In the 9th century BC the Prophet Elijah, on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land, challenged the ancient Hebrews to discern wherein lay true fulfilment in life - whether in the false idols that can have a seductive power over the human heart or in the living God for whom our hearts were made (see 1 Kings 18:41-46).
For the 21st century, a new community of young friars are today creating a new Mount Carmel in Boars Hill, Oxford, and renewing the ancient legacy of Elijah in the spirit of Saint Teresa. This Mount Carmel is “new” because we are confident that the legacy of the prophetic witness of Elijah, the charism of prayer entrusted to Saint Teresa and the wisdom of Saint John of the Cross for spiritual guidance are fertile enough to continue providing good spiritual nourishment and sustenance for people on the spiritual journey.
We ask for your support to make this vision of a new Mount Carmel real for our times and for future generations.
