Shut the F up to you we all know Overwatch is already dead. If you want a better game, go play team fortress two and shut your mouth and go play Fortnite.
As a game designer, that team-up mechanic is extremely fascinating to me. It has the potential to create some crazy gameplay variety, but at the cost of some huge risks: players feeling like they can only play a hero if the team-up is available, players getting mad at teammates for not picking a hero that creates a team-up, team-ups being generally extremely hard to balance because they can't be easily accounted for, etc. The only solution I can think of is to create a truly insane number of team-ups so you're usually benefiting from one, then ensuring each and every one is balanced enough to feel viable. Much easier said than done! As cool as the mechanic is, I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing gets scrapped before release.
I think it could be really awesome if the game encouraged people to run Teams of Characters associated with each other. Like imagine if every character is apart of the Mainline Avengers. Instead of just two characters getting a buff, it's everyone on that team and they just get a smaller one to compensate. Hulk and Wolverine getting the Fastball Special together seems like a no brainer. A Hulk being able to just use a Wolverine player as a high damaging projectile that enables them to also close the distance could be devastating. Venom potentially buffing Spider-Man with the Black Suit would be awesome too. I think that would go a long way in making every character Viable at least on the Casual Level, iff they had thematical partners for them. To this end, fuck Role Queue all my Homies hate Role Queue. If you let everyone play what they want to play and give incentives for synergy, you'll have more True Team Variety than you ever will with a system like Role Queue.
@@Zeromaru42 I actually never thought about team synergies being a nice buffer for the shitty role queue. I am in the camp that thinks they need to do something about the team ups because it will get worse if they just let it be as it is.
I hope that they keep it as other games do map destruction better so it wouldnt have its own unique thing therefore very unlikely it goes anywhere I see it as having great potential for e sports even more so than OW as imagine seeing 6 perfectly crafted teamups in one game
Respectfully, I have many hours in GW and this game felt nothing like that to me. Maybe it'll be different for your though. Either way I do think it is a fun game
One like I like about the 3rd person is if you choose to buy skins you will actually be able to see them instead of just seeing there hand/weapons like overwatch
Maybe in just too competitive but regardless of if its 3rd, 1st or even platformer, I am not looking at my character when I'm playing. That's honestly why I prefer first person. You get more screen real estate and you don't get any crosshair perspective fuckery. The most important part about my skin is what is shows to other people.
"Overwatch Killer" is just an alternate name to "Hero Shooter". I also love how this game has flying heroes that, and this is a first amongst any game I've seen, that have infinite flight. I love that.
That's something incredibly well worth mentioning, so kudos on that. I think a lot of games want to limit the player (rightfully so as part of gameplay for all videogames is the strengths + limitations of whomever you're playing) by only giving limited flight, but fail to recognize that unlimited flight adds new dynamics to the game while still ultimately being a limitation. Always flying means there's certain covers and escapes you can never take, and also that you'll often be a decently easy target.
yeah that's the internet for you. most people are too brainrotted to know what a "genre" is and think every game is just copying. every new platform fighter is a "smash killer", every hero shooter is an "overwatch killer", etc. etc. its just stupid and people need to fix their shit
@@truthseeker7815is just competency, its clear that if Marvel is trying to make a hero shooter, genre that is in absolute decline with the state of it's two biggest contenders (OW and Paladins), and the cancelation/abandonment of many other games (battleborn, GW, Splitgate...) that *could* be succesful, DC will also try to make their own Game... It's the same as in the movies, DC has been trying to make an extended DC cinematic universe that could rival with Marvel's, falling nonstop for the past years
No they are not, what are you talking about? NDA's and requirements for those NDA's exist. Also, net ease being net ease, they can also be round about in telling youtubers to *WINK*WINK* say your not under and NDA or Contract so you seem more legitimate. And then tell them that "your under no obligation to say nice things" *Wink Wink* I mean really, it's fucking Net Ease. But hey, it's not like the internet hasn't become a pit of Misinformation, Trolling, and Lies, no no. Who would lie on the internet?
Didn't know about the team up mechanic. it sounds pretty cool. I hope if they add Venom they give him a team up with Spiderman that he'll give him the black suit for him to crazy with.
The "no role queue" argument seems to be weird to me because that was genuine problem in overwatch; you literally have to sit in queue for like 10 minutes because you wanted to play a specific role.
