Thank you SO much for doing this review. I just started getting into pottery this past spring as a way to help with anxiety and PTSD after going through some tough personal stuff. I find it is so grounding and endlessly creative. I learn so much about myself while at the wheel. I have taken two classes, and I am already trying to get a wheel for our garage. Your videos have helped me learn so much. I am recycling clay as I type this. I have mastered (that word is used loosely) the cylinder and mug, and I am hoping to move into BOWLS! Yahoo! That's my next frontier. And maybe a tea pot some day. Thanks so much for making pottery accessible, it has helped me to stay calm through health issues and create beauty instead of anxiety!
@@PotterytothePeople I just got home from teaching and I saw your video and I jumped out of my chair! So HONORED! I will email you now. Thank you so much!
Hiiiiiiiiii!!!! We want news!!! Did you try the wheel yet? Pls tell me if you're liked it because I'm thinking about buying the same. I'm a beginner, too 🥹❤️🩹
I throw on a Brent at the Art Studio where I'm taking lessons. I wasn't financially able to buy one so I did buy a $160 Amazon wheel. It's like driving a old used car, it has it's quirks and it sometimes does weird things and it can't move too fast but it gets the job done! I think it has actually made me a better potter because I have to learn to compensate and work around the kinks that it throws at me. I've thrown mugs, bowls and vases on that $160 wheel. I'm saving up to upgrade later this year to a Brent but I will always have soft spot for my old clunker.
They arent CE certified (safety certification of electrical appliances required for a n y insurance claim to apply) in Scandinavia where we have 220v. I know Brent wheels have caused houses to short circuit and even catch on fire bc of ignoring the safety directions stating explicitly to remove aggregate from the socket if left unsused for extemded time (over two weeks) and these ARE certified. I'd never DARE use a cheap Chinese wheel, not at my place.
@@gnarbeljo8980you can hire an electrician to check products like that if you feel unsafe but that is good info to know, thanks. Also price doesn't really have much to do with country of manufacturing. So the Chinese comment comes across as a little racist.
this is the kind of confidence i needed in the comment section of this review-like being a non-professional ceramicist i don’t feel justified in buying a REALLY NICE wheel because i simply do not have the skill for it. to be able to get confident in a trial and error way without the cost is literally EXACTLY what i was looking for~ thank you for this endorsement!!!
It's nice to see someone talk about the utility of a more affordable wheel option. I am much better at hand building myself but I am diving back into throwing and finally have the space to set up working at home! Love your video!
My 8 year old I would love to make cereal bowls on this wheel! She’s been asking to make her own bowls for months and she’s very good at learning new crafts.
hello! thank you so much for sharing your thoughts & demonstrating how it works + offering to give away the extra wheel. i'd use it to make pots and little sculptural supports for all my plants & friends. but mainly, i'd be using it for practice! i've spent years hand building, but just began my first wheel throwing class a week ago at a local community arts center. we're limited to 3 hrs a week of studio time, so i'm thinking i'm going to need to get a wheel of my own. sending you wishes of much rest & meaningful connection for this new fall season.
I want toget my dad into pottery, been looking into a wheel and possibly a pottery class for him! I would love to make a full bowl set to match the one I made in high school, mugs to support my newfound coffee addiction, and plant pots to never have an excuse to not get more houseplants!
Aah! Great review! I really want to get into pottery and being more creative. My brother's partner is regularly ill and spends a lot of time in bed/home due to her condition. She's also OBSESSED with plants as looking after her pot plants is something she has the energy to do. I've often thought about making her some pots and storage jars etc to brighten her down days :-)
Oh cool, thanks for doing a giveaway! I have just finished processing two different batches of wild clay I dug up in my area. It's beautiful, and so elastic! If I win this wheel I would throw salad bowls and plant pots first I think. 🤞🤞
How can you even find a decent brushless motor for that price? I wouldn’t trust it to last long under stress, as it’s going to be pushed to its limits constantly.
Hi all! I messed up and ran out of time to include the wheel giveaway results in yesterday's video, so it will need to wait for the next video. The good news is you have TWO MORE WEEKS to enter the wheel giveaway! I will be announcing the winner on *October 18th!!!!*
How do we register for the giveaway? My daughter and I are taking a ceramics class and I have finally learned to throw!! 😊 I'm thinking about purchasing this for us.
