I agree and disagree... There great bikes, until you get on one, and then it feels like crap, it has the most unusual riding pos, and makes handling feel weird (I can say this as I have ridden them before)

I've owned a tw200 for a little over a year and just finished my msf course last weekend. They had a myriad of bikes to train on and I chose the Van Van. They had a tw200 there too but I wanted to try out the Van Van. What a surprise! I absolutely loved the Van Van. Very flickable, super easy to ride. It did feel a bit more refined than my tw200. Clutch is better, gearing better for road riding, more precise shifting, more comfortable. The proper move would be to use the tw200 for camping and off road excursions and the Van Van to zip around town and backroads. I loved the Van Van!

I had a TW200 and it was good on trails, but I felt every bump or pothole jar my spine. I purchased a Van Van and it is a lot more comfortable. The 2 inch longer length on the Van Van also makes for better handling. People who skipped getting one of these don't know what they missed. Id rather ride it than the CRF250L I have.

Had to share this bizarre but cool twist: I watched this video a couple months back when considering buying a vanvan for my 17 year old son and I to use (we just got licensed). It helped confirm it'd be a good fit as a first bike. I like the grey/brown seat look and bought one when it became available (they aren't easy to find these days!) from Indian Motorcycle of Oklahoma. It's being shipped to us here in Virginia. Angela at Indian Motorcycle told me after I bought it, that I could see a video of it in action on youtube. "There's this guy who does reviews and goes by Rabid Hedgehog and it's his bike." I said, "Hey, I watched that video!" Small world. Anyway, thanks for the great review and we'll take good care of it!

We called it the Burro as it climbed anywhere it was pointed. We were hoping that my wife would be able to get back into riding after some health issues, but after some rides she had some balance issues that came up and she was unable to navigate turns without feeling uncomfortable and would come to a near halt and walk through. So in the year we had it Oklahoma Honda Suzuki did the first service, and Indian of OKC bought it from us. It really is a fun machine, but I work about 30 miles from the house and it would take about an hour without the interstate to get here (did it to get it to Indian of OKC cause I work around the corner from them and it was 57 minutes). So it's not fast by any means, but it did well crawling around the back roads and some lake trails and such when I road it and handled my weight well. I hope you folks enjoy as much as we did.

I have been riding for 30 years I have had almost 18 motorcycles. I currently have a R1, a 1200 super Tenere’, a mint condition 1987 GSXr 750,a Honda super cub I have been riding for three years around town and I just got this van van two weeks ago ,blue 17,with 90 miles on it. To replace the super cub in Manhattan to take the bumps off my back the super cup have a very unforgiving suspension however, I like it it’s simple, workable, comfortable easy to ride and have a character of its own with its styling cues, including the cool oil cooler on the side, the fat tires very unique and of course the big comfortable seat That rides up on the tank, guys always think a big powerful motorcycle is it what motorcycling is about but sometime you need to get a small commuter bike to appreciate motorcycle and practical riding, commute etc and slow it down a bit leave the car home and everything else and go back to basics..great spot on review

Actually the vanvan started as 200cc carburettor bike initially sold in just Japan. The 125cc version was developed for the European market as most European countries allow you to ride up toa 125cc motorcycle without a full bike license so the 125cc become the most sold due to those markets being larger globally.

@@jagadeeshbabuk7914 Yeah, I hope it's not seen as spamming. I did put it on a bunch of videos about this bike, because I honestly did not think I could ride again after my back injury. I went many many years without riding, until I just kept getting a hunch (out of nothing, no recommendation or anything) that I should try this bike. I went to a local dealer (I'm in the US) and it was like fate. I sat on the bike and was not in pain. You have to understand how incredible that is. The majority of seats I sit in cause me discomfort. I mean seats in offices, buses, whatever, so for a motorcycle seat to be comfortable was beyond incredible. So, I posted about my experience because if anyone else is out there with tailbone pain and has had to give up riding a motorcycle, I wanted to let them know, it may still be possible. Find the right seat, and you may be able to ride again. While I was at the dealer, I sat on all other motorcycles there, dozens, and none were as comfortable as this bike. You ride?

These are a very tough machine to find around the country to be honest. I just did a run to CycleTrader and there are only 12 in a nationwide search of all conditions. There are probably a few more of them running around on other sites not listed there, but even then that number is going to be low. We got lucky. There were rumors it existed as a trade and I confirmed it just before they completed their Facebook post that it was on sale. But we had already sprung into motion and before that same hour was complete, it was ours. It would be a great machine for sure to start out with if you find one. The TW200 is out there in good quantities though and that would be a great place to start. There are also some new KLX models with 300 engines coming in and of course the Yamaha XT250 is a neat machine as well that fits into that category. Also Honda with the Rebel 300. I would avoid the CB300 to be honest, a bit stiff and uncomfy.

