like. I still personally actually really enjoy V, despite the lack of product. I think you and I are approaching it in the same way - from a point of passion. I really don’t like being negative, and perhaps next week I’ll actually make a video on the more positive aspects of the game. I recently did a video about is “vanguard the most over inflated TCG”, where I discussed battle spirits, digimon, and one piece - and compared their markets to ours. The attendance for those games is incredibly high, and the markets are far more reasonable. I feel like MTG, pokemon, and YGO aren’t fair to compare to our smaller game, but these newer Bandai ones probably are. I appreciate the discourse and your thoughtful comments 🙏🏻