FYI: I went to Vevor's site - between this discount, the free shipping, the site discount for registering... this costs just under $100 US. Thought that was worth sharing. Good luck! EDIT: the free shipping in the US brought it to me in two days! 😊
@amandasunshine2 I am still making space for it. I had it on a wish list but am too new to the hobby to discern quality. So this video was exactly what I needed! I should be able to get some clay on it next week. Shipping was fast. Everything made the trip safe & looks as described.
This is amazing!! I'm a mental health therapist who's always looking to incorporate art into my sessions and the therapeutic value of throwing clay is phenomenal! I would use this wheel in my sessions with clients! I would be so excited to see what they end up making!!
Hi! I have anxiety and I do pottery, crochet, and embroidery. They’re all calming and are good for anxiety if you wanted an anecdote to how art helps ☺️ . I stopped going to therapy but I would love it if a therapist supported me doing art in this way
@@AnnaLin hello!! Nice to see another MHC!! I use art in a bunch of ways in sessions with clients! For adult clients, we will do coloring books or crochet/sewing depending on how they are feeling in the session. For teens, I like to use art as a grounding tool while working on harder topics, with neurodiverse communities I find it's so beneficial to use it as a tool to train positive self talk and resiliency! There are so so many ways to incorporate!
I have this same wheel!! I have had it for over a year now and have had zero problems! The height is definitely weird and the pedal sucks, but i religiously use the touch screen and I have the wheel on a short table so i can still sit while i throw. Definitely worth it, especially for the price!
Would it work if you sat on the floor? The way she was sitting on the table made me think it might work that way. I prefer to sit cross legged than on a stool, but of course that doesn’t work with a pedal. But with the touch screen, that might be perfect!
Ciao Mia! I'm always a little embarrassed to mess with the wheel in shared spaces. If I had one at home just for me, I would probably practice and keep messing around for the first few months with the basic ambition of making one day the bowl my dog deserves :D
Hey i would like to have one, since my parents cant afford it. My art teachet really surprised with my "hands". She said that i need to visit community center, where art lessons are, more often, cuz i have an interesting point of view towards clay, she said. I create cool miniatures and little bowls with clay. Though i don't have enough time to do my hobby, cuz i need to work, to help my parents. Sorry didn't want to be crybaby and describe my life even tho no one asked. Idk, just wanted to share my life. sorry if i am being like a dog with cute big eyes asking for attaention. Really love your vids!
I homeschool my grandchildren, ages 7 and 10. They follow a curriculum and then in addition I teach other fun classes. I wanted to get started in pottery as their art class. The more I expose them to, the easier it will be for them to find their "thing" they love in life. I would love to receive the wheel
This is amazing! I had no idea there were such affordable and compact wheels available. I'm returning to pottery after a 10-year hiatus and would really enjoy practicing at home, especially on my cylinders and creating a series of dishes. Thank you!
You cannot imagine how thankful I am for your videos. I live in Germany as well and pottered years and years only with air dry clay, because I couldn't find a RU-vid channel adressing what I needed (specifically for my country). Now I'm diving into the "real clay" world and I reaaally need a lot of tips. So, thank you for that!!! I'm really looking forward to purchasing my own, first wheel to start working on some mugs (I really love mugs!) and bowls, vases and some plates (mainly for myself hahah, but also for my Etsy Shop. So I'd be really happy to win the wheel, but I'm happy either way because I found your channel. Thank you :)
Thank you for this! For anyone wanting better height I bought 5inch bed risers off of Amazon for mine and they work perfectly! You can buy them at different heights too if you need shorter/taller heights than 5in.
I’ve been thinking about buying my first wheel for a while, so it’s a perfect coincidence 😊 I’m most exited to throw many cute mugs and shallow pasta bowls.
I'm brand new to pottery, and your videos have been so informative and inspiring. My initial goal is to make fun mugs for my kids, but would like to move on to bigger and better things soon after.
Hi Mia! Thanks for this "hands on" review and the possibility to win the wheel. I do pottery as a hobby and hand build everything at home. Sometimes I attend a class at a nearby pottery, but I would LOVE to have my own little wheel at home. Mostly I create simple dishes like bowls and plates and with a wheel I would do cups and mugs as well as experimenting with more artsy things like special vases or pieces with a dome.
