I recently got into Lupin part 5 - and seeing how somewhat grounded he is as a character, really got me interested in the series. Now watch parts 1-4..
Parts 2 and 4 stand out to me well, Part 1 is still great but just wasn't for me -- not until it got lighter in tone. Woman Called Fujiko Mine is wonderful, I like the dark edginess. 3 is.... well, Part 3 is unique
@@SNKJay According to The AnimeHero, he described Part 3 as a mix of both the cool and dark tone of Part 1 and the goofy and silly nature of Part 2 in one of his videos. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RdVLMuAFUpI.html His assessment about Part 3 is around 19:50 Do you agree with this?
@@jolean_cujoh Good question, ah I've seen this video. It's a pretty good overview of the franchise, I find Part 3 to be pretty dark like Part 1, but also very experimental and goofy with both the animation and tone. A few episodes play with new ideas for Lupin, the story structure is nearly the same as the other Lupin shows but there are times when Part 3 goes above and beyond to be its own thing. I don't hate Part 3, I consider it a "taste". It's not easy to get into 3 as the other Parts imo, I feel like you might have to know SOMETHING about Lupin, making it not a viable place to get into Lupin imo. I like the 80s colors and vibe, but I def consider it on the weaker side of Lupin content. I did enjoy watching several episodes from this part, and I can't wait to eventually sit down and review the entirety of that show. So, I agree with that video, but I find it to be more than a mix of Parts 2 and 1. It's kinda it's own thing, which isn't a bad thing. Just isn't the most viewer-friendly depiction of Lupin imo, given how different it is from the rest of the shows/movies.
I just finished Woman Called Fujiko Mine, damn if they do went with this route we're in for a ride, but as a new comer I'll take anything. That and I want more of those groovy music
Ah, the soundtrack I completely forgot to talk about -- I'm hoping Yuji Ohno is there to compose again. If not him, then the people who did Woman Called Fujiko Mine would also suffice. Great stuff, can't wait for some jazz mixed with London-style music (possibly from London's Jazz scene, they've got some interesting musicians out there with unique styles)
@@SNKJay I agree, the soundtracks in this series are brilliant. Since it's the 50th animated series anniversary, they should bring in the big guns so most likely it will be a delightful soundtrack
sweet! I got into the series mostly because of your "how to get into Lupin" videos so knowing a new one is coming is really neat, especially because now I'll be up to speed with most of what happens and we'll all share the new experience as a community can't wait! and thank you for introducing me to the franchise
I watched your “how to start/dive into” video lol And decided to start with Part 4 I’m close to finishing it (started a while back, took some breaks, came back) so I’ll be heading into part 5 and then I’ll probably check out 6 Unfortunately it seems to be exclusive on HiDive which, as far as I’m aware….unlike CR is subscription only No free plan I might need to sail the seven seas but 🤷♀️ I’ll consider checking out the castle film too if I find a decent platform it’s available on
Yea, HiDive do be like that. I'm happy there is some streaming service out there for Lupin, just sucks it's an exclusive. Strange decision too. It's better than the countless movies/specials that have become lost with time, really sucks there
It would be cool to see a continuation of that spinoff, I hope they make a Zenigata-themed movie, given that they made one for the other respective characters (except Lupin, maybe he'll get one too someday)
@@SNKJay *TO ANYONE READING THIS COMMENT CONTAINS MINI SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.* I don't think he'll ever get a film of his own. That also brings up the question of how Takeshi Koike''s spin on the Lupin Franchise will end. Because Mamo did make an appearance in the ending of Jigen's film and he seemed to be watching what Lupin and the gang were up to , much like how Fujiko was being watched in her stand alone show: “The Woman Called Fujiko Mine.” Not to mention we found out that there's a company producing the assassins that tried to kill Goemon, Fujiko and Jigen, which I bet is being financially backed by Mamo because he's making a comeback. If I remember correctly he wasn't actually killed in his own film was he? Which brings up another question of mine: *“How do you go about revealing a character’s past though they were created to have an air of mystery surrounding them?”.* I think the last thing that the script writers want to do is stray away from Monkey Punch’s (RIP) path for his characters. I can’t help but wonder if Monkey Punch just left a shit ton of scripts and what he’d like to happen with the Lupin Gang before his passing, I mean the man wrote mini mysteries and stories of espionage. He’s gotta have a back up plan.
@@Gemini053 I hope he has a back-up plan of some kind, or did when he was alive. Maybe this series is going to lean towards that, it'll lean towards Monkey Punch's vision while the main series Lupin shows and films will appeal to the market more. Yeah, I don't recall that character ever dying fully back in the film. However Koike-san ends his take on Lupin, I hope he gets to coz I love his films haha
Let’s Go.. but wait, I wonder if the english dub cast for part4/5 and 2 will return. Tony Oliver was unsure if he will be voicing Lupin again after The First. I can’t imagine anyone else taking his place. Well If Richard Epcar as the dub director as well as providing Jigens voice, then maybe the cast won’t change??
He'll definitely be back unless it's his decision to drop out or something, especially if it's Epcar. The whole modern cast except Doug go wayyyyyy back.