Which has nothing to do with role queue, but the fact that the game's player count is low. Role queue is necessary. Before OW added role queue, everyone picked DPS while no one picked support. Play games like Valorant, and you'll see everyone picking duelists at lower ranks instead of communicating and forming an actual well-rounded team. Because of these NPCs, role queue is a necessity.
I personally think the way OW2 works now is how the game should *launch*. Obviously this is an alpha so I don't expect all those things, but as a suggestion it should absolutely be looked at. You can easily have a role queue and an open queue and be fine. Both are populated in OW for those players
We're asking for role LOCK not role queue. In overwatch how it worked was that if 2 of any role was filled then nobody else could play that role. Role queue is where you select a role before queue and can only play that role for the match. And also there is not a low player count in overwatch, outside of comp most people 1-6 min queues
@@DBTHEPLUG One of the main reasons nobody played support is that there were like six support characters, and only about three were viable at any given time.
This is by far the most unbiased review I’ve seen for this game, pretty nice. I really hope this game will give OW it’s run for its money because I crave a shooter with a similar style that can be a competitor to it, doesn’t really have to be popular but just fun for what it is
Not enough games on the market nowadays just trying to be fun instead of esports, I love what this game is going for right now and I think it's got masssive potential
@@lawfulgoodnun1646not even close to a paladins moment first person existed for years before 3rd person and not only that 3rd person mode was disabled in ranked it got removed because it was so buggy they couldn’t be asked to fix the hundreds of bugs that came with it
Imagine coming up with one of the sickest artstyles for a marvel thing in a while and then people be like "I wanna see them less in my screen" Im SUPER glad this is third person
The Spider-Man and Black Panther balancing is solely down to being skill diffed if you watch people like Necros play as those characters you can see that they are completely viable picks, its just that they're really hard characters to play well
Spider-Man is also really difficult to use in the MvC games, playing Spider-Man makes you feel like Spidey since you always gotta work harder against fucking magic users
necros my goat🙏🙏 hes a genji otp tho of course he plays the weak but fun characters (i know genji is not that bad this season but still) and i say that because i also play genji and those two are the ones i want to play lol
@@hagos9939did venom leak? Must've missed it i hope we see rogue, jubilee and some more x-men on my side psylocke and wolverine are cool but i want more
I love how the devs really tried hard to make the character don't fell like a character from overwatch, the skill set from each character are either a mix from abilities that are similar to abilities from different characters from overwatch or are totally original
I feel like some people don’t compare it to overwatch because they think it’s a clone, they do it because it’s just easier to compare things that already exist, just a Humanity Thing
The people who complain about role que literally were not there for the first couple of years Overwatch was out. That's what Overwatch's foundation was literally built on was being able to change to whatever you or your team needed to counter and win.
I was there since May 2016 and role queue definitely was a great change, as was 5v5. Besides that, they f'ed the game up, so I don't even play that crap anymore.
@@Tatercon Believe it or not, GOATS was balanceable before taking the nuclear option of forcing role queue. But as demonstrated with the format change to 5v5, the OW balance team has a knack for taking the nuclear option over just nerfing the characters that enable the problematic comps in the first place.
not surprised at all at the weakness of melee character. The voerwatch devs wanted genji to be primarily melee but it was too hard to balance, so they gave him his ult and shurikens
I remembwr when hero/class shooters were called Tema Fortress 2 killers. Surprising that theyre now Overwatch killers, when Overwatch kept doing everything in its power to kill itself since game 1.
