A man pretends to be strangers.
A NEW MAN is used with permission from Hughes William Thompson. Learn more at hugheswilliamt....
Charles is in a slump. His wife has left him, leaving him adrift and at sea in his own life -- he can't even sleep in his own bed at home.
Looking to restart his life, he begins to assume the identities of strangers at a local coffee shop to avoid being alone. But his new way to avoid feeling lonely is a little more complicated than he thinks, and when he finds himself an opportunity to speak from the depths of soul, it both frees his spirit -- and lands him some trouble.
Director Hughes William Thompson's dramedy takes a common impulse we all have -- the desire to walk in another person's shoes, even for a brief amount of time -- and dramatizes, exploring the complicated emotions that it both soothes and gives rise to.
Charles certainly finds himself in unique situations as he impersonates anyone but himself, but they all satisfy his desire for any human connection, however fleeting.
The strengths of the film -- which is based on the short story HEALTHY START, by Etgar Keret -- are anchored in its sensitive, funny yet truthful writing and equally sensitive performances, which nail the gnawing loneliness, sadness and desire for connection that most of us will face during our challenges in life.
Firmly rooted in the everyday emotions of an ordinary man, coping with the travails of life, the film shows thoughtful attention to the vulnerability and longing of its main character, but portrays it with a wry sense of humor and a gentle eye for absurdity. A NEW MAN is about fresh starts, however you find them -- and moments of grace and freedom in the strangest of places.

To be fair, the videos Omeleto makes are pretty short. 8 to 20 minutes each and shorter movies are easier to write and make. They are mostly concepts and won't work as whole 2 hour movies. A lot of Hollywood movies has awesome concepts but were exexuted very poorly in their final shots.

This is Definitely one of my favorites. When I first saw your channel I was so confused as to what it was. Until I clicked on it and now I can't stop watching.

Was everyone playing along, accepting that being alone at a coffee shop is significantly worse then faking a relationship with some rando you've never met, or did seriously nobody show up to planned meetings???!!!

Every single time Omeleto shares, it has something to say. Regardless of genre, and with actors you’ve never met before; you’d still like to come across them on the street. I’m hooked. Bravo

His life sucks so he gets a kick out of messing with other people. Isn't that the definition of sociopath?
@meganp8766
@meganp8766 5 лет назад
ncjay08 I was getting that too, feeling like he ‘s kind of crazy. I didn’t think he could feel anything, that’s why he liked the punch. Maybe because he felt something other than sad/empty after the break up.
@ShiroIsMyName
@ShiroIsMyName 5 лет назад
Not really, but depression does make you feel empty, and that nothingness he describe is very relatable. For him, he is not messing with them, he just feel the void in his heart by becoming the one they want him to be.

What a fantastic concept with matched execution. LOVED the main actor and final co-star. I'm not too big on over-explanatory voice over, but in this film, it wasn't very distracting. Great short.

You never know with these shorts, if they're going to be any good or not, but this was awesome. Right about the time I started thinking it was kind of dragging on and seemingly going nowhere, he gets punched in the face. smiles and says it was still 10x better than staying at home. Dude, I would have stayed home. LOL

Brilliant dialogue. The premise really stretches my capacity for suspension of disbelief. I keep wanting it to be more plausible. The writing is really good.