I hope they return. The Woman Called Fujiko Mine had a cast change I at first didn't like, but in retrospect it makes sense. I couldn't imagine Tony Oliver's cartoony Lupin over the darker more stylized version we got in that spinoff... but for this main series show, despite how dark it may turn out to be, I'd hope Tony Oliver wouldn't mind voice acting. Regardless, we prolly won't even know for a while after the first few episodes come out who will be in the dub, since I reckon it'll take at least a few months after the original Japanese voice acting to get English dubs.
@@inspektorblacket2356 I'm a huge fan of his take. Whereas Lorge was a really good funny Zenigata, Doug's is more of an all-rounder. I can see Doug's Zeni doing any series and it'll be aces. Also, I think Doug has mastered the LUPOOOOOONNNNN yell.
@@SNKJay Indeed, I really hope the go for a darker tone in this one. I also hope they put the spotlight on some of the other characters, especially Jigen and Fujiko.
The first teaser trailer reminded me of the very first scene in Cowboy Bebop with all the bell chimes of Big Ben ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nQXtsFFgr3w.html I'm really excited for this darker take on Lupin if they are going with the tone similar to early Part 1 or Cowboy Bebop
What happened to your video on Lupin III Part 1? I was watching it last night, and it completely vanished today. I really hope it wasn’t a fever dream that I had...
Nah, it's my b. I had a copyright strike on it. What I plan to do (and it's good that it happened now, I can plan for the future) I'll have to be more careful with using clips from the show. RU-vid Content ID system is a bit finicky, I was sure I was in the clear. Oh well, I'll figure something out, haha so sorry about that.
@@sinvector8020 Nah it's okay, that's life! I'll deal, I just hope I can keep making Lupin content without too much hassle in the future for what I've got planned!
So, I forgot to mention this -- the trailer mentioned October 2021, and I imagine Crunchyroll we can sees it. Unless it's only exclusive to TMS's streaming app -- nah I doubt it. I'll make sure to talk about it all here on my channel as episodes roll by
Right, from Part 5! An interesting and well-developed side character, I wonder if she'll come back! Prolly it'll be like with Lupin's bride from Part 4 -- maybe she'll make a small appearance somehow in this Part 6! Who knows tho, Lupin could really benefit from having someone like that on his team again!
@@SNKJay Agreed! Ami could fit right in and be the Edward from the Bebop crew to the Lupin gang It's kinda funny how similar the two characters are, both are prodigy hackers and had some story element relating to their fathers
Haha, it's fine! I sorta did lie in my previous videos, each part does loosely fit in a chronological timeline, but because how subtle it is, it doesn't matter. Whenever Part 6 comes out (October of this year) You're free to watch it without worrying too much, as long as you have vague understanding of the Lupin cast you're fine!
@@superharuhifan Ooh that'd be interesting! Given the duality we're seeing going on with Lupin in this show, that'd be fun to see if they tackle an idea like that again
I can't wait, there are MANY areas they could go into with Lupin! Possibly back to the roots, or maybe something different, more original, idk. Anything darker with Lupin, I can't wait to see what they try!
Lupin chronology is really lose but seeing this be a homage to green jacket makes me think that it could probably be something that happens after pt 1 and Calliostro since by info in the movie it alludes to it taking place years after part 1. It would sorta makes sense with the duality imagery the promo has.
Yeah, I'd be down for that! If it takes place after Part 5, there'd have to be a reason for things to be so gloomy... especially since Lupin's French escapades were pretty high-spirited. But who knows, I can't wait to see what the duality is all about...
Oh man I can't wait for part 6. Lupin the 3rd is a great anime. Absolute classic character and story. And pretty sure it's been running since the 60s and still going that alone is amazing.
Intersting, setting it in the past. Honestly, it's what I hoped for but dared not expect. I didn't care for the modern tech angle in the last 2 seasons, & preferred the oldschool homage episodes. Hopefully we don't get another Bond Girl shoehorned in for the entire season. We have 5 main characters as it is. I don't think TMS will ever have the guts to make an adaptation where Lupin is the asshole villain he is in the mangas.
Lupin as that kind of villain would make for an incredible premise, if done well. I never thought about having a Zenigata film, that'd be unique! We never really get much centered around him -- it could be through his perspective, and maybe even the effects of Lupin's gang and how much destruction they've caused, and how he has to be there to clean things up. For a normal Lupin show, that would be almost ludicrous to even suggest, but for Woman Called Fujiko Mine it's perfect -- a stylizied noir with a cop who's got almost nothing left to lose (Except his dignity, but even that is starting to get shallower by the day)
That's a great point actually, I only considered the uniform. I don't live in London, but I should know British police normally don't carry guns. Meaning, these could be private units of INTERPOL, or they are authorized to have weapons since they are guarding something, or are on a manhunt, idk. It's Lupin, they try to stay as faithful to real life as they can with these recent modern shows, I'm curious what reasoning they'll have. Great catch!
@@LikaLaruku Yep, that's right! TMS's app for some reason hasn't updated as of now, but Crunchyroll's got the whole show. As for anything else... well. Shady websites are your best bet sadly, until Amazon or other online vendors begin distributing this content again. I hope with the CGI film DiscoTek Media will get interested in bringing back movies/specials in a collection of some kind. The show too, it's annoying how few places online you can find this stuff, legally.