Hi Mia...I've been doing ceramics for less than a year and dream of getting a wheel and kiln of my own. At the moment I use the wheel that belongs to my teacher once a week. I love making useful things...cups...vases...candle holders etc. At the moment I'm working on decorated bowls with holey covers to burn mosquito repellent coils.
Thanks so much for your review! Like you I've always been suspicious of these cheap wheels, but you've convinced me. I'd love to win this, would be great to practice repetitive forms at home, make a set of mugs and plates.
Honestly, if I had that wheel, I'd be making so many big "Roundy Bowls," like I made in my college ceramics class. qwq I miss that class so much and loved getting to make bowls and mugs that fit the round, bulbous aesthetic I've always wanted in my dishware. It was the best thing EVER! Also maybe branch out into plates with little "roundy" edges to match. I love plates with curvy, raised edges!
My sister and I have been talking for years about wanting to start doing pottery but the price of getting started has made it tough. So happy to have your honest review of something so affordable.! I am addicted to bowls and pitchers so that is what I would start with, for sure! :). My daughter and I did a little 3 hour class where we threw our own small bowl and it was so much more difficult than you (and others) make it look! Can't wait to get started!
i really love your videos, and it always makes me happy when i see there is a new one out there. also, as a perfectionist in recovery, i think your approach to pottery is so empowering to just have fun with it, and the stuff you make still turns out so beautiful! so i guess i would mostly be practising some self-love with the pottery wheel, but also, i really want to try replicating the salt cellars that you made because they look so cute with the little open smiley faces 😊
Thanks for donating this wheel to one of us! I appreciate your honesty in reviewing it. Like a few others who have commented, I've been largely hand building so far. My wheel skills are super rusty and it's a bit embarrassing practicing in the studio I belong to. I'd like to master the fundamentals and create the usual fare of bowls and mugs, as well as closed forms.
I am a novice potter but loving learning the process. Have been looking at the vevor brand . Glad to know you were favourably impressed. Thanks for the review.
It is a month after @ClorisPatientC posted below getting the big discounts and I just had the same experience on Vevor (although my total was a tad higher but still an amazing price). Great review and appears to be an excellent product for the price. I am actually buying it for my daughter who is a professional resin artist making gaming dice. She has to lap sand her dice to clean up casting flash and with a 1000g abrasive this wheel would be an excellent replacement for the 6" diameter lapping wheel she is currently using. I can also see it for my fellow wood craftspeople out there as a great sharpening platform for chisels and plane irons. Thanks for this excellent review and the links!
So exciting to know that there's an affordable option out there! I'm pretty new to the potter world, so if I had a wheel at home I'd keep experimenting to find my own style and keep making functional pieces that bring a bit of joy to all the mundane parts of life.
Nice review! Certainly a perfect, affordable wheel to begin with. The interest for ceramics is raising all the time, so it’s great to see these cheaper alternatives too. Cheers from Finland! Love you channel!❤
This thing sucks. I just used this piece of shit lol god damn the motor is weak I'd rather have a kick wheel. For the love of god I'd forgive everything if it had bat knobs
I am a beginner potter and would love to make it my career, I would love to make some funky plant pot’s and funky mugs but I also wonder what clay you use?because I have only used air dry clay and I know it’s not safe for food and drinking consumption
Great video! If I could add a word of caution to these wheels... I've had 2 of these kind of cheapo depot wheels. The 1st one did fine...(even made a review video about it and donated it to a budding potter at my last show :D ). The company liked the video and sent me a 2nd, different style wheel to try out (the exact one you have in this video). Unfortunately it started smoking after the 2nd throw and when I went to turn it on a 3rd time it never turned on again. It's probably a great wheel, but maybe I got a lemon LOL. keep the weight low, watch the exposed wires undernneath and I think I'd be careful about getting that electric control panel wet. Other than that it's a good beginner wheel :D
Hi, I'd love to experiment with this wheel, My wheel is ancient and very under powered, plus it slows down easily with the slightest pressure. It would be great to expand my skills in creating larger bowls, cheers
Hey! I've taken pottery classes a few years back and haven't stopped thinking about being a potter since. Last week I have decided to actually start my journey and save up for a wheel. Launched YT to watch your new video and it is exactly on the right subject for me, the timing is perfect :D I would make a bit of everything to train Thanks for the opportunity!
