😍😍😍🤤🤤🤤 Colnago has the coolest decorations on the frames, forks, headset, and seat-posts. Not really my fave color, but would ride in a second (if it was 49cm, which it obviously is not)

Love the journey and your choices. Colnago: Leave the patina, and if you can touch it up. You aren't entering it to be judged. This is character. I ALSO just finished restoring a cruddy Schwinn Superior I picked up off Marketplace. That same ruby red color, too. It's looking GREAT, save for some blemishes in paint. Character; I'm leaving them. You inspire me, John! I ought to post. Thanks for your time.

Hey, Glad you're inspired. I have a blue Superior to fix up. The paint isn't bad but the decals are munched. I need some replacements if you have a good source! I dont mind a little charactor but when the decals are munched it looks like a beater! The Colnago I'm leaving. just cleaning it up!

Funny how a little hard work and elbow grease goes a long long way, doesn't it ?
@cafe6am
@cafe6am 8 месяцев назад
That bike is in very good, original condition, it does not need any restoration. Strip the parts, degrease the frame, wash it carefully with soap and warm water and then give it a good polish. The patina should be kept as it is. Clean the parts, instal new grease and it's ready to hit the road. PS: it's a bit too much yellow for my taste, i would go for a darker colour brake cable housing.

The Colnago if in my shop, would first get a try with some "cleaner-wax" (after I checked inside the frame tubes to make sure it's not too rusty to be worth the trouble) that stuff hated by real car guys but for paint like this you might be surprised at how nice it looks after you try it. I'll use it on aluminum bits too to shine them up and leave a protective wax-like coating after a bit of fine polishing from the mild abrasive in most "cleaner-wax" products.
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for the tips. I will use a light polish on the frame and then I ceramic coat it. I sell ceramic coatings for a living. I usually will use mother's chrome polish on all of the aluminum and that does a great job. You'll see that in upcoming videos. Thanks for watching

The Tempo looks like it’s a 1985 model, based on the crankset and the blue/white graphics. IIRC 1985 is when Schwinn switched to Columbus Tenax (seamed) tubing. I had a 1984 model which had a different Sugino crank, same graphics but yellow & white, but the frame was made by Panasonic and was Tange #2 tubing. Those were really good bargains back in the day.

That's a nice Colnago. I've never had one, I used to see them pretty often around San Diego back in the 70s. I think you are right to not respray it, the decals are too nice. I haven't bought a bike for quite a while, I am trying to stay clear of temptation.

The Colnago is in pretty decent shape, with a modest amount of corrosion. Hopefully it can be touched up without too much trouble. To be honest, this would be an opportunity to explore the best methods of addressing this sort of issue. Perhaps get a small bottle of paint mixed up by an auto paint shop and air brush it?? Italian paint of the era was not durable, and there's something to be said for keeping it authentic.
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage
@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage 8 месяцев назад
I think you're correct. Id like to keep it authentic. Like I said. It's not my expertise. I may have to invest in a small paint gun! Thanks for watching Steve.

Whoa! A Sentinel! Here’s my best shot… I’m guessing 1975, but it’s probably a ‘74, possibly even a ‘73, but I doubt that. I believe (have i even been wrong?🤔) it came out of the same factory as the American Eagle. I believe this model is third from the top. Next up, a Nuovo Record imitation Sugino crankset which was actually better than the campagnolo set it impersonated. Next up the line was the Pro, or whatever label they put on it. ishiwata tubing, side pull calipers, Record like seat post, and sew-ups. Of course my memory is fuzzy after more than 50 years

That particular? Miyata was an excellent buy. Someone could have purchased that and upgraded it to dura Ace and that person would not be totally out of line. It was a great frame. I'm going to keep everything the bike stock. I may switch out the rims because I think these have a little bend to them. We will find out once I get the spokes off. With a gold chain and freewheel that will be the extent of the extra bling. Lol

factory paint on a classic is only original once. no compelling need to repaint the whole frame... it's a hi-end beauty from the Era of Pantographing. work the problem areas... show us how it's done. if all else fails you can always paint it in toto later, right? (btw, nice 911... new stuff is ok too)

as to saddle leather treatment, try Leather Honey. I've used it on very old leather interiors & gloves. it's quite oily & even leather turned to cardboard will soak it up. can take numerous applications, but it works. @@JohnsVintageRoadBikeGarage
