I had a chance to check out the nightlife around the historic downtown square of San Marcos, Texas, after playing some music at 7A ranch over in Wimberley.
And when you think about the nightlife here in downtown San Marcos, you have to think about students, because Texas State University is walking distance from the square and there are 35,000 students who go to the university while the population of the city itself is about double that at 70,000 people.
The city is close to Austin and it has preserved weird and free vibes here that are a bit more difficult to find around Austin these days.
So there is a vibrant life here and unique culture, where they have a quick access to the San Marcos river that is right near here and then after a day in the river they can go downtown here and find plenty of bars and restaurants, including live music.
And summer school is in session currently. So there are students about, as opposed to times like winter break when it gets pretty quiet around here.
And this isn't my first trip to San Marcos, but what I noticed walking around is that there are quite a few new storefronts that have popped up here on the square, including some places who have closed.
But talking to people around here, I found out that the nightlife is booming, and a look on this night confirms that.
So I can show you some of the popular spots, including places that typically feature music as well as places that are featuring live music on this night.