Love your channel! Your content is so helpful ❤ would love to win the wheel to improve my skills and throw lots of mugs (that's my favourite thing to potter atm)
An update and CAUTION statement for anyone considering this wheel. I ordered one, at an excellent price, and it shipped very quickly with the box arriving in perfect condition. I tested the wheel and immediately could hear a thumping sound and detect a slight vibration as it was running that increased in frequency as the speed increased. Drive issues; right? Yep. I run a shop where I do all the equipment repair and maintenance so I dove into investigating the "thump" without hesitation. The bottom cover is easy to remove and I was able to determine immediately that the main drive pulley wheel for the top plate (the pulley is cast plastic) was warped. The warp is causing the thump and vibration as the orientation to the motor pulley shifts up and down. No Problem. 30-Day No-Hassle Return policy stated right there on the Vevor page. Weeellll, NOT. Upon going to the appropriate page and filling out all the details I discovered that I could not post the return request (it is a nice looking machine for the money so I really wanted an exchange) unless I included a file attachment. Turns out that to use the "no-Hassle" return policy you have to provide a photo or video that demonstrates the issue with the item and it has to be in a specific format. No video or photo = no return or refund. If you check their return policy page, which I now strongly recommend, you will also find that the policy is conditional and this sure ain't Amazon. So, while I did manage to capture a video that does demonstrate the issue, I now have to figure out how to reformat it to be able to do the attachment and then await judgement from the technical department and then await the processing of the return and an additional 2-14 days before I would see a refund for the returned item. Perhaps the person who wrote the copy does not actually know what the work "hassle" means. I have never encountered such onerous requirements for the return of defective merchandise. As it stands at this moment, and given my own expertise at modifying and repairing machinery, I will most likely not continue with this definite "hassle" and instead let my daughter use it until it fails and then repair or replace the wheel with something better made. If it was working properly I would testify that it is an excellent purchase at barely over $100. As it is, I will try to view it as a usable, if defective, machine and an important lesson to more thoroughly examine the vendor before making assumption about their actual policies.
This is fantastic! I would love to have this wheel in our school, as i study at an art high school in Italy and we do pottery aswell! I'd absolutely love to do a ramen bowl 😊
I've been borrowing a wheel to make lantern gremlins, but if I had my own that's what I'd do! You basically throw open gourd shapes, then carve them out into little faces. You use the opening to drop in tea candles. The eyes and mouths light up and they're super cute.
Mia, thank you so much for this review! I didn't think it was possible to find a working wheel for that price! The small size makes it possible to transport even in a small car like mine. I did a lot of ceramics earlier and I am eager to take it up again. I would make dinner ware on that wheel.
Hi, love your videos and the non filtered, ‘this is really how things work/turn out’ quality. Started pottery this year and would love to make some taller, more challenging pieces 😊 cheers
Absolutely loved the honest review and how you really highlighted all the pros and cons of this. Very much appreciated! And I would love to participate in this giveaway! Me and my boyfriend discovered the wonders of ceramics some months ago and have been binge watching The Great Pottery Throw Down together (we love it)! We always talk about how amazing it would be to learn how to throw on the wheel but just how expensive (well, at least for our wallets) it is to actually buy one. So this would be absolutely perfect! And because I am an illustrator, I think it would be a really cool thing to combine with the work I already do! I could make mugs and then illustrate them with paint! I could throw a bowl, a jar, a plate or any object really, and just have fun with it and create so many new things! AH, THE POSSIBILITIES!✨
I want to make mugs. Years ago, I realized I had been collecting handmade mugs from my friends and that I loved them more than any other ceramic I owned. I want to make mugs and give them to everyone who helped fill my cabinet.
You are a ceramic support for me❤. I did my first firings and glazing with your videos. I use shimpo RK -5T (I didn’t have money for another one at the time, and I was afraid to buy wheel from unknown companies😅), there is no pedal, so I would like to try a different wheel. I watch every episode and I am delighted with your idea. You create valuable educational materials, but what I love most is your creative challenges and the fact that you show that things don't always work out as planned. No pressure, with a creative vision - something beautiful. Keep creating, all the best 🎉.
