I occurs to me that you and Jason Jensen, have rewritten the DNA of model railroading from a hobby focused on trains, into one in which trains are a part ! You and Jason are modern day George Sellios’s, and that’s quite an honor if you even know who I’m talking about! Keep up the great work! We’ll be watching!
Dave, you are creating a very beautiful layout, gruesome and macabre, but beautiful nonetheless. I am approaching that certain stage of life and if I knew I would end up in Gruesome Gulch, well, things wouldn't be so bad. Great video, thank you.
I always like your structure builds, good luck with getting it all done on time. Ok. I know you have all buildings planned out. However I really would love a structure that caught fire. Something half consumed so you can see what it used to be but have the ghost town feeling of the charred remains of something.
Wow! This will be fun to watch as you build it. You didn't say if Gruesome Gulch would have occupants. Model Tech Studios has O scale Werewolves, Witches, Big Foot, Skeletons climbing up out of graves, etc. You can have a lot of fun with this build.
I liked the build, but I would have liked to see it lit up in a night scene. The only thought I had was with the holes in the roof, I might have put some junk trunks up in the rafters to add to the scene. Or not. It is a great start to GGRR and I am looking forward to future episodes. TY.
Just had a mad thought that same structure with different colors and labeling but the same general condition would probably look good at Hanging Rock given it is a borderline ghost town. As I say just a mad thought. regards John
Great look! By the way, rather than a single LED for lighting, what about say a blue and a green which very slowly fade in and out? If the fading is not in sync between the two colors, that may give an even more ghostly appearance.
It's going to be interesting to watch the progress on Gruesome Gulch. First thing I noticed; you're using a very different colour palette, compared to Thunder Mesa. The extra weathering/distressing should be fun too. With the new layout being a bit more "fantasy", there should be opportunities for a bit of humour, as G.G. is more light-hearted than realistic.👍😁
A great project!!! Another cool structure!!!! Ever try Dupli-color #1699 gray sealer??? I use it on plastic models to wooden structures. Try it. (I get it at NAPA)
Dave, Would you consider producing the laser cut parts as a kit or produce the files as a download so those of us lacking in the skills and equipment to produce our own laser cut parts could obtain the parts required to build? I don't know that a full blown kit is necessary as the video is a great walk-through tutorial on how to assemble the structure... only the parts are required. Thanks in advance and please keep your excellent tutorials and inspiration coming.
Thanks for another very instructive video, Dave. I have a question for you on paint. What do you think about the use of craft acrylic paints (e.g., Apple Barrel) for painting structures for layouts? In particular, what are your thoughts on coverage and color-fastness? Thanks! Cheers from Wisconsin.
I use them a lot. Apple Barrel is good paint. It goes on a little thick and usually takes 2 coats for good coverage, but it works juts fine for structures.
Another fantastic build thanks for sharing ...I have not seen you mention or seen you add a sealer to your finished structures ,do you seal them and if so what do you use thanks again
Dave, my wife is getting me a laser cutter for Christmas. Where do you get your materials for laser cutting? I can find clapboard and basswood but not the really thin stuff for window frames.
