Join me as I show you how I interpret the week 5 project from ‪@k3n.clothtales‬ - a patchworked piece depicting my interpretation of ‘hidden histories, untold stories’.
My week 5 piece is now complete and I’ve really enjoyed the process of thinking about my interpretation of ‘hidden histories, untold stories’. Using vintage embroideries and a favourite poem, I’ve created my first ever hoxagon patchwork piece to add to my stotch journal 🌸
I now have a Facebook group where we can share all things slow stitch. I’d love to see your projects too.

What a beautiful take on this prompt Sally, so thoughtful and so pretty and I love the idea of the poem being written on the paper you've used for the hexies. I'm also totally smitten with your workbox :)

I think you should do this on camera. It may be a little stressful for you but it sure helps those in the same situation, first timers! Right? Thank you You did a beautiful job!

Thank you - I shall remember that, I was just conscious that I was making a bit of a mess of it, but you’re right, I should have continued 🌼

Ah thank you - mine was by no means perfect and I know I’d never be able to do a whole quilt, but I enjoyed what I did 🌸

So long as you are pleased with the results, that is all that matters. Lots of people glue baste their hexies so don't worry about using your glue and as K3N always says "you do you" :) I love English Paper Piecing because it is more forgiving than machine piecing, I find I do not have to be so precise with hand stitching hexies because it is easier to "fudge" sewing them together if I am out a little. When I thread baste, I do not go through the papers so I can take them out and use them again, however, it is my understanding that this is not a hard and fast rule. I am lead to believe that in the past the papers might have been left in, it is thought it possibly helped with the warmth of the finished quilt. My stitching is also not seen on the front so do not have to take the basting stitches out as I am making a quilt so the stitches would never be seen. I guess at the end of the day it is personal choice. I have been enjoying watching your videos T x

I've tried glue blasting with a couple of different adhesives and I've found it gunks up my needle. For myself, I might (in the future) try cutting the paper he dies out of some kind of label paper. More expensive, for sure, but I don't need to do it often. I like how yours turned out and it doesn't seem like you encountered the sticky needle issue.

I didn’t encounter an issue with my needle getting sticky, but it was slightly stiffer to get my needle through. This was the first time I’d tried EPP so I was doing what I thought was easiest at the time. I’ve just tried another one without the glue and got on a little better, but I think I cut my fabric slightly bigger this time. Let me know how you get on with the label paper 🌼🌼🌼