@@Grizzy6122 he basically shoots them with a web, string them closer, uppercut and melee one or two times for lower health characters and get out with the web swing, wait for cooldowns to disapear and do it again
@@Grizzy6122he plays spider man pretty similar to genji ngl, you hit the webs, “dash” to them, upercut melee and they die, which is basically the genji combo
As a veteran Overwatch player, I’m looking forward to trying this game and I welcome more competition in the industry. Both of the dev teams can learn things from each others’ mistakes and will try to outdo each other to get more players. Kinda like how Apex’s pinging system was adopted by every other shooting game afterward. More competition in the industry will always benefit the consumers
4:35 I will say I’ve seen some pro genji’s getting the hang of spiderman and absolutely deleting people, and some hulks learning how to dive effectively and really pressure people. But bp seems a little weak for sure. And the melee’s have a surprisingly high skill floor
It's the usual Doomfist, Genji, Hammond, etc.. these kind of dynamics, characters who are super demanding, but they can delete people. However, as a Doomfist masochist, it's frustrating how you have to work twice as hard to generate the same numbers of a Orisa. Same goes for this game it seems, you have Spiderman moving around like a thunderbolt and maybe killing one or two opponents, at the same time you have the Punisher just firing a machine gun and killing the same two opponents, lol it's a messed up concept, it will never be truly balanced, people only keep playing with super demanding characters like these because they enjoy the unusual gameplay, but the game itself does not reward their efforts, Overwatch "2" is all about rewarding low skill, most likely this Marvel Rivals will be the same thing... I think this is a defective design, but they have to attract new players somehow, so we will have plenty of people struggling with Spiderman, while Scarlet Witch just kills everyone with auto-aim like Moira, same bullshit, different game
its necros, he found a one shot combo on spider man which is pretty similar to genjis one shot and ngl as an genji player he’s pretty similar to black panther and spider man or at least you can play them like you would play genji and at the end of the day genji players are already used to playing characters like that, high mobility, fun, but weak characters, that’s also why doom players would probably also find a way to make them work
Clickbaiting with that thumbnail is really annoying lol, next time don't mislead people like that, you're driving engagement for this game down Edit: Seems like the Creator changed the thumbnail to 5 stars instead of 1, based move since it's now accurate on their beliefs! Got a new subscriber now
@@Swuh Yeah, I loved the video! It's just that the clickbait is leaving a wrong impression on people's mouths. It's very bad for the game and it can legitimately impact the people's view before it comes out.
I felt like this one of the first review were I felt no inherent bias one way or another. You spoke about how you felt but acknowledged that it has room for improvement like an alpha should. I'll be back to watch the beta review if you drop one.
That first person vs 3rd person rant just got a sub out of me lol I told so many moba people stfu with the same reasoning back when smite was first announced and they lost their shit over it not being birds eye view
It should be the entire game. They could add in an arcade mode for the worthless casuals that want to play without building an actual well-rounded team.
@@DBTHEPLUG The way I see it, the normal mode of a game is for the casual players, so they can just have fun with the game they want to play. Ranked, literally the mode for people who give a shit about their k/d ratio and dumb shit like that, is where the role queue should reside, because that's where a balanced team matters. The normal mode, nobody should be giving a shit, most people just wanna have fun in the game. Are stupid team decisions gonna get made, probably. That's why it'd not be in ranked. Doing it for the entire game is stupid though, a lot of characters that people like are gonna be put in the same class, a lot of people are gonna want to be strikers and defenders. Probably not supports nearly as much. There's a reason both usually exist, one is for the people who want to fuck around, the other is for people who just want to win and that's it.
@manicbeyond Nope. Casual game mode is for people who want the ranked experience without them having to worry about losing their ranks. Imagine not wanting to play ranked, but the casual game mode isn't the same as ranked and is more like a party mode...
@@tamas8950I think it's meant to highlight that the devs are very willing to explore the fun mechanics that every character can bring to the game as opposed to making one dimensional and easy to balance kits.
The original idea was to swap between the two thumbnails intermitently as a funny bit, turns out people do not like funny bits and wanted my blood, so it will remain for the forseeable future
You love it when you discover a new channel that you share your opinions with and not out to get disappointed with a new game right after it is announced
@@kaankarcan558 She is, as far as I know, Galactus' daughter and according to Fandom: "Galacta first appeared in Marvel Assistant-Sized Spectacular #2 in June 2009, in a story written by Adam Warren." Also there are a lot of people who never knew about her and think it's some sjw genderbent shenanigans when in fact it's just ignorance on their part (Asmongold)
Your take about role queue is fair enough, I give you that. The initial footage looked so chaotic, as a traumatized Overwatch player, I immediately reached the conclusion that lack of role queue is the reason why the game is so unbalanced and crazy looking. And hell, even with role queue Overwatch "2" is a goddamn abomination anyway... but yes, it's a fair point, the game is on alpha, people are going to test stuff, play all the characters they want, etc.. but I hope when the game is close to release (a shame it will take at least 6 months or so), the devs apply role queue and balance the game accordingly. There's many reasons why Overwatch died and the lack of balance and horrendous matchmaking were at the top the list, if this Marvel game somehow mitigates those issues at release, offering a enjoyable 6v6 experience for all kinds of audiences, this game is going to become a popular phenom
Which is awesome, lol Dr. Octopus mechanical arms are way stronger than Spiderman, but he moves around like a pest, so it doesn't matter. I am super curious to see how they are going to design Wolverine, translating his ferocity to a game like this. Overwatch was able to do something similar with Doomfist, this character can hit you really damn hard, maybe Wolverine will be like that, maybe Colossus, etc.. lot of potential for cool stuff
I always had the two thumbnails and thought it would be a funny bit to change between them, turns out people found one of them much less funny than I did
People don't play games like these in a "free flowing" way (that would be great, but sadly it's not the reality), they are going to find loopholes and abuse the system. It's not fun when you face the same exact teams over and over again, no role queue actually incentivizes stagnancy. Most likely this game will have a "free for all" mode, but the main "competitive" modes will feature role queue
we have ptsd because of goats, and trust me, especially if marvel rivals devs are anywhere close to blizzard people will start begging for role queue as soon as they find an equivalent to goats
I find it so nuts that way back any team based hero shooter would have been a Team Fortress 2 killer. Heck, even Overwatch was labeled that at one point. And now, with so much time having passed (and TF2 being in a state of neglect), now they're called Overwatch killers.
