I teach Kindergarten in the south suburbs of Chicago. We had the whole week of thanksgiving off but…..had parent/teacher conferences that Monday and Tuesday. They were all virtual too! I went into the building on Monday and did them from home on Tuesday. Have a Merry Christmas!!
I homeschool my youngest 2 my teen goes to public high school she got a week off...however it start the 15th for her that morning she was hit by a car. Not extremely damaged but not unscathed either... hopefully in the new year she feel better. Going back after Thanksgiving wasn't good. We are now in her 2 week winter break. Homeschool is light until the new year. 8yr old working on reading and 12 yr math.
1st grade teacher here in NJ- we have a half day on Wednesday then off just Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving Break. Oh and we go allll the way to the 23rd before winter break 😅
Hey we also use that phonics program! it is very intricate. My district actually got to talk to Wiley Blevins about the program and how to fully utilize it. Great program! The speed drill is great. We also use a HFW word book that the students work on every day, instead of having them do the different HFW activities that the book lists. I also pre cut the strips for the word and syllable sort to save time. Beginning of the year we were at 45 minutes to an hour and now phonics is getting done in 30 minutes as intended.
Does your district use the fluency check? We do it once a week with 5 to 6 students and its great for tracking growth. On sadlier connect, you can print lessons that go along with the final decodable for each week. I use those lessons in small groups for my higher readers. This program could literally fulfill writing and word work. It's a very well rounded program.
Nursery teacher (kindergarten) in the UK. No thanksgiving here but like you, I use holidays to decompress. Yes, the first morning back can be full on but it always works well in the end. Love watching your videos. x
5th grade teacher in California :) I remember in one of your old videos you did not include “teacher” time in your rotations so you can pull groups whenever. I noticed you have yourself scheduled now. Did it not work out? I’ve been teetering on the idea of trying that out. I love your “day in the life” videos. Being a teacher/mom is not easy. I love seeing how other people do it. Happy holidays!
I am a student teacher in a second grade classroom and I am looking to get some different examples of what teaching can look like outside of what my CT does. Thank you for posting all this!
3rd grade teacher in Louisiana here. We get a whole week off! I have missed your blog videos! I do have a request. Could you do an in depth video of your Reading block and center time? Schedule, what activities you do for teacher’s choice, etc.? I have struggled with this for years and would love to see how you fit it all in! Thank you. Merry Christmas!! 🎄
You are my favorite! Grade 2 teacher from ND here. Currently in my 3rd year teaching. You're energy is contagious and I have enjoyed all of your videos! The honesty, organization, everything is so fantastic! Happy 2023!
I teach grade 8 in CT. We have a half day the day before Thanksgiving, then Thursday and Friday off. For Christmas we half a half day tomorrow (12/23) and we go back on 1/3.
This was so helpful! We just adopted that phonics program and I feel like I don’t utilize it the best way. Thank you so much! Would love more videos like this.
I love the Fix It sentences for a writing/handwriting center. Thanks for the tip! I found it in TPT and plan on using it for the rest of the year in my 2nd grade classroom. I love that she has 3rd grade words for my students who are ready for them!! Thanks again for the tip! ❤❤❤
Hi! I teach in your district and my daughter is a 6th grader at your school 😉 I teach Intervention and I also use that phonics program with my 1st and 2nd graders.
I love your videos! I’m new to 2nd so I’d love to see how you organize your reading or math centers. Also, how you run them, etc in order for them to run smoothly.
I just bought that for myself! I am a literacy specialist and literacy coach and teach small groups all day. I absolutely love that curriculum. I love that it has blending lines Reading writing building sorting. It has everything you need. What is your favorite thing to do to make it multi-sensory?
Please keep these vlogs coming, and show us your teaching content in detail just like in this video cos it helps us teachers a lot. I get a lot of great ideas from you. Thanks so much.
