This is one of your better videos despite the fact that you don't get all of the information. It makes a lot of sense for me and for kids who are trying to get used to an event that is anything but normal.

I WAS SCREAMMINNGGG AT MY VAULTING BUDDIES WHEN I SAW THIS VIDEO!!!! I've been analyzing this exact mechanic through the last 4-5 years of vaulting advancements. If you watch Renaud's jumps from his WR year or many of Bubka's later vaults, there's 2-3 steps of the vaulters opening their shoulders to allow a more elastic position and a natural realigning of the hips through the extension of the takeoff. You can CLEARLY see this in the female elite vaulter Katerina Stefanidi* (One of the easiest to analyze this from all angles of the takeoff) The bend is actually displaced in her case and only occasionally for others exemplifying this technique. Great seeing you at the ITTCA meeting and was heartbroken to see a season lost. Hope all is well!

When I'm running I lose a lot of momentum because when I start to lower the pole to plant it my balance decreases. This hasn't allowed me to really work on my form or hold very high. Do you have a video about how to prevent that or any advice?

I watched Earl at the '81 sports festival, in fact sat through the vault competition with his wife, she was very pregnant at the time. That competition had some of the better vaulters in the world at the time, Including Tom Hintnus, who was hot then. The vaulters had to put up with Steve Smith, who was trying to BS his way back to the top. This was when he was going to attempt 22' in the LA Coliseum using a skateboard and ramp coming down the steps of the stadium. Smith passed the 17'"" opener and took his first miss at 17'8", then he passed to 18'4' for his second miss, then passed to i think,18'8" and dropped from the competition. He screwed up everyone by getting on the runway, taking his 1 1/2 minutes and then passing. Brian Oldfield and Al Oerter sat 2 rows behind me and Earl's wife just in front.

I have been out for a week because of my back, and am in contention for the state title (soon!). I will definitely have to try this.

Great stuff as usual. Can you analyze my son’s vault sometime? SHANE. He’s an 11th grader from SoCal. Thank you.

If you put your upper arm back like you did at 2:50 then wouldn’t that make you under?
@ShawnFrancis19
@ShawnFrancis19 2 года назад
You have to remember that in a real vault you'll be running and jumping off the ground so you won't be under like I was when standing stationary in the demonstration. Great question!

since you aren't square on at take off won't you have to work far harder to drive in as your hips won't be square? This would add a lot more rotational strain to your body no? especially since you have to fully twist and invert anyway?
