Nothing better than a nice race at the end of a long day, and in some of my favorite racing cars! These early to mid 70s GT cars have been fantastic fun all the way to the GT Legends days, and the latest effort to bring 4 of the best models into rFactor 2 continues that trend! Paired with the phenomenal Sebring and spiced up with an alternate layout.
Its a recipe for a good time!

Early 70s GT and special touring cars is one of my favorite periods. 3.0 CSL, Cosworth Capris and Escorts, 3.0RSRs, 914-6 GT, big block Corvettes, Detomaso Panteras, BRE 240Zs, Maserati Bora, Ferrari Daytona... such a great era.

if Reiza ever gets Sebring for AMS2, I hope they do historic versions of the circuit because I find the evolution of this circuit to be very interesting.

Oh man, I’d love to see some races on the 80s layouts that transitioned from the blast along runways to something like the circuit we have today.

That version of the Capri is my favourite and I'm not a Ford guy. I have been looking for one just like I drove in GTR2 for my "Hired Gun" championship I created for myself where I race various cars on various tracks that forms a championship. One thing I love about historic/vintage racing compared to modern is the reduced precision (apparent precision) and less reliance on brakes. Modern racing is just point and shoot, where this old style is more about caressing and understanding the cars movement. And they are very forgiving..... until they aren't.

You can see this Ford Capri every year at Spa Classics (even racing by night). It has an awesome sound.

‘Historic Simracing Organization’ have an explanation on their site for why they didn't port their mods to rFactor 2, and stayed with Automobilista 1 as ‘ISO’ instead: they wrote that RF2 only allows tires that are already in the game, i.e. made by ISI/Studio 397-mods can't build their own tires. Which limits historic mods specifically, since those may vary considerably in their tire physics. HSO linked a whole longread on the subject of why tire models are important in simracing. So this might be why there are fewer historic mods for RF2. Idk if the situation with tires changed over the years, as the HSO/ISO abandonment happened quite a long time ago.

Love Seabring! When I lived in Florida I used to fly the company Cessna to the FBO there on the weekend to eat lunch. Then I would walk across the street and watch the club cars (usually Miatas) go around for a bit.

I feel that a lot of shorter or "club" layouts of tracks are often overlooked and under-rated. Some of my fave racing has been on these shorter courses rather than the full GP ones

I drove Sebring many times on three different configurations in IMSA and SCCA from the early eighties. Some of the biggest parties were had in the infield. People would convert clunkers with extra rows of seats and drive around all night during the 12 hour. Campfire smoke would obscure some of the corners, so you drove them blind! Stuff you never knew about racing.

I was playing Race-ON which is a Race07 expansion a few days ago. I had a lot of fun driving cars from a GTR 2 mod around a short circuit version of the Paul Ricard circuit in France. It's quite similar to the short track in the video where it cuts out most of the back straight. The track is fun but intense in the heavy rain. I'm surprised at how rain enhanced the gameplay. I'm coming from AMS 1 Which has no rain just a day/night cycle. On balance I think I prefer rain over night racing just for the variety in car handling it offers providing that the car physics are good which can be very hit or miss with mod content. I like 70's & 80's cars too. They are fun to drive and the bodykits on some of those cars will never be beaten like the DRM Porsche 935 and the Japanese Super Silhouette Nissan.

Came back to finish watching after installing the cars and doing one or two laps in a couple of them. Since starting sim' racing I've always felt that if I couldn't keep pace with the AI set to 100% then I simply wasn't skilled enough to drive that mod. You've demonstrated here how flawed that kind of thinking is. I was genuinely surprised when you mentioned running the AI at under 90%. I will now happily revisit some previously discarded but loved mods. Cheers.

You should try the school circuit layout. Drove it in a skip barber formula car years ago, but without the sunset bend, there is a tighter corner way on the outside of it.

Yes, that sounds plausible for IndyCar Spring Training, or whatever they call it. I mean, as far as shorter road courses in North America, there will be some variability in terms of what you can find in which sim, but I know I've seen Nelson Ledges, Lime Rock Park (no chicane with these cars), classic Laguna Seca, and Westwood all come to mind. And even though they're longer, Mid Ohio, Sears Point, Mont Tremblant, and maybe even VIR, are still sinuous enough that I don't know that the Corvettes could blow you out of the water. Internationally, there are certainly some other options. In the UK, you have Brands Hatch, and Oulton Park, not to mention Knockhill. Cadwell Park could be kind of a hoot in these cars. And in Australia, there should be mods for Oran, Amaroo, and Wanneroo. There's always the DRM Revival pack if you want Group 5. A BMW CSL won the Sebring 12 Hours overall in 1975. A BMW 320i Turbo won the Road America 500 in 1979.

When you do not need to downshift its better to switch to left foot braking so you can take advantage of balancing the car more with the thottle and having less delay getting back to the throttle. Its really fun to do and great for things like rally!

Hello Mr. GPLaps, I heard from quite a lot of people that Automobilista 2 fucks up their installation (mainly FFB) of Assetto Corsa. can you (or anyone) confirm? Because I wont buy Automobilista if that´s true. my AC installation is holy.

Always love your videos, Jake. But I have to razz you (a bit) about saying FAN-uh-tech all the time. (I'm not trying to be nasty.) If you happen to chance speaking to one of the Fanatec reps at the next tech expo (or over the phone), they say it's exactly like the word "Fanatic", because that's exactly where the idea for the company name came from. As in, fah-NA-tick. IMHO, FAN-uh-tech sounds like a company that makes fans, not gaming tech. Okay, I promise not to razz you about this again. Cheers mate!

@@fingers68 It will be about your tastes, for me personally the better a car looks, the more immersion I have in the game and the more I enjoy Making a mod with bad graphics is doing it halfway, it's disappointing to find mods like this, I either fix them or directly discard them, I mean mods and tracks that are graphic garbage The only thing these modders who don't want to work on the graphics get is to second-rate a game by making it look horrible

I feel they are also poor driving and FFB. Not anywhere close to S397 cars, especially that 2002. The ones in AC are far better as well.....too bad as this class of cars would be highly welcomed as DLC content in rF2.