THIS IS NOT A REVIEW! and you should not call it that, cause it is misleading. Money changed hands? this is a `showcase`. a `Show&Tell`. a `Sponsored Assessment`, whatever you want. NOT A REVIEW.
Thank you so much for reviewing this wheel! I will definately check it out since I couldn't afford a professional wheel otherwise. Until now I have only used the coil-technique and other primitive pottery techniques since I started pottery in my archeology studies :). I love doing pieces inspired by prehistoric examples, but equally I am very slow with it. So I would love to also learn how to throw on a wheel to make more pottery for daily use (likely still inspired my archeological finds though). What I would reaaaaaly need myself to make though is a teapot, since I drink so much tea 😅🍵
I'm new to pottery and I would like to practice, practice, practice pulling up a cylinder so that I can eventually make cups and more bowls. Love your videos, thanks for making them!
I feel like the price barrier to pottery isn't the wheel, it is the kiln. I'm all for making things easier to buy generally, but that kiln is the real expense.
I’m a starter and would love to learn on that wheel. I go to classes once a week but still think I need one at home😅. I’ve done some mugs and want to do more. Love your content, greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
I teach homeschool pottery classes to 20 to 30 students in small groups. I bought six of these wheels and 6 inch bed risers from Amazon. It brings the wheels up to the perfect height for student to sit on an upside down 5 gallon pail and learn to throw many kiddos have been extremely happy getting to try their hand up pottery and I was able to bring it to them at affordable price. Of course they’re not horses like my skutt wheel
Might as well shoot my shot for the giveaway lol but if I don't win, I may buy the wheel anyway when I have the extra pocket change 😂 I want to make tall sort-of straight vases to hold my kitchen utensils! Not sure what that'd be called haha. Also deep walled plates that stack well into each other, but are super comfy for things like homemade rice/poke/sushi bowls!
I want to make different vases!! I want to practice raku so badly and start with some small vases and bowls. Been looking at buying this wheel but it would be incredible if I could win 😢❤
I bought that wheel last year. They had a special and I took advantage of it. I use it to trim my pots and apply glaze and transfers. That way I don’t have to rearrange my main wheel. Also it would be good for off sight demonstrations. Overall I’ve been really happy with it.
I’ve bought the same brand pottery wheel, but since it’s second hand it didn’t end up coming with its splash pan. Since I’m a beginner I didn’t know it was a must have, I’ve been searching for it and I haven’t been able to find it, even from the brand company. Could I get some advice please??
Honestly I wouldn't throw anything. It'd be for my son. We live in a small town and there are no options here for a twelve year old. He's made some things by hand but he doesn't have the opportunity to actually throw here. We do have a place we can fire his pieces at though so there's that at least.
Hello from Knoxville Tennessee USA. My husband and I are just starting our pottery journey and haven't purchased a wheel yet. Thank you for the great review so we can know if this one would be a good starter wheel. You didn't say if you ship to the US so I'm not sure if I can be included, but the first thing I'd like to throw are coffee mugs. 😊. Thank you for being so generous! ❤❤❤
She does not talk about the longevity of this wheel = How long will it last, with constant use???? I'D SAY IT WON'T LAST VERY LONG WILL MUCH USE AS A POTTER
Wauw you are the first potter on YT I see who does not buy by Amazon!!! I don't give a compliment because I want the weel...lol...I love handbuilding...Keep up the good work!
The anticipation of who. will. win .....is crazy!!!!! But I love it!!! I would make something whimsical since precision and me are not friendly. I thoroughly enjoy your videos!!! Pick me, pick me!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s funny because I got the same wheel off Amazon😭😭😭 but I’m so grateful for this video it came Just as I opened the box.. the size did throw me but I’m definitely no professional but now I have an idea of how to start with this!!!
Wow! A great opportunity. €100 is still a big investment so I’m crossing my fingers :) I’m just starting a pottery course so it’s hard to know what I will become passionate about. But, I’m excited to make lampshades! That’s probably way too ambitious but I’m never one to go small 😂 Good luck everyone and thanks for the opportunity! ❤