This game cherry-picked the best aspect from the best shooters/melee games to create the best possible version of the genre. You can see influence from Overwatch, Paladins, Borderlands 3, PVZ Warefare, etc. They did NOT hold back. Every single character feels as if they could be staring in their own campaign game and i really really like that.
It's awesome, the fact you can swing around with Spiderman, the animations looks similar to the PS4 game in a hero shooter, lol that's crazy, hope the engine is robust enough to allow Spiderman to wall ride sideways (he can already run in straight lines), you can literally reenact the PS4 game, swinging, wall riding, but instead of punching random thugs, you will punch goddamn Magneto
One good way to buff All of the melee brawlers, is giving melee’s a kind of Cc, or minor stun (for spider-man) when they damage on their main attack. This should help the non tanks dodge easier, and hopefully be much more viable, especially team wise as any kind of stun is MASSIVE
I dont think the amount of hero shooters out rn is a problem and the games genre should not be a point against it, but other than that I agree with the rest of the review it talks about everything really accurately and is well made
The Team Up mechanic seems like it will likely cause problems in the future. It significantly limits design space in what they can put into it, and it heavily restricts team comps by forcing certain pairs. Team sizes being 6 does mean you have 5 chances to get your other half, but as the roster expands this will likely get harder and harder to manage. Then there becomes the problem of team up abilities make or breaking characters, if a character is unplayable without it then its completely reliant on someone else picking the other half to even have a chance of seeing play, essentially making character decency dependent on another.
It's tricky, but I think this feature will remain a thing because team ups is one of the most popular comic book gimmicks. Buffs and nerfs all the way, until the character feels fun to play regardless. I think Spiderman is already a positive example, because he functions well by himself (if you are a masochist, in other words, Doomfist players, Genji, Hammond, etc), but he will have team up abilities with Venom, Peni Parker, most likely Spider-Gwen will show up, etc that spices up his "kit" a little bit more, but the character remains a valid pick if there's no other Spider people around (there's also some surprising dynamics, Mantis of all characters, she has good synergy with Spiderman)
I actually prefer 3rd person since i dont get stuck on the corner of a pixel of a potted plant when back pedaling. Because i can see whats directly behind me
The third person aspect is the best part I think of Marvel Rivals, imagine playing Hulk in first person it just wouldn't feel right, there are other characters as well but my main point is I want to see these heroes/villains in third person it just makes sense.
I like how when describing how groot is nearly impossible to kill you described the oak from pvz battle for neighborville, except that one usually has 3 healers strapped to it
Asking for role queue on a game that's in alpha is crazy, the thing didn't even come out yet and some people are already asking for the game to put the players on boxes
I am actually genuinely excited to play this game! I personally like the 3rd Person perspective both because it makes playing flying heroes not only feel better but also look better, and allows team ups be seen by the player. Also you can actually see your favorite heroes and any cosmetics for once, instead of seeing it in a 4 second transition cutscene and then the victory screen if you do win a game (no shade to FPS games I just find 3rd person to be very interesting)!
The "Team Up" mechanic reminds me of a similar mechanic in the mobile shooter "Frag", where if you have two specific characters on your team they perform what's called a "synergy" (iirc). It was completely and utterly busted there but it might not be here in which I'm glad since it's actually a pretty concept for a class-based shooter
