Here in Mexico these were the top of the line for Chrysler for a number of years till the LH Concorde appeared. These were only available as coupes with the 3 speed auto or 4 speed in 91 and early 92. My dad owned a 93 model with a 2.5 intercooled turbo engine which wasn't available in the US. They were called Phantom down here, which I think is a kick ass name for a sporty coupe... We even had a limited run of these in Mexico with the 2.2 16V Lotus engineered head and a Getrag 5 speed manual. I currently own a 93 car just as my dad did, which I'm restoring to its former glory as a homage to my late dad and his favorite car. These were as far as the K cars could go and overall I think they were very solid vehicles for their time
I had a Turbo coupe in my youth. Later upgraded to a Turbo II intercooled engine from a wrecked Shelby Shadow. But it almost seems like the coupes never existed - they have all virtually disappeared. It's gotten to the point if I mention I owned a Lebaron, people automatically react and say "Oh yeah, the convertible" and they very nearly DON'T believe me when I said I owned a coupe and yes, they made them that way. Mine had the fully digital dash, digital travel computer, digital HVAC, power EVERYTHING and thankfully - cloth seats. I loved it. I honestly should have kept it and just kept improving it. I also did a few modifications like I put the earlier, T-handle automatic shifter in as I preferred that. The junkyards used to have thousands of these cars or their stablemates. They used to practically GIVE parts away.
Yes, I agree 5 speed, and the better looking early dashboard, didn't like the later dash mainly because of the pushbutton light and wiper switches on the top left.
I prefer the 87-89 interior and dash better entirely. The 90-95 looked cheapened and decontented. I'd also get a coupe, I think they were great looking and much rarer. I'd like a GTC coupe with the older interior swapped in. 👍
Great info video. But not once did you mention the name of car? Repeatedly you said J body but never once car name! At 60 yrs old I love em. Wanted to shop for one but NO NAME!
Thank god. They're awful ones. The LeBaron was a cheap knockoff of the turd at the time that was a Ford Thunderbird. You can get an R129 for the same price now, and it's 10X the car.
Nice examples of quite a mediocre car. Btw that front overhang bothers me. It's soooooooooo long. The wheels should be like 20 cm more in the front from desing point of view... 😀