Oh no!!! Didn't know they canceled the VanVan. I am in the market right now and have not ridden in 21 years. I really want something small, easy to ride, reliable, and great gas mileage. I've been looking at everything in the 200-300 cc range with more interest in dual-sport models, but the VanVan actually was on my list because of the looks and it still has the ability to do a day on the trails - leisurely. I will not be able to find these new or used in my location and would have needed to order one more than likely. The used market is trash in my area and people want a lot of cash for their used junk. On my list so far: Honda CRF300L Yamaha XT250 Yamaha TW200 Kawasaki KLX300 VanVan 200 Of course three of those models (minus the two new 300's) can be used and interested in anything used that is within the 200-300 cc range. The issue is nothing has been listed except for an overpriced TW200. I didn't purchase anything because of covid last summer, seemed like no one was listing (just like now) or they are asking way beyond the true value of the bike. I will be honest, I keep coming back to the TW200 because the local Yamaha dealer does not have the price jacked while the local Honda dealer has 2020 CRF250L listed at 600 over MSRP and can only imagine what the new 300's will be listed as in the coming months.

The VanVan was known as the Do-it-All bike. One of the best budget beginner bike for dirt or road. Used you can find these things for $700-$2500 from reasonable private sellers and not those people who think their ride is made of gold. I found a handful for around $1,000 - $1,800 2009-2015s. Suzuki TU-250 was a sad departure and VanVan joining it. Over engineered, simply designed and rock solid reliability. Probably the reason why it wasn't good profit for them. Now we got to deal with weird retro naked sport bikes full of plastic, odd styling, and inflated prices.

My problem is seat height, short inseam and injury doesn't allow my right leg to swing on a tall seat height.
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 2 года назад
Sometimes if I have to approach a taller machine than I can even swing the leg over I use the stirrup method. Place left foot on the beg and stand on it and then lift the leg over. Sometime that suspension will sag just right and it's good from there.

How is it compared to the XT250? Which do you enjoy more?
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 3 года назад
The XT was for sure a more offroad capable machine and was able to get around more than this one. But for road use it cannot top this one and its comfy nature and shockingly better on road suspension. So for on road and commuting about this one seems to handle it better. But off road XT all the way.

I never understood why the rear drum brake. Put a disc on those TWs and vanvan. They are better and there's less to them cheaper to make, also they are more easy to work on.
@onanysundrymule3144
@onanysundrymule3144 11 месяцев назад
The advantage of drum brakes is that you don't have to wash the road salt out of the calipers every winter. I'm all for having the drum brake on that count alone.

How would this be as a commuting bike from duncan to lawton, ok I have to comets 78 miles daily
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 3 года назад
It would take a while. Although I have hit I-35 here in OKC area the top speed is 68 maybe maybe 70, but it cannot hold that. It's much more comfortable at 55. So I know the roads down there are more regular state highway at 65, but it will complain. It even has a fuel cut off if you push it too hard. Did it and it shut off at an indicated 71.

Not advisable in my opinion. I have been riding for years and never been as scared as when I took my (125) onto a bypass, not even a motorway (UK). I was flat out about 50 mph. Cars were flying past me around a third to twice my speed. really dodgy. I kept flat out, flicking my brake lights as being rear ended was a real possibility

What is compression braking?
@RabidHedgehog
@RabidHedgehog 2 года назад
Sometimes known as engine braking or roll off braking. It is the act of using the engine's own resistance without throttle input to slow the machine down.

not sure exactly WHY..............but I have had a soft spot for the little VanVan since I first seen one in person 2 years ago. To me, in its class, there is only 2 bikes. The TW200, and the VanVan. And it is ever so clear how each is intended. In my humble opinion, it begins at the 50/50 mark. If someone is going to spend the majority of their time OFF Road, the TW is no doubt hands down a better choice. I have always been more of a 30% OFF road, 70% On Road rider when I had bikes that had off road capability. So for me the VanVan would seem like a better choice. However, there is a 3rd factor. Passenger. Not that there is much room at all on the TW for one, but there is virtually NO room for me and my little wife to fit on the VanVan. lol Don't get me wrong, I do not recommend a passenger on either. Just saying is all. Yet another lovely video dude! @ 12:33 .................. priceless!!!! hahahahaha!!!

Interesting motorbike but I would rather take a Honda CRF300L that is the same money in Thailand. One should even consider a Honda Rebel 300 that is also at the same price in Thailand. Both with 50% more engine and Honda reliability.
