I mean, she couldn't even dive into the pit, the literal ONLY time a water breathing mask would've been really useful. Although I'm also just assuming here based off the fact that Hahli was unable to stand the pit's water for too long.
I guess the point is that the Toa Code forbids them from killing, so solely relying on melee weapons is out of the question. With elemental powers you have a lot more non-lethal options like trapping, knocking out and so on. The weapons act more like wands and traversal tools. I wonder how the combat system will look like in the end. Personally I think an ideal combat system for a Bionicle game is simply not possible with current common technology as you'd need an advanced physics engine including things like thermo dynamics, aero dynamics, polygon fragmentation/fusion and fluid dynamics among other things like free-form elemental control that isn't limited to a few "spells" in one package. The result would be a physics system were every fight is more about creativity and real-time puzzle solving/strategizing rather than hit-dodge-block scenarios. Would be one hell of a USP, but also hellish to develop.
@@scottjs5207 Krataa and Krana do not count as sentient life at least in their world and as such it doesn't count as killing in their world, for how stupid that may be. (Rahi are a grey area too apparently because reasons) The bodies of Rahkshi and Bohrok alone are only suits of exo-armour for the above mentioned species. So only tearing that suit apart is like smashing a car. Toa at least do not kill by intention and the counter evidence of Bohrok, Rahkshi and possibly Rahi is due to faulty education by their culture according to our standards. If it was proven in-universe that it was still murder the Toa would collectively face an existencial crysis since they never wanted to commit murder and would subsequentially refrain from killing the species you pointed out (unless they snapped and went serial killer).
Listen, having never seen a single one of your videos before, the rating of Hordika minifig to Kardas Dragon, and this game's rating being Thok is nonsensical, and yet, completely justifiable and agreeable. How do you do it?
A friend of mine used to have the shoes. It's oddly nostalgic to see the shoes mentioned. We grew up with Bionicle and would play that computer game that came in a small disc. We also went To Lego land a few times and would see Bionicle being advertised on windows and a statue. feels like another lifetime since then, I miss those days and that child wonder/excitement of what's next.
Sweet review. Empty combat and absent music are obviously on the to-do list. I'd say the main achievement is amazing exploration full of gasping moments of recognition, cleverly integrated into one big sandbox. Some critique on that: While Ga-Koro is a flawless recreation, I feel that's actually underachieving compared to other villages which are more elaborated, like Po-Koro. I also feel Ga-Koro is poorly integrated into the map - the kaukau waterfall drops into a swimming pool rather than the main bay. I think one of the characters randomly comments "shouldn't this village be further into the bay?" So, the devs are probably aware that it felt a bit tacked on.
I only hope with the new version they’re making they could make some boss battles with the rollers, just something I thought of to improve the fighting
I don’t really know much about Bionicle, so maybe this wouldn’t make sense, but I think it’d be cool if the environments in the game were designed out of virtual Lego pieces rather than using more naturalistic terrain shapes and textures as seen in this video. Basically still model the land and terrain, but within the limitations of what you could actually build in real-life with actual Legos including particle effects and other effects like undulating water. Basically imagine building the entire game with Lego pieces, that’s what I’m thinking about. I’m not sure what gameplay Bionicle fans would want, but I’d just like something that’s about exploration and traversal, like a mixture between SnowRunner, Zelda, and Grow Up with a dash of Death Stranding without the combat.
My first thought is that the official Bionicle animations always had realistic terrain, so the way they did it is more accurate to the source material. Bionicle also used Lego's Technic system, which is sometimes difficult to integrate with normal Lego pieces.
Prior to this channel I've never even heard about bionicles, now I've seen more than 3 videos about it...still don't care about bionicles, but had fun with the videos, quality content for sure.
I actualy really enjoyed the "bad lego sets" when I was a kid hahaha however I do wish it was more hack-n-slash like kingdom hearts. Was deffo one of the main vibes the trailer gave
You should check out the game Bionicle: Quest for Mata Nui it is alot like this game but it with a far more dramatic feel and tons of content as a bionicle fan it would be a crime to not atleast watch one of the dev videos showing off the game play
Okay based on your complaints I have a suggestion for the new version: Make the island 2-3 times bigger *and* add in more dungeons and temples for all the Nuva Masks.
i played with bionicles growing up and even constructed the megazord you could make by combining all of them, yet i still don't understand all the love for the franchise. it was all just so forgettable
It's a bit like Transformers : not interesting as long as you don't get into the lore. The lore is the main reason why we love this franchise : it's more than simple toys, there's a rich and complex universe behind. It's the same reason why there's so many fans of Transformers or Magic : The Gathering. Beyond the simple product, there's a story.
I could never get into this because I'm actually from the country whose language they appropriated and the naming is so lazy and cringey. Who'd have thought the characters would be literally named after their elements?
I found this out for myself recently so I’ll share here: there’s a Matoran somewhere in Ko-Koro who, if you bring certain materials to him, will build you a radar to point to any masks you’re missing. It’s how I got the last few Kakamas I was missing
Loved the video! You presented some good ideas in there i liked the minimap task tracker idea. Unfortunately we're only doing bug fixes in Legacy, but i could deffinately see that as something we could include in 2.0
Please be wrong please be wrong please be wrong please be wrong please be wrong... (Not that I'm trying to shit on this game, I just want more good Bionicle games)
We’ve got masks of power legacy, 2.0, canon contests, and Quest for mata nui coming up. I think these represent the beginning of a renaissance for bionicle fan content.
That's the great thing about Bionicle, you can both ironically and unironically love it at the same time. Like sure, we joke about showing a girl your bonkle collection being an instant panty dropper, but is a really a joke if it works?
There is another bionicle game you should look into if you haven't already. Quest of Mata Nui is a fan game that is like a Mona lisa in terms of artwork. They even got the voice actor from the commercials to narrate the game!
The biggest problem with this build is that; if you can freely switch between any Toa at no cost there's literally no point in collecting the Great Masks. This would be fixed by simply locking a playthrough to a certain Toa, separate save files for each one.
Trying to get this game to work on Steam Deck currently to tide me over for the remake. I think a demo is coming in the next couple months, actually. So excited!
